Model Overview

The Chery Tiggo 7 PLUS New Energy is a C-segment plug-in hybrid SUV under Chery Automobile, serving as the electrified branch of the Tiggo 7 PLUS family. The model was officially launched on 17 March 2023, offering three variants with an official retail price range between RM149,900 and RM166,900. The new SUV is marketed as a "RM150,000-class high-performance hybrid SUV". Subsequently, Chery expanded the line-up on 22 August 2023 with the introduction of the Champion Edition, offering pure electric range options of 42 km, 55 km, and 100 km, further broadening its product portfolio. Its key rivals include segment contenders like the BYD Song Pro DM-i. Serving as the first new energy offering under Chery’s "whole-vehicle lifetime warranty" policy, the Tiggo 7 PLUS New Energy became the industry's first model to offer a lifetime warranty covering both the entire vehicle and the core EV drive components (three-electric system).

Design Language

Exterior-wise, the Tiggo 7 PLUS New Energy retains the overall styling cues of its petrol-powered sibling, with bespoke styling details highlighting its electrified status. Up front, it sports a bold polygonal grille with vertical waterfall chrome slats, accented by dual blue vertical strips on the right side to denote its new energy identity. The lower bumper flanks feature starry dot-matrix chrome inserts that elevate the vehicle's premium appeal. The side profile features a dual waistline and a floating roof, with a black front fender garnish housing a red "T" badge to denote its turbocharged hybrid powertrain. At the rear, the SUV features a full-width LED taillight cluster, complemented by a split-type roof spoiler and a quad-exhaust layout with dual outlets on either side. In terms of dimensions, the SUV measures 4,530 mm in length (4,513 mm in early specifications), 1,862 mm in width, and 1,696 mm in height, with a 2,670 mm wheelbase.

Inside, the cabin is finished in a dual-tone blue and beige colour scheme, distinctive of its electrified character. The dashboard is headlined by a 24.6-inch curved dual screen (combining the digital instrument cluster and infotainment touchscreen), powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor. The cabin is generously wrapped in soft-touch materials, accented by matte finishes and gloss black trims. It also features a flat-bottom D-shaped steering wheel and integrated sporty faux-leather seats offering solid lateral support and long-distance comfort.

Powertrain and Performance

The Tiggo 7 PLUS New Energy is powered by a plug-in hybrid powertrain combining Chery's hybrid-dedicated 1.5-litre turbocharged engine with dual permanent magnet synchronous electric motors. The petrol mill produces 115 kW (approx. 156 PS) and 230 Nm of torque, while the electric motor generates 125 kW and 315 Nm. Total system output is rated at 240 kW (approx. 326 PS) and a peak combined torque of 545 Nm. Power is managed by a dedicated 3-speed DHT hybrid transmission. It completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in 7 seconds flat, does 30-70 km/h mid-gear acceleration in the 3-second range, and achieves a top speed of 180 km/h.

Energy is stored in a 19.27 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, delivering an 80 km pure electric range under the WLTC cycle and a total combined range exceeding 1,000 km. Under WLTC standards, fuel consumption in battery-depleted condition is 5.95 L/100 km, while the combined fuel consumption is rated at 1.76 L/100 km. It supports DC fast charging up to 29 kW, taking just 25 minutes to recharge from 30% to 80%. In addition, the vehicle features a 3.3 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external discharge capability to power domestic appliances up to 3.3 kW. It runs on RON 92 petrol and has a 60-litre fuel tank capacity.

Chassis and Handling

Underpinnings comprise front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link independent suspension setup. The SUV comes in a front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout, with stopping power provided by front ventilated disc brakes. Kerb weight stands at 1,695 kg. Multiple drive modes are available to cater to daily urban commutes and long-distance interstate driving.

Cabin and Features

In terms of cabin tech, the Tiggo 7 PLUS New Energy is Chery's first production model built on the 8155 intelligent ecosystem platform. The 24.6-inch curved dual display runs on the Lion 5.0 OS with an AI emotional interaction system, supporting facial recognition and full-vehicle over-the-air (OTA) updates. Other amenities include a W-HUD head-up display, 50W wireless smartphone charging, a premium SONY audio system, and 64-colour interior ambient lighting. Passenger comfort is enhanced by a near-flat rear floor, while the 60:40 split-folding rear seats allow convenient expansion of boot cargo space.

Safety and Driver Assistance

On the safety front, the Tiggo 7 PLUS New Energy is engineered to global high-standard passive safety standards. For active safety, the SUV comes equipped with up to 18 Level 2.5 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Lane Centring Assist (LCA). Additional driver aids include Rear Collision Warning (RCW) and Door Open Warning (DOW). It is also Chery's first model to incorporate a 540° transparent chassis view (combining a 360° surround-view monitor with a 180° underbody view). The comprehensive ADAS suite and 11 high-precision sensors are standard across the range.

Market Performance and Reception

The rollout of the Tiggo 7 PLUS New Energy has reinforced the Tiggo 7 PLUS product family. In August 2025, the model recorded monthly sales of 377 units. In terms of user reception, owners generally praise its economical running costs in urban pure electric mode and its generous rear cabin space. In real-world driving, fuel consumption in battery-depleted state averages around 5.2 L/100 km. However, some users have noted that the pure electric range remains modest, the infotainment system experiences occasional lag, and low-speed powertrain smoothness could be further refined. When pitted against direct rivals like the BYD Song Pro DM-i, its pure electric range and pricing do not hold a significant advantage. Nonetheless, backed by its 1.5T+3DHT PHEV setup, 240 kW output, 8155-powered smart cockpit, and vehicle lifetime warranty, the Tiggo 7 PLUS New Energy establishes solid differentiated appeal in the RM150,000-class plug-in hybrid SUV segment.
