2026-09-26 21:30:00

Model Overview

The Chery Tansuo 06 is Chery Auto's first "light off-road" C-segment SUV launched in 2023, evolved from the earlier TJ-1 concept car with its Chinese moniker decided via a global crowd-sourced naming initiative. Officially launched on 20 August 2023, the SUV targets a younger, lifestyle-oriented demographic with its "refined urban off-roader" ethos, seamlessly blending daily city commutes with light weekend trail duties.

In September 2024, the 2025 Tansuo 06 Urban Edition was introduced alongside a new entry-level variant priced at RM99,900, adjusting the official retail price range to between RM99,900 and RM139,900. Alongside the petrol model, Chery also rolled out the C-DM plug-in hybrid variant, powered by a 5th-generation 1.5TGDI engine paired with a 3-speed Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT). As of 2026, the on-sale line-up comprises petrol and C-DM hybrid variants spanning from RM99,900 to RM145,900.

Design Language

The Tansuo 06 embraces a "refined urban off-roader" styling theme characterised by a rugged, squared-off profile. The front end sports a bold honeycomb radiator grille flanked by prominent "CHERY" script lettering and sleek split LED headlamps, with slim, assertive LED daytime running lights sitting up top for sharp road presence. In profile, clean, muscular body lines are complemented by flush pop-out door handles and a floating roof, giving it an unmistakable "boxy" SUV stance.

Subtle styling tweaks set the petrol and C-DM hybrid variants apart. The petrol model leans into a rugged, utilitarian aesthetic with chunky vertical rectangular bumper claddings, while the C-DM features a waterfall vertical-slat grille and a more futuristic split headlamp arrangement. Out back, a full-width LED taillight strip and a rugged silver skid plate further accentuate its off-road DNA. Dimension-wise, the 2025 Urban Edition measures 4,500 mm long, 1,865 mm wide, and 1,670 mm tall, with a 2,672 mm wheelbase; opting for the AWD Discovery Edition with dedicated off-road body kits extends dimensions to 4,552 mm × 1,905 mm × 1,789 mm.

Inside, the cabin features an Arctic Black theme centred around a minimalist, tech-driven design. Soft-touch materials are generously applied across key touchpoints, paired with brushed metallic accents and contrast stitching to deliver a premium, tech-forward ambience. Highlights include a fighter-jet-inspired electronic gear shifter, sculpted door card trims, and a 64-colour ambient lighting system.

Powertrain & Performance

The petrol-powered Tansuo 06 line-up is driven by Chery's Kunpeng 1.6TGDI four-cylinder turbo petrol engine (unit code SQRF4J16C), pushing out 145 kW (approx. 197 PS) and 290 Nm of torque, with max pulling power accessible across a broad 2,000–4,000 rpm rev band. The engine integrates direct petrol injection, turbocharging, dual variable valve timing (DVVT), and Chery's iHEC intelligent combustion system for enhanced thermal efficiency. Power is channelled through a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT), enabling a top speed of 190 km/h, though official 0–100 km/h sprint figures remain undisclosed. The powertrain features a transverse front-engine layout with front-wheel drive (FWD) as standard, while AWD variants receive an intelligent on-demand all-wheel drive setup.

On the fuel economy front, the FWD model is rated at 6.98 L/100 km on the WLTC cycle, while the AWD model logs 7.48 L/100 km due to driveline drag and the added weight of the AWD hardware. Fuel tank capacity stands at 51 litres for FWD and 57 litres for AWD models. The engine is tuned for RON 92 petrol and meets the stringent China VI-B emissions standard.

For the electrified option, the Tansuo 06 C-DM features a plug-in hybrid setup combining a 1.5-litre turbo engine with a front-mounted electric motor, delivering a total system output of 265 kW and a fuel consumption of just 4.9 L/100 km in charge-depleting mode (WLTC). Packed with an 18.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, it delivers a pure electric driving range of 120 km under CLTC testing.

Chassis & Handling

Underneath, the Tansuo 06 rides on an all-round independent suspension setup, utilising front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link layout as standard across the range. AWD variants are equipped with BorgWarner's intelligent all-scenario on-demand AWD system featuring an electro-hydraulic multi-plate clutch centre differential, which engages AWD within 0.1 seconds to distribute torque across all four corners, delivering up to 3,000 Nm of wheel-end torque to the rear axle. An integrated Integrated Power Brake (IPB) brake-by-wire system can brake individual spinning wheels to mimic an electronic differential lock, enabling rapid self-recovery on tricky terrain.

Tailored as a lifestyle off-roader, the Tansuo 06 delivers clearance figures that easily surpass conventional urban SUVs: a 21° approach angle, a 29° departure angle (28° or 29° for AWD variants), 200 mm of unladen ground clearance, and a wading depth of 605 mm. Drivers can toggle between 7 drive modes—Eco, Standard, Sport, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Off-road—covering up to 19 driving scenarios. Steering is handled by an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system with selectable Sport and Comfort weighting modes. Stopping power comes from front ventilated discs and rear solid discs, with higher-spec trims upgraded to twin-piston front brake callipers. Underpinning the SUV is a high-rigidity monocoque chassis featuring an energy-absorbing cage safety cell structure.

Cabin & Equipment

The digital cockpit is a standout selling point of the Tansuo 06. Standard across the range are a 10.25-inch full digital instrument cluster and a 13.2-inch portrait central infotainment touchscreen, powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip and supporting 4G connectivity as well as over-the-air (OTA) updates. Running the HMI 5.0 interface, the infotainment system comes with built-in AutoNavi online navigation, intelligent voice control, Apple CarPlay, and Huawei HiCar screen mirroring. Higher-spec grades also add a W-HUD head-up display system projecting essential driving data onto the windscreen.

In terms of creature comforts, the Tansuo 06 comes standard with a four-way tilt-and-telescopic multi-function leather steering wheel, premium synthetic leather upholstery, and dual-angle reclining rear seatbacks. The centre console houses a 50W wireless smartphone charging pad, twin phone slots, and clamping dual cup holders behind the gear selector. Higher-spec variants further gain an 8-speaker SONY premium sound system, heated and ventilated front seats, and a 6-way power-adjustable driver's seat. Other highlights include a 1.1 m² panoramic opening glass roof, 64-colour ambient cabin lighting, automatic climate control, rear air vents, a PM2.5 air filtration system, and Chery's C-PURE green cabin air management system.

Practicality is equally well-addressed, offering 410 to 490 litres of boot space depending on trim. The 60:40 split-folding rear seats fold flat to expand luggage capacity to a cavernous 1,338 to 1,388 litres. A space-saver spare wheel and roadside emergency toolkit are stored under the boot floor.

Safety & ADAS

Safety is engineered into the core of the Tansuo 06. The vehicle was developed to meet global five-star crash test standards across C-NCAP, Euro NCAP, ASEAN NCAP, ANCAP, and Latin NCAP, making it one of the rare crossovers in its segment to target universal five-star compliance. Its monocoque structure features high-strength steel accounting for over 80% of the body-in-white, boasting a torsional rigidity of 23,000 Nm/deg and a roof crush resistance ratio of 5.11 times to deliver class-leading rollover protection. Passive safety covers dual front airbags, front side airbags, and full-length side curtain airbags as standard, with select trims featuring 6-second airbag pressure retention.

On the active safety front, mid-to-high-spec petrol variants are equipped with Level 2 / Level 2.5 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC, 0–150 km/h) handles stop-and-go traffic seamlessly, working alongside Integrated Cruise Assist (ICA) to reduce highway driving fatigue. The active safety suite encompasses 23 driver-assist features, including Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB with pedestrian detection), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Centring Assist (LCA), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Intelligent Evasion System (IES), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), and Curve Speed Assist (CSA). A 540° HD surround-view monitor with a "transparent chassis" function is standard fitment, providing visibility around the car and beneath the floor pan. C-DM variants are fitted with a 360-degree surround-view camera as standard across all trims.

Standard active chassis electronics across the entire range include the Bosch IPB brake-by-wire system, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Traction Control System (TCS).

Market Performance & Reception

The market reception of the Tansuo 06 illustrates a clear case of finding greater success abroad than on home turf. In its domestic market, petrol variants hovered between 1,800 and 4,000 monthly units, closing 2024 with around 25,000 units delivered; the C-DM PHEV variant saw only 2,292 deliveries over the past year, gradually dropping off mainstream sales charts within six months of its rollout. Conversely, export markets told a different story—the Tansuo 06 C-DM recorded 11,125 export units in May 2025 alone, ranking sixth among all exported Chinese passenger vehicles that month.

Owner feedback remains noticeably polarised. Commendations heavily praise its mechanical package—the 1.6T Kunpeng engine delivers eager pick-up off the line and punchy mid-range pull, inspiring confidence during city drives and highway overtaking manoeuvres; having intelligent AWD at a 2WD price point represents outstanding value for money for outdoor enthusiasts. The digital cockpit experience (Snapdragon 8155 chip, 13.2-inch touchscreen, SONY audio) and everyday fuel economy (6.98 L/100 km for 2WD) have also earned widespread praise. Criticisms, however, centre on infotainment software stability, NVH refinement, and occasional build quality complaints—some owners cite screen lag, random freezing, and sluggish boot times in colder weather, alongside noticeable tyre roar and wind noise at higher cruising speeds. On Chinese consumer complaint platforms like 12365auto, isolated cases of timing chain skipping and drivetrain vibrations have also been reported.

As Chery's inaugural light off-road crossover, the Tansuo 06 successfully carved out a distinctive niche between urban crossovers and dedicated 4x4s with its "refined urban off-roader" pitch, delivering an impressive blend of AWD capability, Snapdragon 8155 tech, and ultra-rigid crash safety in the RM100,000-class segment. However, against formidable domestic rivals like the BYD Song Pro DM-i and Geely Galaxy Starship 7, tighter cabin dimensions, modest electric range, and gadget parity remain the key hurdles limiting its overall market share.
