Brand Overview

Bizzarrini is a legendary, ultra-exclusive Italian luxury hypercar brand originating from Italy, founded by former Ferrari and Alfa Romeo engineer Giotto Bizzarrini in Livorno in 1964, initially registered as Prototipi Bizzarrini S.R.L, renamed Bizzarrini S.p.A. in 1966. Founder Giotto Bizzarrini (June 6, 1926 – May 13, 2023) is one of the most outstanding engine engineers in automotive history, who served as Ferrari's Chief Engineer, directly participated in the development of milestone models such as Ferrari 250 GTO, 250 GT SWB "Breadvan", and designed the first V12 engine for Lamborghini.

As an automobile manufacturer, Bizzarrini produced only about 140+ high-performance sports cars during its brief five-year lifespan, but every model carried the founder's track-first, extreme lightweight engineering philosophy. In 1969, the brand ceased operations due to financial issues. In 2020, Pegasus Brands (originally Pegasus Automotive Group), headquartered in London, UK, completed the acquisition of the brand, announcing its revival. The revived Bizzarrini returned to the market with the limited continuation model 5300 GT Corsa Revival, and will launch the first all-new model Giotto designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. In 2026, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founder's birth, the brand launched the Centenario Edition as the finale of the 5300 GT revival series, marking the brand's transition from paying homage to classics to a brand new era.

Development History

Golden Age (1964–1969)

Giotto Bizzarrini graduated from the Engineering Department of the University of Pisa in 1953, then joined Alfa Romeo to work on Giulietta chassis development and served as a test driver. In 1957, he was recruited by Ferrari and quickly promoted to Chief Engineer, in charge of experimental, sports, and GT model development. Representative works include 250 TR Testarossa, 250 GT SWB, and the legendary 1962 model 250 GTO. In 1961, Bizzarrini parted ways with Ferrari due to ideological differences with Enzo Ferrari, became one of the "Five Aristocrats" leaving Ferrari. After briefly participating in the ATS (Automobili Turismo e Sport) project, he established the engineering company Società Autostar in 1962, successively completing the famous commission to build the Ferrari "Breadvan" for Count Volpi, and accepted a commission from Ferruccio Lamborghini to design Lamborghini's first V12 engine.

In 1964, Bizzarrini went independent, the first model 5300 GT (evolution of Iso A3/L) was unveiled, and in 1965 launched the Corsa version focused on racing. That summer, the 5300 GT Corsa won the group championship at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, and completed the race with over 300 laps, an average speed of 170 km/h, recording the fastest speed on the Mulsanne Straight. Inspired by this, Bizzarrini launched the more aggressive open-top speed machine P538 in 1966 – the name originated from Rear engine (Posteriore), 5.3-liter displacement, and 8 cylinders, only 5 units produced. That same year, the brand also manufactured 3 units of 5300 GT Spyder. In 1967, Bizzarrini launched the entry-level sports touring car 1900 GT Europa, equipped with an Opel 2.0-liter engine and lightweight fiberglass body, fewer than 20 units produced. In 1968, the 2+2 layout 5300 GT America was built for the US market. In 1969, the brand went bankrupt due to financial issues, the legend abruptly ended.

Silence and Revival Attempts (1970–2019)

After production ceased, historical models soared in the collector's market. At the 2000 Geneva Motor Show, Bizzarrini showcased the hybrid supercar Kjara, equipped with a Lancia 2.4-liter inline-5 turbo diesel engine and four electric motors, demonstrating technological foresight beyond its era. At the 2005 Geneva Motor Show, the brand launched a new hardtop coupe named GTS again, featuring a 4.4-liter V8 engine, 530 horsepower, and an aluminum-carbon fiber lightweight body. However, these attempts were never put into mass production.

Brand Revival and New Era (2020–Present)

In 2020, Pegasus Brands completed the brand acquisition and decided to restart the brand with the limited continuation model 5300 GT Corsa Revival. In 2023, under the leadership of the founder's son, former Aston Martin and Tesla technical chief Chris Porritt, the brand revealed its first all-new supercar Giotto, designed by Italian design master Giorgetto Giugiaro and his son Fabrizio. On May 13 of that year, Giotto Bizzarrini passed away at the age of 96.

Between 2025 and 2026, the brand welcomed multiple major developments successively: In December 2025, ErreErre Fuoriserie joined Bizzarrini to launch the ForGiotto "Breadvan" modification project, limited to 5 units, paying tribute to the founder's unfinished aerodynamic dreams. In May 2026, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Giotto's birth, the brand launched the 5300 GT Corsa Revival Centenario Edition, as the finale of the 24-unit revival series. The 5300 GT Corsa Revival continuation project was also rated "2024 Best Continuation Car" by Robb Report. The company simultaneously announced it would soon launch its first all-new mass production model.

Brand Matrix / Product Line

Bizzarrini's product matrix can be divided into three major sectors: Historical Classics, Revival Continuations, and All-New Models.

Historical Classics (1964–1968) : The 5300 GT Strada (1964) is the brand's first mass-produced model, equipped with a front-mid mounted Chevrolet 327 V8 engine, power 365 horsepower, top speed 174 mph, only about 133 units produced in the 1950s. The 5300 GT Corsa (1965) was pure track specification, power over 400 horsepower, weight 1.25 tons, won 1965 Le Mans Group Championship. The P538 (1966) was a rear-engine open-top race car, only 5 units produced. The 5300 GT Spyder (1966) was the open-top version, only 3 units produced. The 1900 GT Europa (1967) was an entry-level sports tourer, production fewer than 20 units. The Bizzarrini Manta concept car (1968) was a three-seater wide-body sports car with central driving position, equipped with a Chevrolet 5.4-liter V8 engine. The 5300 GT America 2+2 (1968) was a four-seater luxury GT to satisfy the US market.

Revival Continuation (2021–2026) : 5300 GT Corsa Revival limited production 24 units. Equipped with 5.3-liter V8 (400 hp), matched with BorgWarner T-10 four-speed manual transmission, uses steel chassis and monocoque composite body, strictly complying with FIA Appendix K certification standards, eligible to participate in historic racing events. Won the Robb Report "Best Continuation Car" award in 2024. The Centenario Edition is the 25th ultimate commemorative version, featuring a dark black monocoque composite body and gold wheels, paired with a large "100" racing roundel, serving as the perfect finale of the 5300 GT series.

All-New Models (Planned) : Giotto (debuts in 2023) named after the founder, equipped with naturally aspirated V12 engine and 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, uses carbon fiber monocoque body, co-developed by Chris Porritt and the Giugiaro father-son team. ForGiotto (delivery in August 2026) belongs to the ErreErre Fuoriserie joint development project, uses hand-hammered aluminum body, paying homage to the "Breadvan" aerodynamic shape, limited 5 units, price 690,000 EUR, offering 300 to over 400 horsepower options.

Market Performance

Bizzarrini is positioned as an ultra-rare and customized ultimate collectible category, not adopting a mass sales model.

Original Historical Models: The original 5300 GT models produced only about 133 units between 1965 and 1968, now less than half remain. In 2022, a 1968 5300 GT Strada auction price exceeded 7.2 million RMB, proving its collectible value.

Revival Series Market Performance: The 5300 GT Corsa Revival continuation model pricing is approximately 1.65 million GBP (nearly 15 million RMB). After the Centenario Edition, the 25th revival car, completed delivery, this series has gained extremely high attention and order conversion in the global ultra-luxury collector circle, and was awarded "Best Continuation Car" by authoritative luxury media Robb Report. In May 2026, CEO Isobel Dando confirmed at the Centenario Edition launch that all revival series have been completed, all orders delivered.

Financial and Operational Status: According to Tracxn's 2023 assessment, Bizzarrini was in a non-funded state at the time, supported by Pegasus Group's own capital for early operations. After revival startup, the brand did not publicly disclose funding status, but its global marketing plan and Giotto model R&D progress indicate the company has obtained sufficient capital support.

Core Technology

Bizzarrini's technology philosophy can be summarized in three sentences: Front-Mid Engine layout, Ultimate Lightweighting, and Uncompromising Track Orientation.

Front-Mid Engine (Front-Mid Engine) is the most significant core engineering identifier of this brand. Giotto Bizzarrini innovatively moved the engine behind the front axle as early as the Ferrari 250 GTO era, this concept was carried over to the 5300 GT, placing the Chevrolet 327 V8 distributor almost flush against the driver's cabin firewall, bringing near perfect 50:50 front-rear weight distribution. This layout is still considered the golden scheme for front-engine GT models.

Lightweighting and Materials Engineering is another cornerstone for the brand's pursuit of track limits. The original 1960s 5300 GT used Carrozzeria Bertone hand-built aluminum bodies, some versions were lightweight fiberglass; the revival 5300 GT Corsa Revival uses a combination of monocoque composite body and steel chassis, controlling weight at 1.25 tons, power-to-weight ratio comparable to modern supercars. ForGiotto and Manta concept cars both adopted the ultimate racing tubular structure body concept.

Core Adaptation of V8 Powertrain demonstrates the essence of Italian-American integration. Giotto Bizzarrini, against the tradition of high-revving V12 by Italian peers, chose the Chevrolet lightweight small-block V8, while ensuring reliability and sufficient torque, through Weber 45 DCOE carburetor and dry sump tuning, precisely releasing 365 to over 400 horsepower to the road. The revival 5300 GT Corsa Revival is also equipped with 5.3-liter V8 and four-speed manual transmission, maintaining a pure, classic mechanical experience.

Track Racing Technology runs through the entire model line. Corsa and revival models both obtained FIA Appendix K certification, standard equipment includes six-point roll cage, racing safety fuel tank, etc., no modification needed to participate in historic racing events. P538 and Manta concept cars demonstrated Giotto's forward-thinking concepts on rear-engine layout and central driving position, still regarded by the collector community as automotive art masterpieces.

Overseas Layout

Bizzarrini's global operation is essentially a structure of "Italian Heritage, British Capital, Global Market".

Production and Engineering Core: Since the 2020 revival, the brand headquarters' commercial and capital operation subject is located in London, UK (Pegasus Brands), but the manufacturing of historical and continuation models, R&D, and collaboration with Italian design studios still rely on Italian local craft resources. The manufacturing and assembly of 5300 GT Corsa Revival and Centenario Edition are handcrafted by British local craftsmen with deep historic racing experience. The brand new Giotto supercar is advancing R&D and testing with engineering teams at the GFG Style design center in Turin, Italy.

Global Sales and Collector Market: Bizzarrini's customer base is spread globally, especially concentrated in the top-tier car collector circles of North America, Europe, and the Middle East. The brand participated in international luxury and classic car events, such as the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in the US, Italian FuoriConcorso, etc. The Centenario Edition completed its global premiere at FuoriConcorso on Lake Como, Italy, on May 16-17, 2026, and after official launch, directly faces global high-end customers.

Future Outlook

Bizzarrini has formulated a clear roadmap for the brand's "de-revival" and complete contemporary development.

Launch and Product Expansion of All-New Model Giotto is the current top priority. After the 2026 Centenario Edition launch, CEO Isobel Dando clearly stated that the company will next focus on the continuous development and global sales of the Giotto supercar. The Giotto mass production version is expected to adopt carbon fiber monocoque body, V12 naturally aspirated engine, and high-performance transmission system, positioned as a limited-production flagship supercar, taking a place in the high-end custom car market along with the newborn Bizzarrini brand.

Brand Heritage Asset Management and Classic Car Certification System is the mid-term strategic support. The company has announced the launch of an official Bizzarrini registration certification system, focusing on the authentication, restoration, and protection of historical original Bizzarrini models. This will greatly enhance the transaction transparency and brand value of classic cars, and provide authoritative after-sales service and technical support for global collectors.

Commemoration and Legacy Plan will run through the brand's long-term narrative. Giotto's centenary birthday (1926–2026) has been successfully crafted as the climax of the revival series, and its engineering legacy will also continuously spread influence through external customization projects such as ForGiotto.

Strategic Positioning for Transition to a New Era: Chief Marketing Officer Simon Busby stated, Centenario Edition is a work paying homage to the past, bridging the past and future – the spirit of 5300 GT has been solemnly preserved and completed collection loop, while Giotto will serve as the unveiler of the next chapter, ushering in Bizzarrini's first true contemporary mass-production supercar. With the continuous pursuit of highly scarce brands in the collector market and Pegasus Group's capital support, Bizzarrini is steadily transitioning from a myth existing only in archives and track memories to a new identity as an independent ultra-luxury custom brand.
