Model Overview

The BMW iX2 is an all-electric compact coupe SUV from the German BMW Group, sitting under the BMW X2 family. The vehicle made its global debut at the Tokyo Motor Show in October 2023, launched alongside the all-new generation BMW X2 (U10). As the fully electric variant of the X2, the iX2 is built on BMW's FAAR front-wheel-drive platform, sharing extensive technical hardware with the iX1, and is positioned as a compact Sports Activity Coupe (SAC). The new model is produced at the BMW Group Regensburg plant in Germany, sharing the assembly line with the BMW X1. As of June 2026, the iX2 has been launched across several markets, including South Korea, Australia, Malaysia, and Taiwan, China, but has yet to officially debut in the Chinese mainland market. In the Taiwan market, the 2026 iX2 xDrive30 M Sport is priced at NT$2,420,000; in Australia, the 2026 iX2 eDrive20 M Sport starts from AUD 84,700.
Design Language
In terms of exterior styling, the iX2 largely retains the design cues of the ICE-powered X2, while highlighting its pure EV credentials through bespoke detail revisions. The front end sports BMW's signature hexagonal kidney grille, now blanked-off and finished with diamond-pattern mesh accents or a gradient silver-black treatment. The kidney grille can also be optioned with the BMW Iconic Glow illuminated contour lighting, further boosting its night-time visual presence. The LED headlamp clusters feature twin-arrow daytime running lights (DRLs) for a sharp, aggressive gaze. The side profile remains the iX2's most distinctive angle—its sloping coupe-SUV roofline is paired with new-generation flush-fitting door handles, contributing to an aerodynamic drag coefficient of just 0.25 Cd. Blue brake calipers and 19-inch M double-spoke alloy wheels further accentuate its athletic stance. In terms of dimensions, it measures 4,554 mm in length, 1,845 mm in width, and 1,560 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,692 mm. The rear is fitted with smoked C-shaped LED tail lights, paired with a black tailgate spoiler and a rear bumper diffuser panel to deliver a decidedly sporty aesthetic.
Inside, the iX2 adopts BMW's latest family cabin architecture. The centerpiece of the cockpit is the one-piece BMW Curved Display, integrating a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster and a 10.7-inch central touchscreen infotainment display. The system runs on BMW Operating System 9 (iDrive 9), offering expanded third-party app integration and extensive personalisation features. The floating centre console features a tiered layout, equipped with a minimalist toggle-style electronic gear selector and a wireless smartphone charging pad. Seats are upholstered in breathable Veganza synthetic leather, featuring front sports seats with driver-side memory function. Cabin trim finishers are available in various options, including M light aluminium hexacube.
Powertrain and Performance
The iX2 is offered in two powertrain variants, both underpinned by BMW's fifth-generation eDrive technology.
iX2 eDrive20 (entry-level RWD): Powered by a front-mounted single motor producing a maximum output of 150 kW (204 PS) and a peak torque of 250 Nm (also cited as 247 Nm in select reports). It completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.6 seconds, with a top speed of 170 km/h. The WLTP-rated pure electric range is rated at 439-478 km.
iX2 xDrive30 (high-performance AWD): Features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive layout with a total system output of 230 kW (313 PS) and 494 Nm of torque. With the Sport Boost function engaged, the 0-100 km/h sprint is dispatched in just 5.6 seconds, reaching a top speed of 180 km/h. Its WLTP electric range is rated between 417 and 449 km.
Energy is stored in a 64.8 kWh usable (66.5 kWh gross) ternary lithium-ion battery pack across the range. For charging, it supports DC fast charging at up to 130 kW, replenishing the battery from 10% to 80% state of charge (SoC) in just 29 minutes. A quick 10-minute top-up adds roughly 120 to 155 km of driving range.
Chassis and Handling
Underneath, the iX2 features a front aluminium single-joint spring strut (MacPherson strut) and a rear multi-link independent suspension setup. The xDrive30 variant comes standard with Adaptive M Suspension and the xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system. Steering duties are handled by a rack-and-pinion electric power steering (EPS) system. For driving dynamics, the iX2 offers up to six My Modes settings: Personal, Sport, Efficient, Expressive, Relax, and Digital Art. The M multi-function leather steering wheel also features a Boost paddle for instant sprint performance on demand. It rides on 245/45 R19 tyres.
Cabin and Equipment
In terms of infotainment and connectivity, the iX2 gets BMW Operating System 9 as standard across the range, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. The vehicle also comes standard with BMW Digital Key Plus, allowing keyless entry and start via compatible iOS and Android devices. Higher-spec variants receive a 12-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system. On the comfort front, a panoramic glass roof, dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting package, and a powered tailgate are standard fare. Boot capacity is rated at 525 litres, expandable up to 1,400 litres with the 40:20:40 split-folding rear seats laid flat.
Safety and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
On the safety front, the iX2 comes equipped with 6 airbags as standard (up to 7 airbags in select markets). Active safety systems include Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB). Driver assistance features include full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), active Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), and Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR). For parking, it comes standard with front and rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, a 360-degree surround-view camera (with collision video recording), and automated Parking Assistant. A head-up display (HUD) is standard across the range.
Market Performance and Industry Reception
The iX2 has demonstrated strong sales traction in various global markets. In Malaysia, the iX2 stands as the best-selling all-electric model for the BMW Group, recording over 460 deliveries in 2025. In Europe, the iX2 accounts for 7.5% of BMW's total EV sales volume. However, the model has yet to be officially introduced to the Chinese mainland, where potential rivals include the smart #3, Mercedes-Benz EQA/EQB, and Audi Q4 e-tron. Market analysts anticipate that if introduced locally, its pricing would sit around the RM300,000 bracket. Industry reviews highlight that with its sleek coupe-SUV silhouette, fifth-gen eDrive electric powertrain, and iDrive 9 intelligent cabin, the iX2 successfully carves out a distinct niche in the premium compact electric SUV segment. Overall, serving as the pure-electric flagship of the BMW X2 family, the BMW iX2 combines a dynamic fastback profile, 5.6-second century sprint performance, and a range of up to 449 km, offering drivers seeking bespoke styling and electrified driving dynamics a compelling compact EV that seamlessly blends athletic appeal with everyday practicality.
