Aaron Kwok (Actor/Racing Driver)

2026-09-27 07:30:00

Aaron Kwok is a standout figure in the Hong Kong entertainment scene with serious motorsport credentials, continuing to race actively at a high level to this day. Unlike many celebrity drivers who treat racing merely as a hobby, Kwok's motorsport career spans single-seaters, touring cars, GT machinery, and LMP3 prototypes. In recent years, he has continued to raise the bar with fresh personal milestones in national-level professional championships.

Early Foundations in Formula Racing

Kwok's foray into motorsport dates back to 1997 when he first stepped into Formula racing. In 2001, driving for the FRD Racing Team, he headed to Monza, Italy, to contest the China Formula Renault Championship and clinched the title—a breakthrough achievement for a Chinese artiste at the time. In 2009, he competed in the Asian Formula Renault (AFR) Championship, further solidifying his credentials in single-seater racing.

Racing Driven by Charity

A defining hallmark of Kwok's racing career is how his track outings are closely tied to charitable fundraising. Having established his own charity foundation in 2000, racing has served as a key platform for him to fulfil his philanthropic pledges over the years. He has explicitly channelled all his racing sponsorship funds into his foundation to support those in need. This "racing for charity" philosophy sets him apart from drivers who purely chase lap times or podiums, explaining why he remains deeply committed to motorsport even at the height of his entertainment career.

Ongoing Breakthroughs on the Touring Car Circuit

Since 2023, Kwok has been actively competing in the CTCC (China Touring Car Championship) as a guest driver for Lynk & Co. At the 2024 season finale in Zhuzhou, he scored a career highlight: qualifying 8th overall, fighting his way up the order in Race 1, and pulling off a crucial final-lap overtake to finish 3rd in the TCR China Challenge. This marked his maiden podium finish in a national-level professional championship. At the same time, his tactical defensive driving helped Lynk & Co Teamwork Motorsport seal the overall Team Championship.

For the 2026 season, the 61-year-old Kwok returned for the CTCC Ningbo round. He arrived at the circuit days in advance for intensive testing and began mastering the demanding technique of left-foot braking. Although an incident forced his retirement in Race 2, he delivered a steady drive in Race 1 to take 9th in the Rookie Challenge Cup, clocking a personal best lap time of 1:56.397—a clear step forward in pace.

A Diverse Motorsport Portfolio

Kwok's racing footprint extends well beyond touring cars. In 2025, driving for H-STAR Racing, he entered the Lotus Cup China one-make series in Chengdu alongside eight-time Macau Grand Prix winner Paul Poon, bagging the Masters Class win in Race 1. On top of that, he has also ventured into LMP3 prototypes and founded his own outfit, FS Sports, in 2017 to contest the FRD LMP3 Series.

Paddock Reputation and Standing

Among celebrity crossover drivers in the CTCC paddock, Kwok is widely respected as a racer who is "not just making up the numbers". From coordinating team schedules six months in advance and dedicating all his downtime to race preparation, to actively picking up new driving techniques to shave off tenths of a second, his dedication reflects that of a seasoned professional. Partnering with veteran driver Paul Poon, who brings nearly three decades of racecraft experience, has also provided Kwok with vital technical backing during his transition into TCR machinery.

Spanning nearly thirty years, Kwok's racing journey across Formula cars, touring cars, and GTs boasts an authentic and verifiable competitive track record. While best known to the public as an iconic singer and actor, his regular race participation, open-minded approach to driving technique, and charity-driven mission have firmly established him as a uniquely dedicated and enduring figure in Chinese celebrity motorsport culture.
