September 2026 Hong Kong Car Sales: BYD tops the charts, Dongfeng enters top three on Vigo sales

Hong Kong's latest new car registration figures have been released, with the BYD Atto 2 taking the top spot in September with 292 registrations, according to Transport Department data. The Dongfeng Vigo came second with 138 registrations, followed by the iCAUR V23 in third with 101.

Top 15 models by new car registrations:

BYD also retained its lead in the brand rankings despite a sizeable drop in registrations, recording 356 units for the month.

Toyota finished second with 182 registrations, a slight increase from August, while Dongfeng took third place with 142, up 61.4% month on month. Almost all of Dongfeng's registrations came from a single model, the Vigo.

Top 15 brands by new car registrations:

Overall, Hong Kong recorded 2,027 new car registrations in September, down 15.7% from the previous month. Most of the models and brands in the top 10 are familiar names, with month-to-month fluctuations potentially influenced by vehicle shipment schedules rather than major changes in buyer preferences.

Electric vehicles continue to dominate Hong Kong's new car market, as reflected in the latest rankings.

The MPV segment remains an exception, with hybrid models from established Japanese brands continuing to hold their own.

Their longstanding reputation is one reason, but the wider variety of Japanese MPVs also plays a part, with models catering to a broader range of needs and market segments.
