July 2026 Hong Kong Car Sales: BYD Sealion 7 tops monthly registration rankings

According to Transport Department figures, the BYD Sealion 7 took the top spot in Hong Kong's new car registration rankings for July, with 244 units registered, edging out the iCAUR V23 on 236 units. The BYD Atto 3 rounded out the top three with 226 units.

Here are the top 10 best-selling models by new registrations in July:

On the brand rankings, BYD remained in first place, with iCAUR and Wuling taking second and third respectively.

The rankings also show some big month-on-month changes. The BYD Atto 3 registered 226 units, while the Zeekr 7X climbed to fifth with 178 units, a 536% increase from the previous month.

Meanwhile, some models that have traditionally been popular in Hong Kong have slipped out of the top 10. Tesla is one example, with only the Model Y L making the list, ranking sixth with 98 registrations.

Delivery schedules can have a noticeable impact on monthly registration figures, but the wider trend is hard to ignore.

Several months after the end of the One-for-One Replacement Scheme, and with the Transport Department's registration backlog largely cleared, Chinese brands such as BYD and Zeekr continue to feature prominently in the rankings.

Their continued presence suggests that Chinese-made cars are gaining a much stronger foothold in Hong Kong's new car market.

One other model worth watching is the GAC E9 PHEV, which finished seventh in the rankings. As an MPV, it already has a strong practicality angle, but its plug-in hybrid setup is another major selling point, giving owners the option to charge at home or simply refuel when needed.

Since the One-for-One Replacement Scheme ended, more brands have started bringing HEV, PHEV and REEV models to Hong Kong. With fuel prices still high, these models offer buyers another way to move towards electrification without going fully electric.

More carmakers and distributors are likely to join the growing hybrid market in the months ahead.
