Much of the 911 Challenge is shared with the road-going 911 GT3, including its aerodynamic package and seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. Porsche has also fitted the multifunction steering wheel from the 911 GT3 RS, along with air conditioning.
The electronic systems can be adjusted to suit the driver, with settings for ABS, traction control and ESC, while Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+) offers further adjustment.
The engine is the naturally aspirated 4.0-litre flat-six from the 911 GT3, producing 508hp (379kW) at 8,500rpm and revving to 9,000rpm.
The suspension uses competition-spec dampers and three-way adjustable anti-roll bars, with 18-inch wheels and slick tyres. Braking comes from 380mm steel discs front and rear.
The 911 Challenge retains the same dimensions as the 911 GT3, but there is little left inside from the road car. Sound insulation, carpeting and most of the interior trim have been removed, while a welded roll cage has been fitted.
The standard equipment list includes an integrated three-point air-jack system, FIA rain light, quick-release bonnet latches and a four-way adjustable rear wing.
There is also a 110-litre FIA FT3 fuel tank, six-point harness, racing bucket seat and fire-extinguishing system.
As with Porsche's other customer race cars, the 911 Challenge is for track use only and cannot be registered for road use.
The 911 Challenge replaces the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport and will be eligible for four Porsche one-make series, including the newly announced Porsche Sprint Trophy.
Pricing starts at US$275,000 in North America, including shipping and import duties, while European buyers will pay €208,800 before VAT.
