600km Range! All-Electric Volkswagen ID. Tiguan SUV Set for Global Debut in October, ID.4 and ID.5 to Be Discontinued

[BitAuto News] Volkswagen's all-new all-electric SUV, the ID. Tiguan, is scheduled to make its global debut in October, ahead of an official market launch in early 2027. Replacing the existing ID.4 and ID.5 models, the newcomer will be sold alongside the petrol and hybrid Tiguan variants, signalling a further shift in Volkswagen's EV naming strategy to align with its heritage nameplates.

Following the ID. Polo and ID. Cross, the ID. Tiguan is Volkswagen's third electric model to adopt the "classic model name + ID. prefix" naming strategy. Volkswagen stated that leveraging the well-established Tiguan badge aims to offer consumers distinct product positioning, noting that as one of the world's best-selling SUVs, the Tiguan is a powerhouse brand in its own right.

Notably, the ID. Tiguan will not entirely replace the ICE Tiguan; instead, it will be sold alongside petrol and hybrid variants to cater to diverse powertrain preferences. This dual-track sales strategy has precedent within the Volkswagen Group, such as the co-existence of the Golf and ID.3.

According to specifications published on Volkswagen Norway's official website, the ID. Tiguan will be available in three powertrain configurations. The entry-level Pure variant features a rear-wheel-drive layout producing a maximum power of 140kW and peak torque of 350Nm, delivering a WLTP range of up to 450km, a 0-100km/h sprint in 8.5 seconds, and a top speed of 160km/h.

The mid-spec Pro variant is likewise rear-wheel drive, with output boosted to 210kW and 545Nm, extending the driving range to up to 600km, completing the 0-100km/h acceleration in 6.6 seconds, and reaching a top speed of 180km/h. The flagship Pro 4MOTION variant features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system with a combined output of 220kW (134Nm on the front axle and 350Nm on the rear axle), offering a range of up to 560km, a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 6.3 seconds, and a top speed of 180km/h.

Built on an upgraded MEB+ platform, the ID. Tiguan incorporates Volkswagen's latest APP550 and AKA electric drive technologies. On the battery front, the entry-level Pure is expected to pack a 58kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, while the Pro and Pro 4MOTION variants will be equipped with a 77kWh ternary lithium battery pack. Although the battery capacity remains largely identical to that of the current ID.4, the driving range has been notably improved courtesy of refined aerodynamics and greater drivetrain efficiency.

Regarding exterior and interior design, Volkswagen stated that the ID. Tiguan will be more sophisticated than the current ID.4. The vehicle is currently undergoing camouflaged road testing, with comprehensive design details set to be officially unveiled at its October debut.

On the production front, the ID. Tiguan will be manufactured at Volkswagen's Emden plant in Germany, while the Zwickau facility currently producing the ID.4 will progressively transition to other models. The new EV will celebrate its global debut this October, followed by an official market launch and customer deliveries in early 2027.
