BYD Unveils All-New Dolphin G DM-i | Targeting Europe, Highlighting Ultra-Long Range

BYD has officially launched the new Euro-spec Dolphin G DM-i. This new hatchback, similar in size to the Volkswagen Polo, is the brand's smallest plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) model currently available in the European and UK markets. It is also BYD's first strategic new car fully tailored to the driving habits and needs of overseas consumers.

The new car is positioned as a B-segment compact hatchback with a body length of only 4,160 mm, sharing the same platform as the pure electric Dolphin Surf. Upon launch, it will directly compete with classic European small cars, including perennial best-sellers like the Renault Clio, Volkswagen Polo, and Toyota Yaris.

While competitors generally adopt mainstream configurations of mild hybrids or full hybrids, the Dolphin G DM-i features a rare full plug-in hybrid system in its class. Relying on a pure electric driving experience and excellent fuel economy, it establishes a distinct competitive advantage and reshapes the existing landscape of the niche market.

Although BYD has not yet disclosed detailed parameters for this Super Hybrid architecture, industry senior engineers analyze that this powertrain will share core technology with the all-new Atto 2 DM-i compact SUV. The new car is expected to be equipped with a 1.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine; during daily driving, the engine mainly generates electricity rather than directly driving the wheels, with the electric motor independently propelling the front wheels.

This "electricity-first" hybrid setting ensures smooth power and a quiet cabin during vehicle start-up, city slow driving, and stop-and-go traffic. According to official data, under the synergy of oil and electricity, the Dolphin G DM-i boasts a combined range of up to 999 kilometers, delivering impressive range performance.
