On September 18, Waymo, an autonomous driving company under Alphabet, announced plans to launch paid Robotaxi mobility services in Singapore in 2028. Earlier this week, it also stated its target to achieve commercial operations in Tokyo, Japan next year. Waymo plans to establish its Singapore local business over the coming months and complete the deployment of the initial Jaguar I-PACE fleet; it will launch localized training based on human driving in 2027 and provide ride-hailing services to the public via first-party apps in 2028.

Waymo Co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana stated that Singapore has built one of the world's safest, most efficient, and most forward-looking transportation ecosystems. Its focus on reliability, sustainability, and people-centric progress directly reflects Waymo's approach to building technology and services. Waymo is committed to listening to the community, creating high-skilled local operational jobs, and working with Singapore's national leaders to improve its world-class public transportation network. The company expressed its honor in cooperating with the Singapore Ministry of Transport and Land Transport Authority to bring its proven commercial safety record to the Lion City.
