Zhuhai International Circuit (Zhuhai International Circuit, ZIC)
Definition and Historical Significance
Zhuhai International Circuit is located in Tangjiawan Town, Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province. Founded in 1993, it officially opened for use in November 1996. It is the first permanent international racing circuit in China. The track was designed by Australian Kinhill Engineering Company (which also participated in the Adelaide F1 track design) as the main design consultant, and was upgraded and reconstructed in 1999 by renowned F1 track designer Hermann Tilke. ZIC obtained dual certification from the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). For many years, it has been hailed as the "cradle" and "Whampoa Military Academy" of Chinese motorsport.
Track Layout and Core Features
The track is 4.3 kilometers long, runs clockwise, and features 14 turns in total, including 4 left-handed turns and 10 right-handed turns. The track has two straight sections, measuring 900 meters and 500 meters respectively. The speed at the end of the main straight can exceed 300 kilometers per hour. The track width is 12 meters, with the pit straight outside width at 14 meters.ZIC's corner design is known for high speeds and rich overtaking opportunities. Turn 1 is the point of highest speed entry on the entire track. Turn 4 is a high-difficulty high-speed left-hander with overtaking conditions. Turns 9 and 10 are consecutive left-handers with very short straights after the exit, making them high-risk areas for driver errors. Turn 14 is the fastest corner before returning to the main grandstand.
History and Event Functions
ZIC's history dates back to 1993, and it consecutively hosted city street races for three years starting that year, opening the prelude to circuit racing in China. In November 1996, immediately after completion, ZIC hosted the BPR Global GT Series, marking the first international event held on an F1-standard track in Chinese history.Subsequently, ZIC hosted international events such as the FIA GT Championship, A1 World Cup, and Le Mans Cup Zhuhai 6 Hours. In the 2026 season, ZIC continues to host the Zhuhai round of the Xiaomi China GT Championship (China GT). 52 supercars participated, and Wang Yibei represented UNO Racing Team in the GT3 AM+ class and secured second place. In the same August, the Xiaomi China Endurance Championship (CEC) Zhuhai round GT Cup 4-hour endurance race was also held there.
