Model Overview

The XPENG X9 is the first mid-to-large MPV from XPENG Motors, built on the SEPA 2.0 architecture. The initial all-electric variants debuted in January 2024, followed by the Super Range-Extender version in November 2025 and the annual facelifted EV variant in March 2026. As of May 2026, the 2026 XPENG X9 is priced between RM309,800 and RM369,800. Dimension-wise, the 2026 model measures 5,316 mm in length, 1,988 mm in width, and 1,785 mm in height with a 3,160 mm wheelbase, featuring a seven-seater layout with 60:40 power fold-flat third-row seats. Serving as XPENG's flagship debut in the MPV segment, the XPENG X9 leverages cutting-edge technology to carve out a distinctive competitive edge in its class.

Design Language

The XPENG X9 carries forward XPENG's signature family design language, characterised by angular, sharp, and futuristic contours that owners affectionately refer to as "Starship styling". The flanks feature dual powered sliding doors, with dedicated rear badging to distinguish between variants. Inside, the X9 is available in three interior colourways: Air Grey, Deep Space Grey, and Moon Shadow Brown. In terms of materials and craftsmanship, the cabin has seen continuous refinements since the 2025 update, adding 3.2 m² of soft-touch upholstery to bring the total wrapped surface area to 26.6 m², alongside PVD vacuum-coated switches and trim panels, as well as chrome-free tanned premium leather upholstery that elevates both tactile and visual luxury. Geared towards family comfort, the XPENG X9 seamlessly transitions from a tech-forward exterior to a warm, refined cabin purpose-built for household motoring.

Powertrain & Performance

The XPENG X9 is offered with two powertrain options—all-electric (BEV) and Super Range-Extender (EREV)—both engineered on a full-domain 800V high-voltage Silicon Carbide (SiC) platform. The all-electric version is available in 2WD and 4WD configurations, where the 2WD variant is powered by a rear-mounted single motor rated at 235 kW, while the 4WD variant features dual front and rear motors delivering a combined 370 kW and 640 Nm of torque. In terms of range, the pure EV variant delivers a maximum CLTC-rated range of up to 750 km. The Super Range-Extender version packs the "Kunpeng Super Range-Extender" powertrain, combining a 1.5T range extender (110 kW) with a rear electric motor (210 kW / 465 Nm) to accomplish the 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.0 seconds. The EREV model pairs a 63.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack with a 60-litre fuel tank, providing a CLTC pure electric range of 452 km and an overall combined range of 1,602 km. For charging, the X9 supports 5C ultra-fast DC charging with a peak output of 350 kW, juicing up from 10% to 80% in just 11.7 minutes, or replenishing 313 km of range within a 10-minute charge. The dual-powertrain strategy effectively meets the rapid-charging demands of pure EV motorists and the zero-range-anxiety needs of long-distance travellers.

Chassis & Handling

Underneath, the XPENG X9 adopts front double-wishbone and rear multi-link independent suspension systems, with smart dual-chamber air suspension fitted as standard across the range. The system actively adjusts damping and stiffness in real time based on body roll, vehicle attitude, and road surface conditions, enhancing ride plushness without compromising stability. The 2026 EV model incorporates six Taiji hydraulic bushings into the suspension, working in tandem with a 6D anti-motion sickness algorithm to form the "Taiji AI Chassis". Drivers can toggle between several driving modes including Standard, Comfort, and Sport; Standard mode provides balanced damping, Sport mode stiffens the suspension to curb cornering body roll, and Comfort mode softens the ride to soak up road imperfections. Additionally, active rear-wheel steering comes as standard, substantially reducing the turning circle of this full-size MPV for effortless urban manoeuvrability.

Cabin & Features

The XPENG X9 runs on the XOS Tianji smart cockpit system powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chipset, delivering a 50% quicker app response time and 35% smoother system operation over the preceding generation. The dashboard houses a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a 17.3-inch 3K floating central touchscreen, and a 21.4-inch 3K TÜV Rheinland low-blue-light roof-mounted rear entertainment display. Audio duties are handled by an Xopera 23-speaker sound system, upgraded to 27 speakers on selected trims, complemented by six-zone smart voice control and five-zone automatic climate control. Seating appointments feature chrome-free leather across the first two rows, with standard seat ventilation, heating, and 10-point massage (with an optional 16-point setup), while the second-row zero-gravity captain chairs incorporate an aisle walkthrough layout. Practical amenities include an on-board refrigerator with an ultra-wide temperature range (-5°C to 50°C), the X Free breath microclimate fresh air purification system, and integrated fold-out tray tables. From the rear ceiling screen to massaging captain chairs, coolbox, and tray tables, the cabin is thoughtfully appointed as a mobile living space for family travel.

Safety & Intelligent Driving

The XPENG X9 comes equipped with the XNGP full-scenario advanced driver assistance system (ADAS), underpinned by a suite of 29 perception sensors, including two 126-line forward-facing LiDAR units, three millimetre-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 11 exterior cameras. The computing architecture is driven by dual NVIDIA Orin-X processors, yielding a total computing power of 508 TOPS. Driven by the XNet deep visual neural network, XNGP seamlessly navigates complex scenarios such as autonomous overtaking, lane changes, ramp cornering, and dynamic speed limit adherence. Notably, the XPENG X9 is China's first MPV to achieve certified assisted driving capabilities under adverse weather conditions, proving its robust perception and decision-making performance in inclement climates. Furthermore, the range-extender version employs a vision-only autonomous driving suite, distinguished by an exterior rear blue ADAS status lamp and a capacitive touch steering wheel.

Market Performance & Reception

Since its market introduction, the XPENG X9 has delivered standout sales in the premium family MPV segment thanks to its tech-centric positioning. In December 2025, monthly deliveries of the XPENG X9 reached 5,424 units, marking a 289.1% year-on-year surge and setting an all-time monthly delivery record for the model. In the private retail space, individual customer deliveries of the Super Range-Extender variant accounted for nearly 80%, outperforming segment rivals by around 35 percentage points; it not only secured the top spot in premium MPV retail deliveries, but also emerged as the best-selling MPV in Hong Kong for the second half of the year and the top-selling pure electric MPV in Indonesia in December 2025. Buyer demographic insights reveal that the XPENG X9 has successfully resonated with a wide spectrum of consumers, attracting young millennial and Gen Z families, female drivers, northern region motorists, and tech enthusiasts alike. With the complete rollout of the 2026 dual-powertrain lineup comprising both pure electric and range-extender models, the XPENG X9 continues to reshape the competitive landscape of the luxury MPV segment.
