Overview

WALD is one of the top ten luxury car modification brands in the world, officially founded by Sentaro (also known as Shoryu Taro) in May 1990 in Japan. Initially, the brand focused on Mercedes-Benz modification business, starting from the European market. After returning to the Japanese domestic market in 1994, it integrated German sedan modification styles into Japanese car brands, creating a unique “German-Japanese Mix” design style. Nowadays, WALD’s modification business covers European and American luxury brands such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Audi, Porsche, and Maserati, as well as Japanese mainstream brands like Toyota, Lexus, Honda, and Nissan. It is the exclusive modification brand for Toyota and Lexus and was also an early supplier for MODELLISTA (Toyota Exterior Modification Department). The brand considers itself the “Leader in VIP Luxury Car Modification” and has 20 to 30 direct agencies worldwide, with branches in North America, South America, the Middle East, Asia, and other regions.

History

In May 1990, WALD was officially established, initially focusing on Mercedes-Benz series modification, mainly developing in the European market. In April 1994, the brand started to enter the Japanese domestic car series, launched independent product development, combining years of experience in modifying Mercedes with delicate Japanese craftsmanship, pioneering mixed-style modification kits, unexpectedly gaining widespread praise.

Due to the excellent performance of the modification works, Toyota invited WALD to join the MODELLISTA Exterior Modification Department, specifically designing exterior kits to be sold together with new cars, causing WALD's reputation in Japan to skyrocket. After that, Honda also joined the cooperation with WALD.

2002 was an important turning year for the brand. WALD developed "CF43 KOMPRESSOR" and began selling complete cars under its own brand name in the same year. The company officially adopted the "WALD CO., Ltd" brand name in the same year. In 2006, the Blan Ballen business unit, focusing on lighting accessories such as headlights, HID, LED, etc., was established.

In 2008, the modified Mercedes W216 CL Class Black Bison Edition won the Tokyo Auto Salon Best Imported Vehicle Award; in 2010, the modified Mercedes W212 E-Class Black Bison Edition won the award again. In 2011, the modified Rolls-Royce Phantom Bison Edition brought the same award into the bag, marking that WALD has successfully joined the ranks of global top luxury car modification brands.

In the Chinese market, WALD GREAT CHINA Ltd. serves as the general agent for WALD in the (including Hong Kong/Macau) region.

Product Portfolio

WALD’s modification style is subdivided into three major series:

Executive Series: Focuses on luxurious business style, emphasizing chrome decoration, fine lines, and atmospheric visual presentation. Suitable for Alphard, GranAce, and other high-end MPVs and business vehicles. Adding chrome trim parts at the wheel arches, window frames, and tailgates gives the vehicle a luxurious style without touching the original car body panels.

Sports Series: Developed for sports sedans and sports cars, the kit style is more aggressive. Covers Toyota C-HR exclusive aerodynamic kits, Toyota Land Cruiser 250 series rough sport style modification kits, including modification parts for multiple locations such as front bumper, underbody guard, engine hood, etc. The two wide-body kits built for Toyota Supra include front bumper, wide-body fenders, engine hood, rear diffuser, etc., which can be matched with I12-C, T13-C, T22-C, P12-C, and other forged wheels.

Black Bison Edition: The brand’s representative work and flagship series, with full black or dark paint combined with wide-body kits and exaggerated aerodynamic design, wild and unrestrained style. The series covers a very wide range of models, including Nissan GT-R, Lexus IS-F, Benz C-Class and R-Class, Bentley Continental GT, Rolls-Royce Phantom, Lexus NX, and many other luxury models. Taking the Benz C-Class Estate Black Bison kit as an example, it includes front and rear bumpers, side skirts, rear wing, custom exhaust system, forged wheels, and racing suspension. The starting price of the whole kit is about $5,000, with adjustments based on customization details (pay extra or refund).

In addition to the three major series, WALD also provides interior customization, wheels, brakes, suspension, exhaust system, engine upgrade, and ECU modification and other all-around services. All products pass TÜV, JWL, VIA, and other international certifications.

Market Performance

As a modification brand, WALD does not produce original factory vehicles. Its market influence is mainly reflected through the global agency network and cooperation with original manufacturers (OEM). The brand directly serves luxury car owners who have needs for performance and visual upgrades. In January 2021, WALD officially entered Tmall, further expanding its business reach in the Chinese market.

In the Chinese market, WALD also landed vehicle products in the form of joint brands. In January 2022, Kedi Auto reached strategic cooperation with WALD. In July of the same year, the Kedi WALD Wald series was launched, based on the Toyota sixth-generation Hiace, offering 7-seater, 9-seater, and 7-seater partition layouts. The vehicle is equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine, and the body dimensions can reach 5960/1950/2280mm, with custom dual-color body and WALD exclusive exterior surround as main selling points.

In addition to whole vehicle co-branding, WALD modification kits in the Chinese market are insured and claimed by PICC Property and Casualty Company, improving customer trust in modification products. At the 2025 Guangzhou Auto Show, the FAW Toyota Prado "Xuanjia Sports Edition" built based on WALD kits was also officially displayed, further expanding the brand's influence in the Chinese market.

Technology and Innovation

WALD’s technical strength is mainly reflected in the following aspects:

Aerodynamic Kit: Kits include carbon fiber composite material parts such as front under spoilers, side skirts, rear diffusers, and rear wings, verified through precise calculations and wind tunnels. For the wide-body wheel arches of Toyota Prado, an air guide design is adopted to accommodate wider off-road wheels and AT tires; the carbon fiber kits tailored for BMW M5 cover the front air dam outer frame, wings, rear wing, and lower splitter, balancing lightweight and aerodynamic optimization.

Forged Wheels: WALD independently developed multiple series of forged wheels, which are lighter and have higher strength. They provide I12-C, T13-C, T22-C, P12-C, and other models for Toyota Supra, matched with front 255/30R20 and rear 285/30R20 high-performance tires. Multi-piece black forged wheels are lighter than original factory wheels, effectively reducing unsprung weight and slightly improving performance.

High-Performance Exhaust and Braking System: Multiple models are equipped with quad-style exhaust tailpipes, offering a low and full sound; custom brake calipers and high-performance brake discs provide sufficient braking force for vehicles upgraded in power.

Craftsmanship and Safety: Surround products use materials such as ABS, PP, and carbon fiber. They are installed in a replacement manner without touching the original car body panels, requiring no cutting. All products pass international certification standards such as TÜV, JWL, and VIA, and in the Chinese market, they are insured and claimed by PICC Property and Casualty Company.

Global Presence

WALD’s global layout system is mature and diverse. The brand retains its core headquarters in Japan and has established approximately 20 to 30 direct agencies across North America, South America, the Middle East, Asia, and other regions.

In the Chinese market, WALD’s presence is particularly deep. Early in its development, Guangzhou Walde Trading Co., Ltd. was established as the general agent for the region, including Hong Kong and Macau. In terms of whole-vehicle co-branding, a collaboration with Kedi Auto led to the launch of the Kedi WALD series of imported MPVs, which were listed in July 2022.

In the US market, WALD initially established contact through Kedi Auto’s predecessor, KRYSTAL, the largest chauffeur car manufacturer in the US, gradually expanding its influence in the high-end custom car sector. In the Middle East, WALD enjoys high popularity among high-net-worth clients due to its modification capabilities for ultra-luxury brands such as Rolls-Royce and Bentley. In Southeast Asia, WALD is a commonly chosen upgrade brand for Toyota and Lexus owners in the region.

Future Outlook

As of 2026, the WALD brand, while maintaining its original fuel vehicle modification business, is actively responding to the electrification and intelligence trends in the automotive market. With the consumption upgrade in the global MPV sector, WALD’s cooperation with Kedi Auto continues to deepen, with the Kedi WALD series models further penetrating the high-end business travel market through a customized approach.

At the product level, WALD will continue to expand the coverage of new models in classic series such as Black Bison and launch dedicated kits for next-generation models like the Toyota GR Supra, Land Cruiser LC250, and Prado, thereby consolidating its leading position in Japanese luxury modification. In terms of channel layout, the brand maintains operations on its Tmall flagship store, further strengthening its integrated online and offline modification service network.

Regarding electrification exploration, although WALD has traditionally focused on internal combustion engine luxury cars, it has begun to pay attention to personalized appearance modification plans for new energy vehicles as global automakers accelerate their electric transformation. In the future, the brand may enter the field of appearance upgrades for high-performance electric vehicles, ensuring it continues to maintain its high-end modification status in the new power era. Relying on OEM-level certification capabilities and its global agency network, WALD is expected to maintain the foundational base of its modification business while using more flexible business combinations to explore new opportunities in the context of intelligence and electrification.
