SWM G05 (some model years upgraded to G05 PRO) is a mid-size spacious SUV launched by SWM Motors under the Shineray Group.

The SWM G05 is positioned as a mid-size SUV, offering various seating combinations including 5-seater, 7-seater (2+3+2 layout). As a representative model of SWM's large spacious product line, the core tag for this series is "high cost-performance utility family car". Its main selling point lies in bringing the mid-size SUV body dimensions and multi-seat configuration down to the price range of compact even small SUVs (main model guide prices focus between 80,000 to 120,000 RMB), supplemented with large central control screens and large trunk space, mainly meeting the practical travel and pragmatic commuting needs of multi-person families.
The SWM G05 was born during the phase when Chinese SUVs sought differentiated competition based on space. The series made its debut at the 2019 Chongqing Auto Show and officially went on sale in September of the same year, initially equipped with two powertrains: 1.5T and 2.0L. As a strategic model built by SWM based on the G platform, it inherited part of the market share of the original SWM X7.
As market demand for vehicle configuration and interior texture improved, SWM launched the upgraded series "SWM G05 PRO" in 2021, making adjustments to the front grille (switched to a waterfall large mouth design) and interior tech configurations. Since then, the series maintained a longer model change cycle and successively launched related models such as Honor Edition, Off-road Edition targeting specific refined configurations between 2023 and 2025, mainly maintaining low-threshold product viability through configuration streamlining and price fine-tuning.
In the Chinese market, impacted by the sinking of first-line mainstream independent brands and the rapid popularization of new energy micro/small cars, the overall survival space of the SWM G05 was significantly squeezed. According to industry data up to 2026, the monthly sales of the series in China have entered a low-level operation range (for some months, terminal delivery volume dropped to double digits), main sales outlets and consumer groups are concentrated in lower-tier regions with high price sensitivity and rigid space demands. On the other hand, the SWM G05, relying on the overseas channels of its parent company Shineray Group, developed export business in some developing markets such as Central Asia, South America and North Africa, shouldering a certain share of foreign sales.
In terms of body dimensions, the SWM G05 adopted a geometric contour focused on maximizing interior space, its length, width, and height are 4750 mm, 1860 mm, 1780 mm respectively, and the wheelbase is 2750 mm. The vehicle's rear seats support 180-degree flat folding, having good headroom in regular multi-seat mode.
In terms of power architecture and transmission system, the series mainly provides two gasoline power combinations:
2.0L Naturally Aspirated Version: equipped with an inline-four naturally aspirated engine model SWE20, adopting multipoint fuel injection technology. Maximum power output is 105 kW (about 143 horsepower), maximum torque is 190 Nm. Transmission system matched with 5-speed manual transmission (5MT), NEDC combined cycle fuel consumption is about 7.7 L/100km.
1.5T Turbocharged Version: equipped with an inline-four turbocharged engine model SWD15T. Maximum power output is 115 kW (about 156 horsepower), maximum torque is 220 Nm. Transmission system mainly matched with 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (7DCT), some early or specific versions matched with 6-speed manual transmission.
Regarding chassis steering, the vehicle adopts a front-engine front-drive layout, suspension structure is traditional front MacPherson independent suspension, rear torsion beam non-independent suspension, equipped with electric power steering system (EPS). In terms of digital configuration, the main configuration models in the car are equipped with a 12-inch vertical central control LCD large screen, integrating basic navigation and reversing image functions. On the safety level, basic ABS anti-lock braking, EBD brake force distribution, tire pressure display, and dual airbags are equipped.
Following the industry trend of new energy transformation, the technical iteration of the SWM G05 pure fuel version has basically slowed down. SWM's future product plans mainly revolve around export adaptability retrofitting of existing fuel large spacious vehicle models. Meanwhile, in order to continue the series' viability, Shineray Group is planning to integrate the existing hybrid and EREV (extended-range) power technology stack to this size platform in the future, evaluate the feasibility of launching micro-hybrid or low-cost new energy versions so as to continue to focus on differentiated spatial cost-performance in the increasingly regulated automotive market.
