SAIC MAXUS Xintu V70 Camper Van

2026-10-08 00:40:00

The SAIC MAXUS Xintu V70 Camper Van is a crossover motorhome built upon the brand's "Xintu" light commercial vehicle (LCV) platform. Serving as a key strategic offering in SAIC MAXUS's "new-generation crossover" line-up, the Xintu V70 leverages youthful styling, smart tech, and a versatile crossover concept to meet modern drivers' demands for a dual-purpose vehicle suited for both daily commutes and outdoor camping.

Model Overview

Positioned as a lightweight Class-B motorhome (camper van), the Xintu V70 combines the agile handling of an LCV chassis with practical motorhome living amenities.

Market tags: New-generation crossover, youthful styling, crossover lifestyle, versatile cabin space.

Core highlights: The vehicle's main selling point lies in its boundary-pushing crossover design. Departing from the conventional boxy look of typical commercial vans, the V70 adopts a futuristic parametric diamond-matrix grille and sleek blade-style LED headlamp clusters, giving it a much sharper, lifestyle-oriented presence. Powered by the 2.0T SAIC "π" turbodiesel engine, it delivers punchy low-end torque alongside commendable fuel economy, making it well-suited for suburban getaways and light overlanding trips.

Market positioning: Official prices range primarily between RM140,000 and RM200,000 (varying by customisation and conversion options). It is tailored predominantly for young families, outdoor lifestyle enthusiasts, and boutique mobile business operators.

Development History

Background: In response to the growing demand for more youthful LCVs, SAIC MAXUS unveiled the Xintu V70 in late 2022. Moving away from the utilitarian image of traditional panel vans, the model seeks to redefine light commercial vehicle usage through lifestyle-driven crossover design.

Evolution: Designed from the ground up with passenger-car ergonomics and aesthetics (including a driver-centric cabin layout and smart infotainment systems), the V70 range quickly spawned multiple factory-backed and bespoke conversions, spanning camper vans and executive passenger haulers.

Key milestones:

2023 (Official Launch): Debuting as SAIC MAXUS's headline model, the V70 entered the market as a "new-generation crossover". Its modern aesthetics struck a chord in the van community, spurring a wide variety of commercial camper conversions.

2024–2026 (Model Updates): Following the streamlining of the "Xintu" naming structure, the V70 Camper Van received continuous updates to its on-board utilities management system, featuring an intuitive central touchscreen for living-quarters controls to enhance overall user convenience.

Market Performance

The V70 Camper Van maintains an active presence in the compact-to-medium motorhome conversion segment.

Competitive landscape: Compared to the larger MAXUS V90, the V70's more compact and nimble footprint makes it far better suited for city driving. Its key rivals include medium-sized van conversions from competing marques. Thanks to MAXUS's dominant LCV market share and established factory conversion ecosystem, the V70 enjoys distinct advantages in regulatory compliance and after-sales warranty support.

Owner feedback: Drivers consistently praise its contemporary, non-commercial styling, punchy low-end acceleration off the line, and car-like handling agility. While its living quarters are naturally tighter than the V90's, younger buyers widely appreciate its dual-purpose role as a daily driver and weekend getaway vehicle.

Core Technologies

Powertrain: Powered by a SAIC "π" 2.0-litre inline-four turbodiesel engine producing 150 hp (110 kW) and 375 Nm of peak torque, delivered between 1,500 and 2,400 rpm. Transmission options include a 6-speed manual (6MT) and a 9-speed automatic (9AT).

Chassis & suspension: Built on a front-engine, front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout, the chassis combines front MacPherson struts with a rear leaf-spring rigid axle setup, striking a practical balance between load-bearing stability and long-distance ride comfort, backed by Bosch ESP 9.3 electronic stability control.

Living quarters: The interior features modular cabinetry that allows for configurable dinette seating, convertible bedding, and a compact kitchenette setup (complete with a sink and portable stove). Electrical amenities include a 48V power system, an integrated inverter-charger, and auxiliary solar panels, easily catering to off-grid power needs during short camping stays.

Infotainment & connectivity: Features a 10.1-inch HD touchscreen infotainment display with smartphone integration and the "Spider Connected" telematics suite, offering remote vehicle telematics and multimedia controls.

Future Plans

As of June 2026, SAIC MAXUS's product roadmap for the V70 Camper Van centres on:

Lifestyle-driven enhancements: Developing lighter, modular quick-release interior furnishings tailored to camping enthusiasts to maximise cabin versatility.

Smart connectivity: Further upgrading power management and control protocols in the living quarters, with expanded smartphone app controls for smart cabin environment management (including climate settings, ambient lighting, and energy optimisation).

Bespoke personalisation: Expanding factory customisation options for exterior liveries and interior trim themes to appeal to style-conscious buyers seeking individual expression.
