The OMODA C7 PHEV is a C-segment plug-in hybrid SUV developed specifically for export markets by Chery Group's OMODA brand. The model made its global debut in March 2025 at the Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS) in Thailand, positioned as an upmarket offering above the C5 and sitting squarely between the OMODA C5 and C9. As an export-only product line, the Omoda and Jaecoo brands are not sold in Mainland China.

Positioned as a C-segment five-seater SUV, the OMODA C7 PHEV primarily targets young global buyers seeking high-tech appeal and strong value for money. Within the OMODA line-up, the C7 PHEV serves as the flagship plug-in hybrid model and is regarded as a sister model to the Jaecoo J7. The SUV is being rolled out across multiple overseas markets, including Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Russia. In the Russian market, pricing starts from around 2.99 million Rubles (approx. RM268,000), while in South Africa, it starts from 689,900 South African Rand (approx. RM270,000).
In terms of dimensions, slight variations exist across different markets. According to Global NEVS and Malaysian media figures, it measures 4,660 mm long, 1,875 mm wide, and 1,670 mm tall, with a 2,720 mm wheelbase. Meanwhile, figures from Thailand and Russia list it at 4,621 × 1,872 × 1,673 mm with a 2,700 mm wheelbase. Overall, its footprint is on par with the Honda CR-V (4,691 × 1,866 × 1,681 mm, with a 2,701 mm wheelbase).
On the exterior front, the OMODA C7 PHEV adopts the brand's signature X-shaped design language. The front fascia sports a borderless closed-off grille flanked by sharp, ultra-slim LED headlamps, paired with a full-width lower air intake that aids aerodynamics whilst creating a futuristic presence. The side profile features sculpted lines, with flush pop-out door handles, blacked-out A-, B-, and C-pillars, and a floating roof effect enhancing its sleek, high-tech character. Round the back, full-width LED taillights and a sculpted rear bumper deliver a distinctive nighttime signature. High-spec variants ride on 20-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels with contrasting red brake calipers.
Inside, the cabin takes on a clean, minimalist approach. The standout highlight is the 15.6-inch 2.5K sliding central touchscreen, which can slide sideways across the dashboard between the centre console and the front passenger side, allowing the co-driver easy access to in-car controls. The driver gets a fully digital instrument cluster alongside a Head-Up Display (HUD). Premium soft-touch materials with refined textures seamlessly integrate the dashboard and door cards. A sporty flat-bottom steering wheel takes centre stage, with selected variants adding an intelligent fragrance system.
Under the skin, the OMODA C7 PHEV is powered by Chery’s proprietary SHS (Super Hybrid System). The setup pairs a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder hybrid-specific petrol engine with a front-mounted electric motor. The combustion engine produces 156 PS (approx. 115 kW) and 220 Nm of torque, while the electric drive motor churns out 204 PS (approx. 150 kW) and 310 Nm. Combined, the system dishes out a total of 360 PS (approx. 255–265 kW) and 530 Nm of maximum torque.
Energy is stored in an 18.3–18.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack supplied by BYD. On pure electric power, it delivers an NEDC-rated range of around 95 to 108 km. With a full tank and full charge, the combined cruising range is rated between 1,200 and 1,250 km, with combined fuel consumption quoted as low as 4.9 to 4.98 L/100 km. Power is channelled through a hybrid-dedicated single-speed DHT (Dedicated Hybrid Transmission).
As for charging, the vehicle features Type 2 AC and CCS2 DC ports, supporting up to 6 kW AC slow charging and up to 47.5 kW DC fast charging.
The OMODA C7 PHEV runs a front-engine, front-wheel-drive setup. The suspension configuration comprises front MacPherson struts and a rear torsion beam setup. The chassis tuning leans towards ride comfort with compliant bump absorption, staying true to its brief as an urban family SUV. Steering weighting is light and throttle response is sharp, making it effortless to drive in daily commutes.
Drivers can choose from up to 7 drive modes, supported by an energy regenerative braking system. Selected markets also offer an all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant.
The cabin is packed with tech, headlined by the 15.6-inch 2.5K sliding touchscreen that can glide towards either the driver or front passenger. The infotainment unit consolidates navigation, climate control, and media playback into a unified interface. In the audio department, it gets a high-end 14-speaker Sony sound system arranged in a "12+2" layout—consisting of 12 cabin speakers plus two embedded in the driver's headrest for navigation cues and hands-free calls, delivering a more immersive experience. An Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) system is also on board to suppress engine noise effectively.
In terms of creature comforts, the front seats boast power adjustment alongside heating, ventilation, and massage functions. Other standard and available kit include a panoramic sunroof, a wireless smartphone charger, rear air-con vents, and keyless entry with walk-away auto-lock.
Safety-wise, the OMODA C7 PHEV comes equipped with 8 airbags as standard. On the active safety front, it features a full suite of Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems). Key active features include Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), and Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM). Additionally, a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and ISOFIX child seat anchors come standard.
Warranty-wise, the South African market offers a 5-year/75,000 km service plan, a 7-year/200,000 km vehicle warranty, a 10-year/1,000,000 km engine warranty for the first owner, a 10-year/200,000 km electric drive unit warranty, and an unlimited-mileage hybrid battery warranty for the first owner.
The OMODA C7 PHEV represents a key pillar in Chery Group's globalisation strategy. The SUV has already broken cover or hit showrooms in markets such as Thailand, Malaysia, Russia, and South Africa. The OMODA brand is currently sold in over 30 countries worldwide, with cumulative wholesale volume crossing 60,000 units in the first half of 2023—nearly 90% of which was contributed by export markets. In Malaysia, the combined OMODA and Jaecoo brands have delivered over 17,000 vehicles.
From a critical standpoint, South African motoring portal Autotrader noted that the hybrid powertrain of the OMODA C7 PHEV delivers impressive performance and commendable fuel economy, with an interior that offers an upmarket ambience. However, areas cited for improvement include the infotainment system's menu logic and certain ultra-minimalist controls that are less intuitive in daily use. Overall, backed by punchy hybrid performance, an extensive combined cruising range, and a generous equipment list, the OMODA C7 PHEV presents a compelling proposition in the overseas C-segment SUV arena.
