2026-10-12 00:50:00

Model Overview

The Nissan Ariya is an all-electric compact crossover SUV (coupe SUV) from Japanese automaker Nissan, serving as a core strategic model under the brand's "Nissan NEXT" business transformation plan. The Ariya made its global premiere in July 2020, opened for bookings in 2021, and was officially launched in 2022. Representing the pinnacle of Nissan's electric vehicle engineering, the Ariya is built on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance's dedicated CMF-EV pure electric platform, featuring 100% in-house developed EV powertrain technology. On 27 September 2022, the Dongfeng Nissan Ariya officially went on sale in China. In October 2025, the Ariya made its mid-life facelift debut at the Japan Mobility Show 2025; the 2026 facelift model was first launched in Japan on 20 February 2026, followed by the high-performance Ariya NISMO on 19 March. Dimension-wise, the 2026 Ariya measures 4,595 mm in length, 1,850 mm in width, and 1,655 mm in height, with a 2,775 mm wheelbase, whereas the China-spec version measures 4,603/1,900/1,658 mm (wheelbase: 2,775 mm). In Japan, the lineup is priced from JPY 6,675,900 to JPY 8,072,900 (approx. RM320,000 to RM390,000).

Design Language

The Ariya is styled around the  "Timeless Japanese Futurism"  design philosophy, seamlessly blending traditional Japanese aesthetic nuances with futuristic technology. The 2026 facelift introduces a noticeable makeover to the front fascia: the signature V-Motion trim is pushed further to the flanks, while the previously black grille is now finished in body colour for a cleaner, more cohesive visual profile. The headlamp assemblies feature a new "7"-shaped LED graphic with primary illumination units on top and integrated daytime running lights (DRLs) below, with the illuminated Nissan emblem continuing to sit proudly at the centre. The rear continues with the signature full-width LED light bar. The refreshed EV rides on newly styled 20-inch dynamic alloy wheels made from an aluminium alloy and resin composite structure, balancing weight savings with visual sophistication. A new aurora-inspired "Jade Light" two-tone paint option joins the exterior palette. Inside, the cabin retains its minimalist architectural layout, now refreshed with a green and grey dual-tone colourway that evokes the serene ambience of a contemporary home lounge. Key cabin appointments include twin 12.3-inch integrated displays and a motorized sliding centre console.

Powertrain & Performance

The 2026 Ariya is available in single-motor rear-wheel drive (RWD) and dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) layouts across three state-of-tune options:

  • Single-Motor Standard Range: Max output of 160 kW (218 PS), equipped with a 66 kWh battery pack.

  • Single-Motor Long Range: Max output of 178 kW (242 PS), equipped with a 91 kWh battery pack.

  • Dual-Motor AWD: Combined maximum output of 290 kW (394 PS).

In terms of driving range, the four variants achieve 501 km, 623 km, 559 km, and 533 km respectively under the CLTC cycle. On the WLTP cycle, the 91 kWh Long Range variant delivers up to 548 km, while the 66 kWh Standard Range offers 423 km. The Ariya supports DC fast charging at up to 130 kW, taking just 30 minutes to juice up from 20% to 80%, or adding 100 km of range in 8 minutes. Overseas, the NISMO performance variant pumps out 320 kW from its dual-motor AWD system, complemented by an aggressive aero bodykit.

Chassis & Handling

Under the skin, the Ariya features a front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link independent suspension setup. For 2026, the suspension has been specifically retuned for Japanese city road conditions—revised damper damping characteristics filter out road chatter more effectively, enhancing long-distance ride comfort and cruising refinement. Drivetrain options include front-wheel drive (FWD) and dual-motor AWD. AWD variants feature Nissan's e-4ORCE electric all-wheel control system, which seamlessly distributes front-to-rear torque across a variable ratio of 100:0 to 0:100. Executing ultra-precise motor torque adjustments within 1/10,000th of a second, the system dramatically improves stability and cornering composure over rough or slippery surfaces. Drivers can toggle between four drive modes: Standard, Eco, Sport, and Snow.

Cabin & Features

In-car technology forms the core highlight of the 2026 Ariya's update list, with the NissanConnect infotainment system now integrating Google built-in. Drivers get native access to Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Google Play Store for direct app downloads. The system also introduces navigation-linked battery thermal pre-conditioning—routing to a DC fast charger automatically primes the battery to its optimal thermal window en route, ensuring peak charging efficiency upon arrival. Also new is an Intelligent Distance Control system that delivers smoother, more natural following distances in stop-and-go urban traffic. On the comfort front, the dashboard features haptic touch controls embedded into warm wood grain panels, seamlessly blending natural warmth with minimalist tech; acoustic laminated glass delivers an exceptionally serene cabin environment. The 2026 update adds a Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external power supply function that delivers up to 1,500 W of output, even with the car locked. The seats retain Nissan's signature plush, fatigue-free comfort. Notably, the Ariya's interior previously earned a spot on the prestigious Wards "10 Best Interiors & UX" list.

Safety & Driver Assistance

Safety is comprehensively covered by the latest Nissan Intelligent Mobility active safety suite, providing full active and passive crash protection. Key ADAS features include: Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) with full-speed stop-and-go, Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Predictive Forward Collision Warning (PFCW), and Nissan's proprietary AI-powered intelligent driving assistance system. A 360-degree Intelligent Around View Monitor (AVM) is fitted as standard. Supported by the Nissan Safety Shield philosophy, the vehicle provides multi-layered protection for occupants and road users alike, with autonomous driving capabilities operating beyond standard Level 2.

Market Performance & Overview

Since its localized China debut in 2022, the Nissan Ariya has faced an uphill battle in the market. Starting prices originally breached RM270,000, before subsequent price revisions lowered the entry barrier to RM199,900. Sales, however, have remained sluggish—with full-year 2025 volume registering just 295 units, and some months plunging into single digits or zero deliveries. Market analysts point to steep launch pricing, hyper-competitive segment rivals, and limited brand awareness in the pure EV space as the primary hurdles. The 2026 mid-life facelift aims to revive market interest through a redesigned front fascia, Google built-in integration, V2L capabilities, and retuned suspension dynamics. In this space, the Ariya's primary rivals include joint-venture electric SUVs such as the Volkswagen ID.4, Toyota bZ4X, and Honda e:NS2. As the flagship of Nissan's electric push, the Ariya carves out its distinctive Japanese premium positioning in the electric SUV market, underpinned by the engineering pedigree of the CMF-EV platform, the dynamic prowess of the e-4ORCE AWD system, and its "Timeless Japanese Futurism" design language.
