Munro is an electric ultra-heavy off-road vehicle manufacturing brand from Scotland, affiliated with Munro Vehicles company. The brand was founded in 2019, headquartered in Glasgow, Scotland, with production base located in East Kilbride, being the first Scottish mass-production car manufacturer in over forty years. The brand name "Munro" originates from the collective term for mountains exceeding 3,000 feet in altitude within Scotland, symbolizing that the brand should be as solid and reliable as a high mountain, challenging the heavy off-road field never entered by new energy vehicles. Munro does not target ordinary consumers, but focuses on fields such as mining, construction, defense, emergency rescue, and forestry, providing sturdy, durable, and easy-to-maintain electric off-road work vehicles, dubbed the "bulldozer of electric vehicles".
Munro's founding stemmed from the founders' dissatisfaction with the flaws of traditional fuel off-road vehicles. Founder Russ Peterson (CEO) was born on a farm, later worked in the software industry, and resumed off-road vehicle hobbies due to nostalgia for outdoor adventure passion. In 2018, Russ and old friend Ross Anderson (Head of Powertrain) conceived the idea of building a truly robust electric off-road vehicle during a camping trip in the Scottish Highlands. The two self-funded the prototype creation; initially just a personal hobby project, but discovering huge commercial demand during exchanges with commercial fleet operators, they formally established the company in 2019, shifting from personal hobby to commercialization.
After three years of R&D, the brand unveiled the prototype to the public in December 2022, becoming the first automotive manufacturer to reach mass production in Scotland since 1981. Formal production began in early 2023, with a pickup version launched in May of the same year, and the "Mountain Rescue Edition" for emergency services released in September. In 2024, sales were only 4 units, but due to decarbonization demands in the heavy industry sector, the order book grew rapidly. Currently, products have been put into use in public service fleets of multiple local governments in the UK, while entering Swedish open-pit mines for actual testing and verification, and receiving high attention in defense, power, and disaster rescue fields. Only 4 vehicles were delivered in 2024, but as of July 2025, the company holds 246 confirmed orders, with a total value of approx. £17 million (approx. 153 million RMB). Regarding production planning, the company plans to increase annual output to 2,500 units starting from 2027, and has set a long-term goal of achieving an annual production of 5,000 units within six years.

This setup retains the mechanical transmission structure characteristic of traditional hardcore off-road vehicles.
Battery and Range: Early Series M models were equipped with 61 kWh or 82 kWh NMC batteries. A mid-life refresh switched to safer 85 kWh LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) batteries, offering a WLTP range of approximately 170 miles (about 274 km). The vehicle supports up to 130 kW DC fast charging, allowing a charge from 15% to 80% in 30 minutes. The entire battery pack is designed modularly, enabling individual damaged modules to be replaced, which significantly reduces maintenance costs.

Plans to expand delivery scope to Austria in 2026. The company has applied for and received export awards issued by the UK Government Department for International Trade. Overseas market positioning is clear: Enterprises in countries like Germany and Sweden are more inclined to purchase optimal dedicated tools for tasks, which is completely different from the preference for cheap rental models in China and many other countries.
Munro's future strategy will center on a "Commercial Ecosystem + Technology Export" model. The company will continue to leverage the hard decarbonization demands in sectors such as mining, infrastructure, and the military to expand Series M applications into more specialized scenarios. To support this growth, Munro has built a new factory in Scotland to significantly increase production capacity and plans to expand its team from approximately 10 people to around 40 within the next three to four years. Munro's long-term goal is to establish a global leadership position in the "Dedicated Specialized Electric 4x4" sector. Currently, the brand has no official business presence or news in the Chinese market.
