Model Overview

The Mercedes-AMG EQS is a high-performance, fully electric executive saloon built on the EVA2 dedicated EV architecture, serving as the AMG division's first-ever production all-electric model. Having made its global debut at the Munich Motor Show in Germany in September 2021, the flagship EV officially went on sale in 2022. As of June 2026, the variant offered in the Chinese domestic market is the 2023 AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+, carrying an official recommended retail price of RM1,566,000. Earlier reports indicate that the car originally debuted with a starting price of RM1,745,600 before subsequent price revisions. In Taiwan, the AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ starts from RM8,310,000. Serving as the high-performance iteration of the EQS, the AMG EQS boasts comprehensive Affalterbach-engineered upgrades across its powertrain, chassis and suspension, braking hardware, as well as bespoke exterior and interior appointments, firmly embodying AMG's "Performance Luxury" ethos in the electrified era.
Design Language
Aesthetically, the AMG EQS retains the EQ family's signature sweeping "one-bow" silhouette, with ultra-short front and rear overhangs lending it futuristic body proportions. The front end is dominated by an AMG-specific Panamericana-style closed-off grille paired with Digital Light headlamps, significantly sharpening its visual presence. Along the flanks, clean character lines are complemented by large-diameter high-profile tyres. In terms of dimensions, the flagship EV measures 5,224 mm in length, 1,926 mm in width, and 1,520 mm in height, with a generous 3,210 mm wheelbase. Round back, a full-width LED light bar lends the rear a sleek and modern look. Rolling stock comprises standard 21-inch AMG alloy wheels, with 22-inch aerodynamic alloys available as an option. Stopping power is managed by six-piston front brake callipers clamping on 17-inch discs, with an AMG high-performance carbon-ceramic composite braking system available as an option.
Stepping inside, the AMG EQS inherits the high-tech cockpit architecture of the EQS, injected with an array of AMG-exclusive appointments to heighten its performance-focused ambience. The sports-themed cabin features an AMG Performance flat-bottom steering wheel trimmed in Nappa leather, AMG sports pedals, AMG door sill plates, AMG floor mats, and generous carbon-fibre inlays. The seats come upholstered in Artico synthetic leather (with Nappa leather optional), accented by striking red contrast stitching.
Powertrain & Performance
Propelling the AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+ is a pair of AMG-tuned permanently excited synchronous motors (PSM) on the front and rear axles. In standard trim, the dual-motor setup delivers a combined output of 484 kW (approx. 658 PS) and 950 Nm of torque. Opting for the AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package raises peak output to 560 kW (approx. 761 PS) and 1,020 Nm in RACE START mode. The official 0-100 km/h sprint is completed in 3.5 seconds in standard guise, dropping to 3.4 seconds with the DYNAMIC PLUS pack. Top speed is electronically capped at 220 km/h. Powering the motors is a 107.8 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery pack, delivering a CLTC-rated electric driving range of 601 km, while WLTP range figures stand between 526 and 580 km. For charging, the saloon supports up to 200 kW DC fast charging, and comes equipped with an 11 kW AC onboard charger as standard, with a 22 kW AC unit available as an option. Under DC fast charging, a 19-minute charge replenishes up to 300 km of driving range.
Chassis & Handling
Under the skin, the AMG EQS is underpinned by the EVA2 dedicated all-electric platform. The suspension setup consists of a front double-wishbone and a rear multi-link independent suspension. AMG engineers developed bespoke mountings for the rear axle and motors, coupled with dedicated chassis tuning. The adaptive suspension supports both damping stiffness and ride-height adjustments. Drivetrain duty is handled by a dual-motor electric all-wheel drive system. Notably, standard active rear-axle steering provides up to 9° of rear steering angle, drastically improving urban agility for a full-size saloon. The AMG DYNAMIC SELECT drive programme offers five selectable driving modes: Slippery, Comfort, Sport, Sport+, and Individual. The regenerative braking system also comes with multi-stage adjustability.
Cockpit & Equipment
Dominating the cabin is the signature MBUX Hyperscreen, which seamlessly merges a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 17.7-inch central infotainment touchscreen, and a 12.3-inch front passenger display beneath a sweeping 1.41-metre-wide curved Gorilla Glass panel. The infotainment system runs the MBUX operating software featuring AMG-specific display graphics and telemetry menus. The AMG Track Pace data logger is available optionally. Audiophiles are treated to a premium Burmester surround sound system. Comfort and convenience amenities include a heated steering wheel, front massage seats, ventilated and heated rear seats, dual sunroofs, and multi-zone automatic climate control. Practicality-wise, the split-folding rear seats expand the boot capacity up to 1,770 litres.
Safety & Driver Assistance
On the safety front, the AMG EQS comes fitted with 10 airbags as standard. Active safety systems comprise Driver Attention Assist, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA/BAS), and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). For automated driving, the vehicle is equipped with a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). Core functionalities include full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Centring Assist, Active Parking Assist, Blind Spot Assist, and a 360-degree surround-view camera system.
Market Performance & Evaluation
Representing the AMG brand's maiden production all-electric model, the AMG EQS marks a pivotal milestone in the performance arm's electrification journey. However, its market performance has faced notable headwinds. In the first half of 2025, Mercedes-Benz's global EV sales trailed BMW's all-electric i lineup by around 50%. In the Chinese market, Mercedes-Benz posted cumulative H1 sales of just 293,200 units, marking a 14% year-on-year decline. Consequently, the AMG EQS has seen steep dealer discounts locally, with price cuts reaching up to RM300,000 in selected regions, and some reports even citing discounts of up to RM780,000. In this high-end segment, primary rivals to the AMG EQS include the Audi RS e-tron GT and BMW i5 M60. Industry analysts note that consumer value perception towards electrified offerings from traditional luxury marques is undergoing a massive shift. With order books for the regular EQS saloon already closed in certain markets, the AMG EQS stands as a quintessential case study in the heritage luxury segment's EV transition—blending formidable engineering prowess with evolving market challenges.
