Mercedes-Benz EQE

2026-10-02 12:50:00

The Mercedes-Benz EQE is an executive all-electric saloon built by Beijing Benz on the dedicated EVA electric platform. As a core offering in the Mercedes-EQ stable, the EQE first made its debut in the Chinese market back in 2022. On 26 November 2025, the 2026 Mercedes-Benz EQE officially went on sale, available in three variants—500 4MATIC Pioneer, 500 4MATIC Luxury, and 500 4MATIC Flagship, priced between RM478,000 and RM627,000. The 2026 iteration adopts an "added kit at no extra cost" approach, packing a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain as standard across the range and delivering a CLTC electric range of up to 681 km. Positioned as an executive luxury EV saloon, its primary rival is the BMW i5.

Design Language

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz EQE carries forward the EQ sub-brand's signature "Sensual Purity" and "Progressive Luxury" design philosophy. Up front, it features the "Black Panel" enclosed grille studded with miniature three-pointed stars, flanked by intelligent Digital Light headlamp clusters to deliver a sleek, unified front fascia. The range-topping Flagship variant scores the Digital Light package with projection capability; the advanced lighting system allows precision beam control, packing up to 2.6 million micro-pixels per vehicle. Along the flanks, it boasts a sleek fastback silhouette and flush-fitting sensor-operated pop-out door handles that deploy automatically upon approach. Round the back, a 3D helix full-width LED light bar provides instant brand recognition after dark. Dimension-wise, the saloon measures 4,969 mm long, 1,906 mm wide, and 1,514 mm tall, with a generous 3,120 mm wheelbase. Thanks to its aerodynamically sculpted profile, it achieves a remarkably low drag coefficient of just 0.22 Cd. Exterior paint options include Obsidian Black, Polar White, High-Tech Silver, and Sodalite Blue. Inside, the EQE sports a clean, multi-layered dashboard layout, coming standard with a three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, a fully digital instrument cluster, and a floating centre touchscreen, while top-spec models can be had with the full-width seamless display layout. Open-pore wood trim combined with ambient lighting further elevates the cabin's premium ambience.

Powertrain and Performance

The 2026 Mercedes-Benz EQE features front and rear permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) as standard, delivering full-time dual-motor all-wheel drive. The electric powertrain churns out a total system output of 300 kW (408 PS) and 858 Nm of torque. It completes the century sprint (0-100 km/h) in 4.9 seconds, on to a top speed of 200 km/h. Energy is stored in a 96.1 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery pack, providing a CLTC-rated electric driving range of up to 681 km. When plugged into a DC fast charger, a 10% to 80% state of charge (SoC) takes around 37 minutes, while standard AC charging takes approximately 13 hours. Power consumption is rated at 15.2 kWh per 100 km.

Chassis and Handling

Underpinned by the bespoke EVA platform, the EQE employs a double-wishbone independent suspension up front and a multi-link independent setup at the rear. A key enhancement for the 2026 model year is the wider availability of rear-axle steering—now offered as an optional extra on lower- and mid-tier variants with up to 10 degrees of steering angle, trimming the turning circle to just 10.7 metres; the range-topping Flagship variant gets it as standard kit. This feature noticeably improves low-speed manoeuvrability in tight urban spaces and parking situations. Additionally, the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system is standard fare across the range, complete with Dynamic Select driving modes including Comfort, Sport, Eco, and Individual.

Cabin and Equipment

As standard, the EQE cockpit is fitted with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 12.8-inch portrait-style floating OLED infotainment display. The range-topping Flagship variant steps up to the MBUX Hyperscreen—a sweeping 1.41-metre curved glass panel stretching seamlessly across the dashboard. It runs on the MBUX multimedia system with the intuitive "Zero Layer" UI design, integrating bespoke AutoNavi mapping and augmented reality (AR) navigation. A 5G telematics module comes standard across the board, alongside a new Digital Key utilising ultra-wideband (UWB), Bluetooth, and NFC tech. Audiophiles will appreciate the standard Burmester 3D surround sound system. Convenience features include multi-zone climate control (available across the range), heated front seats, wireless smartphone charging, a panoramic sliding glass roof, and dynamic star-pattern puddle lamps.

Safety and Advanced Driver Assistance (ADAS)

The EQE packs an extensive suite of 23 ADAS sensors across the car, including a long-range millimetre-wave radar (with a 200-metre forward detection range), 4 corner radars, 12 ultrasonic parking sensors, a forward-facing stereo multifunction camera, and 4 360-degree parking cameras. The 2026 model receives a notable ADAS upgrade—the Navigation Pilot Assist Max system is now standard on the Luxury and Flagship variants, and available as an option on the entry Pioneer model. Operating at Level 2 semi-autonomous capability, the suite includes full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control, Active Lane Centring, Active Lane Change Assist, and Active Parking Assist. Passive safety is bolstered by 8 airbags, comprising front, side, curtain, driver's knee, and front centre airbags. Active safety kit includes Blind Spot Assist, Active Brake Assist, Forward/Rear Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, and Attention Assist. It also comes equipped with the PRE-SAFE predictive occupant protection system.

Market Performance and Reception

Since its introduction in 2022, the Mercedes-Benz EQE has experienced lacklustre sales in China. Between January and July 2025, only 866 units of the EQE saloon were registered, averaging under 300 units per month. From January to March 2026, cumulative sales slumped to a mere 184 units, following a full-year tally of 2,912 units in 2025. In response to sluggish showroom demand, authorised dealers have resorted to heavy price-slashing, rolling out substantial discounts on showroom floors. Market reports suggest Mercedes-Benz is slated to officially pull the plug on the EQE nameplate in 2026, affecting both the saloon and SUV variants. Industry analysts attribute the EQE's slow uptake to muted product competitiveness, in-car smart tech that trailed local EV rivals, and brand perception hurdles during the marque's electrification pivot. As a cornerstone of the brand's electric push, the EQE showcased Mercedes-Benz's technical ambition in the luxury EV saloon segment, though its commercial struggle highlights the steep challenges legacy premium automakers face amidst the EV transition.
