2026-09-25 01:10:00

Model Overview

The Mercedes-AMG EQE is a high-performance all-electric executive sedan built on Mercedes-AMG's dedicated EVA electric platform, representing one of AMG's core offerings in its transition into the electric era. Making its global debut on 16 February 2022, the model was introduced in two variants: the AMG EQE 43 4MATIC and the AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+. In the domestic market, the AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ carries an official starting retail price of RM862,000. As the high-performance iteration of the EQE, the AMG EQE receives comprehensive AMG-specific enhancements over the standard model across its powertrain, chassis and suspension, exterior and interior styling, as well as the acoustic sound system, fully embodying AMG's "Performance Luxury" philosophy in the EV era.

Design Language

On the outside, the AMG EQE retains the EQ family's signature "one-bow" aerodynamic silhouette, with ultra-short front and rear overhangs echoing the design ethos of the flagship EQS. Up front, the large black enclosed panel grille features AMG's iconic vertical chrome slats, significantly sharpening its visual presence. The redesigned front bumper adopts a multi-layered two-tone structure for an aggressive stance. At the rear, it sports a full-width LED light bar and a subtle boot lid spoiler, complemented by a rear diffuser on the lower apron to amplify its athletic character. Detail-wise, flush pop-out door handles are fitted. Rolling stock comprises 21-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels wrapped in bespoke Michelin PS EV tyres (265/35 R21), backed by a front six-piston ceramic high-performance composite braking system with massive 440 mm brake discs. Dimensions-wise, the vehicle measures 4,969 mm in length, 1,906 mm in width, and 1,493 mm in height, with a 3,120 mm wheelbase.

Inside, the AMG EQE adopts the EQ family's latest design architecture, headlined by the MBUX Hyperscreen. This sweeping curved glass panel spans 1.41 metres and houses the digital instrument cluster, central infotainment touchscreen, and front passenger display. Befitting its AMG credentials, the cabin receives bespoke upgrades: AMG sports seats, alongside microfibre suede and carbon-fibre accents across the dashboard; the flat-bottom AMG steering wheel is similarly trimmed in microfibre suede and carbon fibre, complete with a 12 o'clock centre marker and dedicated steering wheel dials for suspension and drive mode selection. The MBUX system also integrates AMG-specific functions, including the AMG Sound Experience, which generates distinctive acoustic soundscapes tailored to various driving modes to elevate driver engagement.

Powertrain & Performance

The AMG EQE is offered in two output levels. The AMG EQE 43 4MATIC features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup producing 350 kW (around 476 PS) and 858 Nm of torque, completing the 0–100 km/h sprint in 4.2 seconds towards a top speed of 210 km/h. Meanwhile, the AMG EQE 53 4MATIC+ also packs an AMG-specific dual-motor powertrain, churning out 460 kW (around 626 PS) and 950 Nm, dispatching 0–100 km/h in 3.5 seconds. Opting for the AMG DYNAMIC PLUS package on the 53 variant temporarily boosts output to 505 kW (around 687 PS) and 1,000 Nm, cutting the 0–100 km/h sprint to just 3.3 seconds while raising the top speed to 238–240 km/h.

Juicing the AMG EQE is a 90.6 kWh ternary lithium battery pack. Due to its performance-focused calibration, WLTP-rated range spans between 442 and 515 km, down from the standard EQE's 656 km. The driving range under CLTC testing conditions is rated at 568 km. In terms of charging capabilities, it supports up to 170 kW DC fast charging, adding around 180 km of range in just 15 minutes. The AMG-specific battery management system—engineered at Affalterbach—is paired with a dedicated thermal management system to ensure sustained peak performance under repeated hard acceleration.

Chassis & Handling

The chassis is where the AMG EQE truly sets itself apart from standard variants, benefiting from AMG's proprietary chassis engineering. Suspension duties are handled by the AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension system. It features a four-link front and multi-link rear suspension setup, with reinforced links and anti-roll bars tuned for higher torsional rigidity. The adaptive damping system employs two pressure-relief valves per damper, assessing driving inputs and road conditions up to 500 times per second. Rear-axle steering is standard across the board, significantly sharpening low-speed manoeuvrability and high-speed stability. The AMG 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive system continuously monitors and redistributes torque up to 10,000 times per minute. Stopping power comes courtesy of AMG high-performance composite brakes, integrated with an i-Booster electromechanical brake booster for efficient kinetic energy recuperation.

Cabin & Equipment

In terms of packaging, the AMG EQE features a 5-door, 5-seater executive sedan layout. The MBUX Hyperscreen stands as the interior's high-tech centrepiece, integrating three high-resolution displays beneath a single curved glass unit spanning 141 cm. The infotainment system supports 4G connectivity, AR live-view navigation, and smartphone app remote telematics. Audiophiles are treated to a premium Burmester surround sound system. Upholstery comes in a leather and suede mix, with Nappa leather available as an option. Creature comforts include dual panoramic sunroofs, acoustic laminated glass throughout, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Up front, the DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps boast 1.3 million pixels per side, dynamically adjusting illumination to suit prevailing traffic and weather conditions.

Safety & Driver Assistance

On the safety front, the AMG EQE comes fully equipped with passive safety kit such as a tyre pressure monitoring system and a driver's knee airbag. For active safety, it features a Level 2 advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). Key highlights include full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control, a 360-degree surround-view camera, Active Parking Assist, Lane Centring Assist, Active Lane Change Assist, and Navigation-Assisted Driving. The drive mode selector offers multiple profiles, including Standard/Comfort, Eco, Sport, and Individual. To enrich the EV driving experience, the AMG Sound Experience provides two distinct acoustic themes: "Authentic" and "Performance".

Market Performance & Verdict

As a trailblazer in AMG's electrification journey, the AMG EQE demonstrates the sub-brand's technical calibre in the EV era—from its dual-motor AWD setup and AMG RIDE CONTROL+ air suspension to rear-axle steering and bespoke battery management, showcasing an uncompromising dedication to "Performance Luxury". However, in the commercial arena, the AMG EQE shares the broader headwinds facing the EQ family, which has experienced muted sales since hitting the market in 2022. Market analysts point to shifting consumer perceptions regarding the value proposition of EVs from legacy luxury marques. Concurrently, Mercedes-Benz has announced it will cease taking orders for the EQE and EQS model lines. In its segment, the AMG EQE goes head-to-head with rivals like the BMW i5 M60 and Audi RS e-tron GT. Amidst an irreversible electrification wave, the AMG EQE blends AMG's motorsport pedigree with electric powertrain technology, offering a distinct electrified proposition in the high-performance sedan arena.
