Lotus Eletre

2026-10-09 09:40:01

Model Overview

The Lotus Eletre marks the brand's first all-electric intelligent Hyper SUV and stands as the pioneer herald of Lotus's push into the electric era. The name Eletre draws from Eastern European origins, translating to "coming to life". Unveiled globally in March 2022, the SUV entered serial production at the Wuhan Smart Plant in the second half of 2022. As of June 2026, the domestic 2026 Eletre line-up is offered in three variants—600, 600 SE, and 900—commanding an indicative price tag between RM558,000 and RM838,000. Pitching supercar DNA into an executive SUV footprint, the Eletre's chief rivals on the global stage include high-performance electric heavyweights like the Porsche Macan EV and Tesla Model X.

Design Language

The Eletre's exterior takes styling cues from the multi-million-ringgit Evija electric hypercar, adopting its signature "porosity" philosophy through 7 sets of Race-Aero ducts across the body. Bonnet vents and concealed channels trim aerodynamic drag at the front, while stacked upper and lower flow-through apertures flank the nose and work alongside front wing vents to channel high-speed air, with further aerodynamic gains courtesy of functional D-pillar vents. An active, multi-petal front grille modulates automatically based on vehicle velocity and selected drive mode to optimise aerodynamic drag. Complete with active aero bits—including the front shutter grille, active rear spoiler, and pop-up LiDAR sensors—the SUV boasts an ultra-low drag coefficient of just 0.26Cd alongside up to 90kg of net downforce at speed.

Dimensionally, the SUV measures 5,103mm long, 2,019mm wide, and 1,636mm tall, riding on a 3,019mm wheelbase. It stays true to classic supercar proportions with a 1.24 width-to-height ratio and a 0.5 wheel-to-body height ratio. All 2026 variants roll out on 22-inch 10-spoke forged alloy wheels finished in grey. Stepping inside, the cabin is sculpted around a "feather-light wing" dashboard theme with generous use of skeletal, floating motifs. Carbon fibre trim pieces, supple Nappa leather, and tactile Alcantara upholstery are extensively appointed throughout the interior.

Powertrain and Performance

The 2026 Eletre is available with two distinct powertrain tunes. The 600 and 600 SE variants employ twin permanent magnet synchronous electric motors (AWD), churning out a combined 450kW (612 PS) and 710N·m of peak torque. Meanwhile, the flagship 900 variant raises the stakes to an earth-shattering 675kW (918 PS) and 985N·m. Across the board, power is channeled via a 2-speed transmission, which holds a lower ratio in Sport mode to supply higher torque on demand and maximize launch control off the line.

Straight-line sprints see the 600 variant complete the century dash in 4.5 seconds, while the 900 obliterates 0-100km/h in a mere 2.95 seconds. Top speed is rated at 258km/h for the 600 and stretches to 265km/h on the 900. Juicing the motors is a 112kWh ternary lithium (NMC) battery pack sourced from CATL. Under CLTC testing cycles, the 600 variant yields a driving range of 650km, while the high-output 900 variant returns 560km. Built on a dedicated 800V high-voltage architecture, the SUV supports ultra-fast DC charging at up to 420kW; a brief 5-minute splash delivers 120km of range, while a 10% to 80% top-up takes just 20 minutes. Furthermore, Lotus has rolled out the plug-in hybrid Eletre X (badged "For Me" in China), pairing a 2.0-litre turbo mill with a tri-motor setup to unleash 939 PS and an impressive combined range of over 1,200km.

Chassis and Handling

The chassis underpinnings best encapsulate Lotus's 76-year motorsport heritage. Up front and out back are multi-link independent suspension setups, complemented by an adaptive dual-chamber air suspension offering dynamic stiffness adjustment and -25mm/+50mm of ride height variability, working hand-in-hand with Continuous Damping Control (CDC) active dampers. Lotus's 6D chassis system actively monitors and manages vehicle dynamics across all six degrees of motion. Dynamics are sharpened further with a third-generation 48V active roll control system alongside active rear-wheel steering (with up to 3.5° of rear steering angle), yielding a tight turning radius of merely 5.3m. Stopping power comes from 6-piston fixed front brake calipers on 600/600 SE models, while the 900 steps up to track-grade 10-piston carbon-ceramic brakes. Staggered performance rubber measures 275/35 R23 at the front and 315/30 R23 at the rear.

Cabin and Equipment

Inside, all Eletre models feature a floating 15.1-inch OLED central infotainment display, complemented by dual slimline 12.6-inch full-LCD instrument and passenger strips, backed by a sprawling 29-inch AR-HUD head-up display. Rear occupants are treated to a 9-inch folding command screen. Processing firepower is handled by dual Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 automotive chips running real-time 3D graphics rendered by the Unreal Engine.

In terms of seating, the 600 and 600 SE come standard in a practical 5-seater layout with a boot volume of 688L, expanding to 1,532L with the rear bench folded. The 900 offers an optional, ultra-luxurious 4-seater executive layout boasting 12-way power-adjustable rear captain seats, an executive centre console, and massage functionality. Audiophiles will appreciate the standard 15-speaker KEF Premium audio setup on the 600 variant. Creature comforts comprise 64-colour ambient lighting, Qi wireless smartphone charging, a heated steering wheel, alongside ventilated, heated, and massaging front seats. The 2026 range also introduces fresh, exclusive exterior paint shades and curated cabin themes.

Safety and Advanced Driver Assistance

Passenger safety is well catered for, with the Eletre packing a full complement of driver and front passenger airbags, front side airbags, and full-length curtain airbags spanning front to rear. Active safety systems encompass Lane Departure Warning, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward/Rear Collision Warning, Driver Monitoring Alert, Door Opening Warning (DOW), and Rollover Mitigation.

On the autonomous tech front, the SUV runs the Lotus Hyperlight ADAS suite, catering to high-tier navigation pilot assist in both urban and highway conditions. The hardware array features dual NVIDIA Orin-X computing chips (totaling 508 TOPS of processing power), four deployable LiDAR sensors, 11 HD cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 6 millimetre-wave radars. In March 2026, the Eletre earned international UN R 171.01 regulatory certification from the UNECE, marking it as the first China-built vehicle equipped with highway pilot assist to secure this approval in Europe. This pilot capability is slated for deployment to eligible units via over-the-air (OTA) updates starting June 2026. The driving suite also features full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Centring Assist (LCA), Lane Change Assist, Auto Parking Assist (APA), Remote Parking, and Memory Parking Assist.

Market Performance and Verdict

The Eletre has drawn considerable attention across global markets since its launch. Retaining its purposeful styling inside and out, the 2026 model-year update focuses on equipment enhancements, trickling down high-end chassis hardware—including active anti-roll bars, rear-axle steering, the intelligent chassis controller, and carbon-ceramic anchors—further down the range. The 2026 iteration officially rolled out in September 2025 priced from RM558,000 to RM838,000. Adding to its prestige, King Charles III of the United Kingdom reportedly took delivery of an Eletre.

In road tests, motoring journalists have heralded the Eletre as an "uncompromised performance monster engineered for driving purists", with its razor-sharp track heritage and blistering acceleration acting as its primary draws, though real-world range, pliant ride suppleness, and brand cachet might prompt second thoughts among conventional luxury buyers. As a defining milestone in Lotus's green pivot, the Eletre marries supercar-level punch, circuit-honed dynamics, and cutting-edge tech, successfully carving out a unique niche that bridges pure driver involvement with daily SUV practicality in the RM1,000,000 EV arena.
