Livan Blue Balloon

2026-10-07 00:10:00

The Livan Blue Balloon is an A00-segment all-electric micro car by Livan Auto, officially launched on 13 September 2025. Previously known during development as the "Blue Smurf", the vehicle was ultimately christened the "Blue Balloon". The lineup is offered in two variants: Dynamic Edition and Enjoyable Edition, priced officially at RM46,900 and RM50,900 respectively, with an introductory limited-time launch price starting from RM42,900. Subsequently, a promotional campaign further reduced the starting price to RM39,900. Serving as Livan Auto's debut entry into the micro EV market, the Blue Balloon is tailored for urban short-distance commuting, built around the universal appeal concept of "loved by the whole family, fun for everyone to drive", targeting key rivals such as the Wuling Hongguang MINIEV, Changan Lumin, and Chery QQ Ice Cream.

Design Language

On the exterior, the Livan Blue Balloon features an adorable "boxy" silhouette inspired by an "energetic sprite" design philosophy. The front fascia adopts a closed-off grille with the charging flap neatly concealed behind the brand emblem; flanked by twin circular "cute-eye" headlamp clusters above two smaller round auxiliary lamp units, creating a playful four-lamp cartoonish look. The front bumper is finished with retro silver trim, injecting a dash of ruggedness into its cute persona. The side profile adopts a 2-door, 4-seater layout, fitted with 14-inch windmill-styled wheels wrapped in 155/65 R14 tyres; both front and rear fenders feature pronounced wheel arch mouldings for a wider visual stance. The rear styling remains clean and minimalist, complemented by C-shaped or rounded-rectangular tail lamp clusters. In terms of dimensions, the car measures 3,100 mm in length, 1,558 mm in width, and 1,610 mm in height, with a 2,015 mm wheelbase. Exterior colour choices include four solid paint finishes: Ocean Blue, Peach Pink, Grass Green, and Cloud White, alongside an optional Ocean Blue and White dual-tone scheme. Inside, the cabin is equipped with an integrated 9.2-inch full LCD digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch floating central infotainment screen, paired with a two-spoke multifunction steering wheel and a rotary gear selector. The interior palette offers three two-tone combinations: Sakura Pink, Castle Grey, and Forest Green, each paired with white accents.

Powertrain Performance

The Livan Blue Balloon is driven by a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor (model TZ160X30C), delivering a maximum output of 30 kW and 110 Nm of peak torque. Energy is supplied by a 17.03 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack manufactured by Gotion High-Tech, offering a CLTC-rated pure electric driving range of up to 210 km. For charging, it supports 22 kW DC fast charging, juicing the battery from 30% to 80% state of charge in 30 minutes; standard AC slow charging takes approximately 4.5 hours. The vehicle also comes with a 3-level adjustable regenerative braking system.

Chassis and Handling

In terms of chassis setup, the Blue Balloon rides on a front MacPherson strut independent suspension paired with a rear multi-link non-independent suspension. The rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout—coupled with its compact 3,100 mm body length and short 2,015 mm wheelbase—delivers nimble steering and manoeuvrability, making navigating narrow city streets and parking in tight spots effortless. The braking system is equipped with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). Tyre specification is rated at 155/65 R14.

Cabin and Equipment

Inside, the Blue Balloon adopts a 2+2 four-seater configuration. The rear bench seat folds down as a whole, expanding boot capacity from standard volume up to 800 litres. The cabin features 11 dedicated storage compartments alongside thoughtful utility hooks. The infotainment system supports voice control, mobile app remote vehicle management, Bluetooth key, and smartphone connectivity. The seats adopt an ergonomic "comfort-hug" design for tailored support. In terms of equipment, core specifications are identical across both the Dynamic Edition and Enjoyable Edition, with the primary distinction lying in charging provisions: the Dynamic Edition comes with a portable 3-pin charging cable, whereas the Enjoyable Edition includes a 7 kW AC wallbox home charger along with installation services.

Safety and Driver Assistance

On the safety front, the Blue Balloon is constructed around a high-strength cage body structure with 51.28% high-strength steel, featuring side impact crash beams with a tensile strength exceeding 1,300 MPa; the roof panel is assembled using laser welding. Standard safety kit across the lineup includes dual front airbags, rear parking sensors with a reverse camera, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), and full-LED headlamps. Its EV powertrain components share core technology with Geely for proven reliability. However, it is worth noting that the vehicle is not equipped with Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) or higher-tier active driver aids.

Market Outlook and Evaluation

The Livan Blue Balloon represents Livan Auto's strategic debut offering in the A00-segment micro EV category. Its headline selling points include a 210 km range well-suited for daily urban commuting, standard DC fast charging (a rarity in this price bracket), responsive rear-wheel-drive handling, a dual-screen cabin setup (9.2-inch + 8-inch), and standard dual front airbags. Nevertheless, compared to heavyweight rivals such as the Wuling Hongguang MINIEV and Changan Lumin, the Blue Balloon still faces hurdles in brand recognition and dealership network footprint. Furthermore, the absence of ESP and advanced driver-assistance systems remains a shortcoming. On the whole, with its "stylish, easy-to-drive, and practical" positioning, the Livan Blue Balloon enters the RM40,000-bracket micro EV market as an appealing, characterful, and pragmatic choice for urban city commuters.
