Land Rover Range Rover Evoque PHEV

2026-10-10 17:40:00

The Land Rover Range Rover Evoque Plug-in Hybrid (Range Rover Evoque PHEV) is the electrified derivative of Jaguar Land Rover’s (JLR) mid-size luxury SUV. The China-market version is the Range Rover Evoque L P300e, locally assembled by Chery Jaguar Land Rover, representing the sole new energy vehicle (NEV) offering within the Evoque line-up.

Model Overview

Positioned as a mid-size luxury plug-in hybrid SUV, the Evoque PHEV highlights signature British styling, trademark Land Rover all-terrain capability, and low running costs courtesy of its PHEV powertrain. Featuring a five-seater cabin layout, the China-spec long-wheelbase version measures 4,531 mm in length, 1,904 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height, with a 2,841 mm wheelbase. The official recommended retail price is RM429,800. In cities with vehicle registration quota systems, the model qualifies for purchase tax exemptions and complimentary green energy vehicle number plates. Overseas markets also receive standard-wheelbase variants alongside special editions such as the Curated Edition.

Design Language

Styling-wise, the Evoque PHEV closely mirrors its pure petrol counterparts, carrying over the Range Rover family's hallmark design cues. Up front, it sports a honeycomb radiator grille flanked by Matrix LED headlights, complemented by a front bumper with dense mesh detailing. Along the sides, the most distinctive elements are the flush deployable door handles and blacked-out A, B, C, and D-pillars that create a floating roof aesthetic, while an upward-sweeping waistline paired with large-diameter alloy wheels lends a strong athletic stance. At the rear, slim LED tail lamps echo the front lighting signature, and the rear apron’s diffuser design with faux exhaust finishers accentuates its sporty character. Inside, the cabin embraces a minimalist aesthetic, featuring a dual-tone leather-wrapped steering wheel and dashboard. The seats showcase a fresh diamond-quilted, perforated pattern, with higher-spec variants gaining an extended Windsor leather interior pack.

Powertrain and Performance

At the heart of the Evoque PHEV lies a plug-in hybrid powertrain combining a 1.5-litre turbocharged three-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine with a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor. The petrol engine delivers a maximum power of 147 kW (200 PS), while the electric motor produces 80 kW (109 PS). Together, the system delivers a combined total output of 227 kW (309 PS) and a peak torque of 540 Nm. Power is channelled through an 8-speed automatic gearbox, delivering a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 6.4 to 7.0 seconds. Energy is stored in a 13.1 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery pack (supplied by CATL), providing an all-electric range of 56 km under the NEDC cycle and 62 km under the CLTC cycle. Combined fuel consumption under the WLTC cycle is rated as low as 1.9-2.0 L/100 km. For charging, DC fast charging takes just 30 minutes to replenish the battery from 0% to 80%, while standard AC charging takes around 2.05 hours. The traction battery is backed by an 8-year or 160,000-km warranty.

Chassis and Handling

The Evoque PHEV is built on a monocoque chassis, underpinned by a front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link independent suspension setup. An on-demand all-wheel-drive system (electric AWD) comes standard across the range. When tackling tough terrain, the vehicle relies on Land Rover's renowned Terrain Response 2 system, offering five selectable terrain modes plus an automatic mode. Off-road prowess is further bolstered by All-Terrain Progress Control (ATPC), Torque Vectoring by Braking (TVBB), and Hill Descent Control (HDC). It boasts a maximum wading depth of 600 mm.

Cabin and Features

In terms of cockpit technology, the Evoque PHEV is fitted with a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and an 11.4-inch floating curved touchscreen display. Infotainment duties are driven by the latest Pivi Pro 2 system powered by a Qualcomm SA8155P processor, supporting voice control, wireless Apple CarPlay and Baidu CarLife connectivity, over-the-air (OTA) updates, and a 360-degree camera feed. Cabin comforts include tri-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic sliding sunroof, wireless smartphone charging, and a powered tailgate. Audio is handled by a standard 12-speaker Meridian sound system, with top-spec variants upgraded to a 15-speaker surround sound setup. Higher-grade models also offer ventilated and heated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, and a 360-degree surround-view monitor.

Safety and Intelligent Driving

The Evoque PHEV comes standard with an L2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite across all variants. Key features include: Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Blind Spot Assist (BSA), and Rear Collision Monitor. Parking convenience is handled by front and rear parking sensors and a reverse camera, while top-spec variants add a 360-degree surround-view camera and automated park assist. For passive safety, the vehicle is equipped with driver and front passenger airbags, front side airbags, full-length curtain airbags, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Dynamic vehicle safety is managed by Dynamic Stability Control (DSC), Electronic Traction Control (ETC), and Roll Stability Control (RSC). In international markets, the model was awarded a five-star ANCAP safety rating.

Market Performance and Evaluation

The Evoque PHEV faced noticeable market headwinds in China, culminating in the discontinuation of local sales by June 2026. Showrooms currently focus primarily on pure petrol variants (2.0T paired with a 48V mild-hybrid system). Dealerships previously offered substantial discounts—with the PHEV’s official list price of RM429,800 dropping to around RM260,000 on the showroom floor. In overseas markets, Land Rover introduced the Evoque PHEV Curated Edition in Japan in January 2025, bumping its WLTC electric range up to 65.1 km. The 2026 facelift model has also debuted in the UK, carrying a starting price of around £40,080 (approximately RM365,800). Automotive reviews highlight that the Evoque PHEV retains strong appeal in its design flair and genuine all-terrain capability, with an all-electric range sufficient for daily commutes and impressive overall fuel economy. However, its 56-km pure electric range fails to stand out in an increasingly competitive plug-in hybrid segment. As a distinctive blend of British luxury design and plug-in hybrid technology, the Range Rover Evoque PHEV maintains a unique chapter in Land Rover's electrification journey.
