Model Overview

The LEVC TX is a mid-size new energy MPV developed by the London Electric Vehicle Company (LEVC) under Geely Holding Group, marketed in China as the Geely Yizhen TX5. First launched in the UK in 2018, the model made its official debut in the Chinese market in 2022, offering six variants with a price tag ranging from RM339,800 to RM359,800. The MPV measures 4,866 mm in length, 1,945 mm in width, and 1,880 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,986 mm. The TX is available in 5-seater and 7-seater configurations, with the 7-seater variant featuring a unique "1+3+3" layout that deletes the front passenger seat to maximise luggage capacity. Serving as a modernised, fully electrified iteration of London’s iconic Black Cab, the vehicle underpins LEVC’s strategic transition into a zero-carbon mobility technology brand within the Geely ecosystem.

Design Language

The exterior styling of the TX pays homage to more than 70 years of iconic London Black Cab design heritage. Up front, it features a retro rectangular grille flanked by large round headlamps, delivering a distinctive and instantly recognisable retro aesthetic. The roof-mounted LED indicator lamp is a contemporary take on the classic London "TAXI" roof sign. Along the sides, it retains the signature rear-hinged coach doors (suicide doors), making ingress and egress remarkably effortless for passengers. The rear is fitted with vertical LED tail lamp clusters that maintain styling continuity with its historic predecessors. Inside, the 2025 TX sports an asymmetrical wraparound dashboard layout highlighted by a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster, an 11.8-inch central touchscreen, and a four-way manually adjustable steering wheel. In terms of materials, mid-to-high-spec variants receive a leather-wrapped steering wheel and synthetic leather upholstery, creating a clean and functional cabin ambience.

Powertrain & Performance

The LEVC TX offers both pure electric (BEV) and range-extended (REEV) powertrain options, with all variants adopting a rear-mounted single-motor layout. The BEV version is driven by a 120 kW (163 PS) permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 240 Nm of peak torque, paired with a 66.6 kWh ternary lithium battery pack to achieve a CLTC electric range of 410 km. The REEV version adds a 1.5T three-cylinder petrol engine acting purely as a range extender alongside the same electric motor; the engine also produces a maximum power of 120 kW and is paired with a 26 kWh ternary lithium battery pack, providing an NEDC pure electric range of 105 km. Both versions share an identical top speed of 130 km/h. In terms of total driving range, the REEV model uses engine-generated power to deliver a combined range of over 600 km, effectively eliminating range anxiety. Real-world user feedback in China shows a WLTC combined fuel consumption of around 1.5 L/100 km for the REEV version, highlighting substantial operating cost efficiency for both daily electric commuting and long-haul journeys.

Chassis & Handling

Underneath, the TX rides on an all-round independent suspension setup comprising front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link system. The rear multi-link suspension positions the spring seats as close to the wheel hubs as possible, achieving a suspension motion ratio of 0.675—a 25% improvement over the segment average—which substantially bolsters rear-axle load-bearing capacity and high-speed stability. The steering utilizes an electro-hydraulic power steering setup, delivering a weighted and reassuring steering feel. Thanks to its rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) layout and well-balanced weight distribution, the TX displays confident tracking stability during highway cruising and sudden lane-change manoeuvres. However, with an output of 163 PS, acceleration feels noticeably blunted when carrying a full load of seven occupants, requiring drivers to plan ahead with longer overtaking margins at highway speeds. The suspension is tuned distinctly for comfort, pliant enough to absorb road surface imperfections smoothly, matching the ride-comfort expectations of corporate transfers and family outings.

Cabin & Features

The TX cabin is thoughtfully tailored for practical day-to-day usability. Standard appointments include a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster and an 11.8-inch central touchscreen infotainment unit supporting 4G connected services, OTA updates, voice command, Bluetooth connectivity, and real-time navigation. Higher-spec variants add premium additions such as facial recognition and a 360-degree surround-view camera system. Cabin seating is a headline feature: the 7-seater adopts a 1+3+3 seating arrangement featuring three rear-facing foldable jump seats behind the driver and three dedicated seats in the third row, allowing a face-to-face lounge layout suited for on-the-go business discussions when stationary; the kerbside second-row seat also swivels outward to assist passengers with limited mobility. The second-row standalone seats feature electric adjustment as standard, while mid-to-high-spec models gain seat heating and powered driver's seat adjustment. In addition, dual-zone automatic climate control, rear air conditioning vents, and onboard charging ports come standard across the range, complemented by a fixed panoramic glass roof that enhances interior airiness.

Safety & Intelligent Driving

The LEVC TX is engineered around rigorous international safety benchmarks; its Space Oriented Architecture (SOA) is designed to meet dual Euro NCAP and C-NCAP five-star safety crash standards across occupant protection, pedestrian safety, child protection, and active safety systems. On the active safety front, the TX is fitted with Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control System (TCS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), and ABS. Passive safety includes a driver’s airbag as standard, with mid-to-high-spec variants adding front side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags. Its driver assistance package offers Level 1 capabilities, encompassing full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), and a 360-degree camera; safety alerts such as Lane Departure Warning and Forward Collision Warning are specifically calibrated to suit high-frequency e-hailing duty cycles. Furthermore, the cabin incorporates a CN95 automotive-grade air filtration system that effectively traps fine particulate matter and exhaust pollutants.

Market Performance & Reception

The LEVC TX has delivered commendable results across global markets. Since its international launch in 2018, cumulative worldwide deliveries have exceeded 11,000 units with over 1 billion fleet miles logged, securing a commanding market share of over 60% in London's taxi fleet to become the UK capital's quintessential Black Cab. The model reached its delivery peak in 2022, with 2,508 units handed over that year. In China, sales growth has maintained a steady trajectory, with registration data in the Nanjing region recording consistent monthly figures of between 49 and 60 units. User sentiment highlights high marks for its seating versatility, low running costs, and plush ride quality, though owners frequently point out modest full-load powertrain performance and relatively dated in-car smart tech. Industry commentators view the TX as an accomplished modern successor to the heritage London Black Cab, delivering unique cultural cachet alongside practical commercial value through its globalised footprint, dual-powertrain flexibility, and wheelchair-friendly accessibility.
