The Hyundai IONIQ 6 is the second production model under Hyundai's all-electric IONIQ sub-brand, positioned as an all-electric D-segment sedan. The EV made its global debut at the Busan Motor Show in South Korea on 14 July 2022, followed by its first appearance in China at the China International Import Expo in November 2022. As the flagship sedan of the IONIQ portfolio, the IONIQ 6 has carved out a distinct identity in the global electric sedan market courtesy of its ultra-sleek "Electrified Streamliner" styling, dedicated E-GMP electric architecture, and 800V ultra-fast charging capabilities.

Positioned as an all-electric four-door fastback sedan, the IONIQ 6’s key selling points centre on its extreme aerodynamics, generous cabin space and dynamic handling courtesy of the dedicated E-GMP platform, as well as 800V ultra-high-voltage fast charging. Featuring a 5-door, 5-seater layout, the EV measures 4,925 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, riding on a 2,950 mm wheelbase. In April 2025, the IONIQ 6 received a mid-life facelift featuring an optional N Line styling pack and a larger 84 kWh battery pack that elevates the WLTP range to 700 km, starting from 48.56 million KRW (around RM250,000) in South Korea. The high-performance IONIQ 6 N subsequently made its world premiere at the Goodwood Festival of Speed on 10 July 2025.
Drawing inspiration from the Prophecy Concept EV, the exterior styling of the IONIQ 6 embodies the "Electrified Streamliner" design ethos. The facelifted model introduces the "Pure Flow, Refined" design theme, honing every contour and subtle detail. Up front, it sports a semi-enclosed grille paired with split LED headlamp assemblies—slim daytime running lights (DRLs) featuring parametric pixel graphics sit on top, while the low and high beam projectors are positioned lower on the bumper flanks. Distinctive design cues include a low-slung "shark nose" front profile and an integrated "ducktail" rear spoiler. Thanks to active air flaps, active front bumper ducts, and a fully flat underbody cover, the vehicle boasts a remarkably low drag coefficient of just 0.21 Cd, placing it among the most aerodynamically efficient production cars globally. The sportier N Line variant gains an exclusive aero kit, wider bodywork, and larger front air intakes.
Inside, the cabin embraces the "Mindful Cocoon" philosophy, prioritising occupant comfort and emotional well-being. The facelifted iteration is equipped with dual 12.3-inch curved panoramic displays running the next-gen ccNC (connected car Navigation Cockpit) operating system, a three-spoke flat-bottom multi-function steering wheel, and a column-mounted electronic shift-by-wire stalk. The redesigned centre console reintroduces several tactile physical buttons and rotary dials for improved ergonomics on the move. Extensive use of sustainable and recycled materials throughout the interior reinforces Hyundai’s "Ethical Uniqueness" green commitment. For enhanced accessibility, the four-door power window switches have been relocated to the driver's door armrest.
Underpinned by the dedicated E-GMP platform, the IONIQ 6 offers diverse powertrain setups. The single-motor rear-wheel-drive (RWD) option comes in two tunes: the standard variant puts out 151 PS with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 8.8 seconds, while the long-range model delivers 228 PS, completing the century sprint in 7.4 seconds. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant churns out a combined 325 PS and 605 Nm of torque, achieving 0-100 km/h in 5.1 seconds.
The range-topping IONIQ 6 N performance model boasts an AWD dual-motor setup delivering a colossal 641 hp (478 kW), hitting 0-100 km/h in a blistering 3.2 seconds. This flagship performance model is slated for its official debut in the Chinese market in 2026.
Battery capacity options include 53 kWh, 63 kWh, 77.4 kWh, and 84 kWh packs. On the WLTP cycle, the 84 kWh RWD Long Range model delivers a driving range of between 680 km and 700 km. An 800V ultra-fast electrical architecture comes standard across the range; hooked up to a 350 kW DC fast charger, a 10% to 80% state of charge (SoC) takes just 18 minutes. The vehicle also features standard Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability (1.9–3.6 kW) to power external electrical appliances.
The IONIQ 6 is built upon Hyundai Motor Group’s dedicated E-GMP architecture. With the battery pack positioned flat across the floorpan, it achieves an optimal 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution alongside an exceptionally low centre of gravity. The suspension setup comprises front MacPherson struts and a rear five-link independent suspension, paired with high-performance frequency-selective dampers on all four corners. Steering duties are handled by a rack-mounted motor-driven power steering (R-MDPS) system.
Standard kit includes a Dynamic Torque Vectoring Control system that dynamically modulates torque split between the front and rear motors while gently braking the inner wheels during hard cornering to maximise cornering grip. Dual-motor AWD variants feature a Disconnector Actuator System (DAS), which automatically decouples the front motor during cruising to improve overall energy efficiency. Drivers can select from four drive modes—ECO, Comfort, Sport, and Snow—alongside configurable parameters for steering weight, motor response, and accelerator sensitivity. Top speed is electronically capped at 185 km/h.
The IONIQ 6 cockpit comes standard with dual 12.3-inch digital displays (a fully digital instrument cluster and a central infotainment touchscreen) integrated with the latest ccNC infotainment system. It supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, cloud-based navigation, and full-vehicle Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates. In selected markets, Digital Side Mirrors (DSM) are available, projecting high-definition camera feeds onto dedicated interior corner displays.
Creature comforts include dual-zone automatic climate control, a wireless smartphone charging pad, and ventilated/heated front seats. Cargo capacity stands at 401 litres in the rear boot, supplemented by a front boot (frunk) offering 45 litres on RWD versions and 14.5 litres on AWD variants.
Safety is well-catered for with a comprehensive suite of active and passive systems. Passive protection includes an array of airbags and a high-tensile crash structure. Active safety is spearheaded by the complete Hyundai SmartSense Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) suite, bundling Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), and Driver Attention Warning (DAW), providing robust Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capabilities. Facelifted variants benefit from upgraded Matrix LED headlamps with finer light-segmentation for improved night-time visibility. Additionally, the Smart Regenerative Braking System 3.0 offers seamless adaptive single-pedal driving functionality.
The IONIQ 6 has recorded strong sales momentum globally, chalking up 37,446 bookings on its first day of launch. As of April 2026, cumulative global deliveries of the IONIQ nameplate have crossed the 550,000-unit milestone. The introduction of the facelifted model with an 84 kWh battery and the N Line variant has further sharpened its market appeal.
In China, the IONIQ 6 made its official premiere at the 2022 CIIE, with the high-performance IONIQ 6 N scheduled to officially arrive in 2026. Automotive motoring media have widely praised the IONIQ 6 for its slippery 0.21 Cd aerodynamics, rapid 800V charging, and impressive WLTP range of up to 700 km. While its streamliner fastback styling remains a talking point in terms of aesthetics, its real-world touring range and efficiency have won widespread acclaim.
As the flagship sedan of the IONIQ family, the IONIQ 6 not only highlights Hyundai's engineering prowess in the E-GMP architecture, ultra-fast charging, and aerodynamics, but also stands as a key pillar spearheading Hyundai Motor Group’s global electrification push.
