Haval F7x

2026-09-24 03:10:00

The Haval F7x is the first coupe SUV launched in 2019 by Great Wall Motor's Haval brand. As a key model under Haval's youth-centric "F-Series" strategy, the F7x merges a fastback profile with SUV practicality, aiming to entice younger, style-conscious buyers through its distinctive coupe silhouette and smart tech features.

Model Overview

Positioned as a compact coupe SUV, the Haval F7x features a highly distinctive fastback roofline as its core design cue, having once been a mainstream standout in the domestic coupe SUV segment.

Market positioning: Coupe SUV, youth-oriented positioning, smart interactive connectivity, high-performance powertrain.

Design & Dimensions: Measuring 4,620 mm long, 1,846 mm wide, and 1,660 mm tall with a 2,725 mm wheelbase, the exterior adopts the "i-Home Platform" design language highlighted by a starry-mesh front grille. Inside, a wraparound cockpit layout accentuates a modern, sporty atmosphere.

Core Strengths: Driven by a "style + performance + tech" three-pronged strategy, the F7x initially plugged Haval's gap in the coupe SUV niche, serving as a platform to showcase Great Wall Motor's digitalisation and sportier chassis tuning capabilities.

Development History

Origins: Amid a shifting trend towards younger car buyers, Great Wall Motor repurposed the proven Haval F7 platform by restyling the roofline to create the F7x, aiming to carve out a sporty niche in the fiercely contested compact SUV segment.

Key Milestones:

2019: The F7x officially made its market debut as a high-performance coupe SUV, swiftly garnering widespread attention.

2020–2022: Underwent multiple model-year updates, largely focusing on upgrading the Fun-Life 2.0/3.0 infotainment system and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to enhance cabin tech.

Present Day (2026): Moving into 2026, Haval has fully pivoted its strategic focus towards its "Dragon Series" (such as Menglong) and dedicated New Energy Vehicle (NEV) lineups (such as Xiaolong). The F7x has reached the tail end of its product lifecycle and is being phased out of mainstream sales. Nevertheless, as GWM's pioneering venture into ICE coupe SUVs, it still commands decent residual value in the used car market.

Market Performance

Competitive Landscape: During its peak run, the F7x competed head-to-head against rivals like the Changan CS85 COUPE and Geely Xingyue. It enjoyed considerable commercial success, gaining strong traction particularly among young buyers in second- and third-tier cities.

Owner Feedback: Owners widely commend its punchy powertrain (2.0T variant) and sleek coupe silhouette. However, with the rapid rise of BEV and PHEV coupe SUVs, the inherent limitations of traditional ICE coupe SUVs in fuel economy and infotainment tech have become more glaring, squeezing its market presence substantially by 2026.

Core Technologies

Powertrain Architecture: Powered by either a 1.5T or 2.0T turbocharged petrol engine paired with a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The 2.0T variant pushed out 165 kW of maximum power, delivering punchy 0–100 km/h acceleration that served as the performance anchor for the lineup.

Smart Connectivity: Fitted with Haval’s intelligent connectivity system, featuring voice control, telematics, and over-the-air (OTA) updates, putting it at the technological forefront of the compact SUV segment at the time.

Driver Assistance: Offers Level 2 ADAS capabilities, including Traffic Jam Assist (TJA), full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Lane Departure Warning (LDW), effectively bolstering long-distance driving safety.

Chassis & Suspension: Equipped with front MacPherson struts and rear double-wishbone independent suspension, tuned with a sportier, handling-focused setup to deliver the high-speed composure expected of a coupe SUV.

Future Plans

As of 2026, Great Wall Motor has shifted the F7x lineup to a "service continuation" phase. With Haval's full transition towards electrification, the F7x will no longer receive major facelifts or technical overhauls. The brand's primary focus now centres on ensuring long-term aftersales parts availability for existing owners, while applying the chassis tuning know-how and digital data gained from the F7x to its latest generation of electrified SUVs.
