Hanlong Auto is a Chinese independent automobile brand, affiliated with Hubei Daye Hanlong Automobile Co., Ltd. The company was founded on January 7, 2016, headquartered in Daye City, Hubei Province, with a registered capital of 1 billion RMB and a total investment of 11 billion RMB. As a complete vehicle manufacturing enterprise closely linked to Niute Group (the parent company of Zotye Auto), Hanlong Auto adheres to the business philosophy of "Style and Affordability," positioning itself in the high cost-performance mid-to-large SUV market. It once hoped to quickly open up the market with a single model, but eventually fell into a complete standstill in 2021 due to poor sales.

The predecessor of Hanlong Auto was a branch factory and supplier of Zotye Auto. Relying on the full-process manufacturing capabilities accumulated over years of processing for Zotye—including stamping, welding, painting, and final assembly workshops—it seized the opportunity to register as an independent complete vehicle manufacturing company in 2016. The company occupies a 1,200 mu factory area. Phase I invested 6 billion RMB in factory construction and equipment procurement, while Phase II invested 5 billion RMB in R&D for core components such as engines, wheels, subframes, and seats. Product planning once covered multiple fields, including SUVs, MPVs, sedans, and new energy vehicles.
In November 2019, Hanlong Auto officially launched its first and only mass-produced model—the mid-to-large SUV "Hanlong Kuangshi," with a price range of 159,800 to 243,800 RMB, totaling eight models. However, due to excessive copying of the Land Rover Range Rover Sport's appearance, the "copycat" label ran deep, and the new car failed to gain market recognition after launch. From March 2020 onward, monthly sales of the Kuangshi dropped to zero for consecutive months. On November 30, 2020, Hubei Daye Hanlong Automobile Co., Ltd. issued an internal notice announcing a work stoppage and production halt across the entire company. Afterward, Hanlong Auto entered a long-term standstill, with no new models launched.
Hanlong Auto's product matrix was extremely thin, launching only one mass-produced model during its six-year existence.
Hanlong Kuangshi (2020 Model): The brand's flagship product, positioned as a mid-to-large SUV. Body dimensions are length 4,985 mm, width 1,995 mm, height 1,819 mm, and wheelbase 2,997 mm. Available in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive versions, all equipped with a 2.0T turbocharged engine paired with a German ZF 8-speed automatic transmission. All models came standard with front double-wishbone independent suspension and rear multi-link independent suspension, significantly outperforming competitors at the same price point. The official offer included a 4-year or 150,000 km whole vehicle warranty.
Planned Models (Not Mass-Produced): The brand had previously announced a compact SUV, the "Hanlong SAGA," but the car remained in the planning stage and was never actually put into production.
Hanlong Auto suffered a total wipeout in the market. According to public data, its only mass-produced model, the "Hanlong Kuangshi," sold only 197 units in the year after its launch. In September 2020, it had a situation where monthly sales were zero. Before the production halt, total sales were under 200 units. Calculating the amortization cost of the 11 billion RMB total investment divided by the extremely low sales of 197 units, the cost per vehicle reached approximately 55.83 million RMB, jokingly dubbed by netizens as "the most expensive domestic car in history."
Hanlong Auto's biggest technical highlight was its willingness to stack industry-leading hardware configurations into its only product, regardless of cost.
Chassis and Suspension: Equipped with an aerospace-grade all-aluminum chassis tuned by Magna. Compared to traditional cast iron materials, it offers significant advantages such as lightweight, high comfort, and corrosion resistance, standing out among domestic cars at the same price point. The matching front double-wishbone independent suspension and rear H-arm multi-link independent suspension system deliver handling performance comprehensively better than conventional MacPherson suspension.
Transmission: Equipped with a German ZF 8AT automatic transmission, offering quick, smooth shifts and high transmission efficiency. This made the Hanlong Kuangshi one of the few domestic independent brand models equipped with such a luxury configuration.
Self-developed Powertrain: Equipped with an internally coded TN4A20TDZ 2.0T direct-injection turbocharged engine (self-produced by Hanlong Engine Co., Ltd.), with maximum power of 160 kW (218 hp) and peak torque of 370 N·m. The engine has a longitudinal layout and meets China VI emission standards.
Intelligent Configurations: All models came standard with an all-time intelligent self-diagnosis system, supporting 5G upgrades, mobile remote control, and connected car online services, meeting basic intelligent connectivity needs.
Hanlong Auto once reached component procurement cooperation agreements with global top suppliers such as Bosch, Tenneco, ZF, and Magna, and included overseas markets in its planning as target areas. However, due to the main model's immediate market failure after launch, the brand never achieved actual sales overseas.
Hanlong Auto has substantially ceased to exist since work stopped at the end of 2020. Asset disposal information from 2024 indicates the brand has entered the bankruptcy liquidation procedure at the legal level. Its factory and production qualifications in Daye, Hubei have become targets for local revitalization of idle assets. As a representative failed brand that rose at the tail end of the "copycat style" car-making wave, Hanlong Auto—with the huge contrast between over 10 billion RMB in investment and cumulative sales of fewer than 200 units of a single model—has become a typical case of a capital bubble and a historical lesson in China's automotive industry.
