2026-09-20 13:20:00

Model Overview

The Geely Panda is an iconic microcar under the Geely Auto Group. The nameplate was originally introduced on a petrol-powered micro-hatchback in 2008, redefining the perception of Chinese compact cars with its distinctive bionic design and commendable safety credentials. With the automotive industry shifting towards electrification, the Geely Panda was reborn as an all-electric microcar in 2023, officially joining the Geely Galaxy product portfolio and embarking on a fresh lifecycle.

The current 2025 Geely Panda lineup is entirely fully electric, positioned as a "national premium daily runabout" targeted at urban short-distance commutes and the younger buyer demographic. The range comes in several distinct variants, including the adorable Panda mini Yuanqi Xiong, the sporty Panda Karting, and the rugged-styled Panda Knight. All variants offer a CLTC pure electric range of 210 km, with official retail pricing ranging from RM46,900 to RM53,900, while limited-time promotional discounts bring the entry price down to RM44,900. In terms of dimensions, the Panda Karting measures 3,150 mm in length, 1,540 mm in width, and 1,685 mm in height, whereas the Panda Knight comes in at 3,135/1,565/1,655 mm, both sharing a 2,015 mm wheelbase. The lineup features a two-box four-seater layout, with a kerb weight of approximately 815 kg.

Design Language

Styling-wise, the Geely Panda takes heavy inspiration from the giant panda, giving it a distinctive identity in the Chinese microcar segment. Up front, it features a closed-off grille flanked by round LED headlamps encircled by black surrounds, evoking the panda's iconic "dark eye circles"; at the rear, the tail lamps subtly incorporate panda paw print motifs, forming an eye-catching one-large-four-small lighting layout. For 2025, LED headlamps are now standard across the range, further sharpening its visual signature.

To cater to the diverse tastes of younger buyers, the Panda range is offered in three distinct styling themes:

  • Panda mini Yuanqi Xiong: Retains the bubbly "Panda Pengpeng" silhouette, complemented by 13-inch bamboo leaf-style wheels, a cute rear spoiler, and refreshing pastel hues such as Warm Warm Beige, Bamboo Bamboo Green, and Pupu Pink, delivering a chic and adorable aesthetic.

  • Panda Karting: Drawing cues from go-karts, it sports aerodynamic front and rear bumpers, a prominent rear spoiler, and custom body graphics for a low-slung, purposeful stance. Colour options include Racing Black, Adventure White, and Furious Grey, geared towards sporty trends.

  • Panda Knight: Styled with a "rugged yet cute" design theme, featuring bonnet-mounted grab handles, fluorescent yellow front tow hooks, roof rails, and a side-mounted ladder, exuding a quirky yet tough urban off-road vibe.

Inside, the cabin features a wraparound minimalist layout based on an energetic theme, available in two-tone finishes like Naughty Pink, Playful Green, and Vitality White. It is fitted with a 9.2-inch digital instrument cluster and an 8-inch floating infotainment touchscreen, with a rotary gear selector seamlessly integrated into the centre console. The seats feature ultra-thick 70 mm cushioning and 38 mm high bolsters for an ideal balance of support and comfort. Practicality has also been well thought out, boasting a segment-exclusive phone mount socket on the dashboard and a handy takeaway hook on the front passenger side.

Powertrain and Performance

The Geely Panda is powered by a rear-mounted single permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 30 kW (41 PS) and 110 Nm of torque. With a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) layout, it offers responsive off-the-line acceleration, completing the 0–50 km/h sprint in 5.8 seconds in Sport mode. Top speed is rated at 100 km/h, well suited for city speed limits. Juice is supplied by a 17.03 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, delivering a CLTC electric range of 210 km. The entire range supports 22 kW DC fast charging, taking just 30 minutes from 30% to 80% SoC, while 3.3 kW AC charging requires around 4.5 hours for a full top-up. Selected higher-spec variants also come with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) reverse charging, ideal for outdoor camping activities. Its WLTC combined energy consumption stands at an economical 9.1 kWh/100 km, keeping running costs exceptionally low.

Chassis and Handling

Underneath, the 2025 Geely Panda is underpinned by a front MacPherson strut and rear solid axle non-independent suspension setup. Tuned towards ride comfort, it effectively dampens road imperfections on paved city streets to deliver a composed and stable drive. The electric power steering (EPS) is light yet reassuring, and paired with an ultra-tight 4-metre turning radius, navigating tight alleyways and tight parking spots is effortless. Braking duties are handled by front discs and rear drums, complemented by Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD). Overall, the Panda's chassis setup prioritises urban agility and comfort, perfectly aligned with its role as a city runabout.

Cabin and Equipment

The Geely Panda is equipped with the GKUI smart ecosystem, featuring an 8-inch floating centre screen and a 9.2-inch full LCD instrument display. The infotainment setup supports wireless smartphone mirroring, Bluetooth audio streaming, and satellite navigation. Its onboard voice assistant, triggered by "Hello Geely", handles routine commands like music selection and route guidance without requiring repeated wake-words. Passive keyless entry and walk-away auto-lock come standard across the range—drivers carrying the smart key can simply walk up to unlock the car and drive off without needing a physical key. Via a dedicated smartphone app, owners can remotely operate the air conditioning, lock/unlock doors, pop the boot, and monitor vehicle status—allowing the cabin to be pre-cooled before getting in on hot afternoons. Boot capacity measures 69 litres in standard configuration and expands up to 800 litres with the 50:50 split-folding rear seats down, easily swallowing prams and larger items. A total of 12 practical storage compartments are scattered throughout the interior, maximising cabin utility.

Safety and Driver Assistance

Safety remains a standout attribute of the Geely Panda. Higher variants offer an optional Bosch Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) for added traction and composure on slippery or challenging roads. On the passive safety front, dual front airbags (driver and front passenger) are standard across the board, alongside essentials like ABS, EBD, and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). The body is built around a high-strength cage structure, reinforced with a laser-welded roof and side-impact door beams to offer robust occupant protection. For 2025, front seatbelts with load limiters are standard to mitigate chest trauma during an impact. As for driver aids, a reverse camera and Hill-Start Assist (HSA) come standard across all variants, while upper-trim models add dynamic guidelines for the reverse camera and rear parking sensors to take the stress out of parking.

Market Performance and Verdict

Since its all-electric relaunch in February 2023, the Geely Panda has carved out a commanding presence in the micro-EV segment. In November 2025 alone, monthly sales of the Panda mini hit 17,301 units, maintaining its crown as the bestselling two-door A00-segment EV; by the end of 2025, annual sales surpassed 150,000 units, pushing cumulative sales past the 400,000-unit milestone. The car was also crowned the 2024 NEV Micro/Compact Car Quality Champion, backed by an impressively low defect-complaint record. As of May 2026, total cumulative deliveries have crossed the 650,000-unit mark.

In terms of owner feedback, the Panda has garnered widespread praise for its charming looks (high visual appeal and individuality), nimble handling (tight turning circle and hassle-free parking), and rock-bottom running costs (around RM0.05 per kilometre in electricity). The 210 km range proves dependable for daily commutes, with winter range drop-off remaining well within acceptable limits. Standard fast-charging capability and remote app control have also won strong customer approval. Minor grievances are primarily directed at cabin noise levels at highway speeds (notable wind roar), noticeable new-car plastic odours, and relatively basic cubby spaces in entry-level grades. Nonetheless, with its compelling packaging, budget-friendly price point, and outstanding value proposition, the Geely Panda stands as an undisputed standout in the A00-segment EV arena.
