FAW Jiefang Qingdao Automobile Co., Ltd. was founded in 1968 and is a core wholly-owned subsidiary of Jiefang Automobile under FAW Group. As one of the two main production bases of the Jiefang brand, FAW Jiefang Qingdao and Changchun Jiefang together form the pattern of "Jiefang Trucks, Ruling the World."
The company headquarters is located in Qingdao City, Shandong Province, with over 5,000 employees, and has one branch factory (FAW Jiefang Chengdu Branch). The enterprise has been recognized as the "Chain Master" of Qingdao's intelligent automobile industry chain and is also one of the ten key enterprise groups supported for development in Qingdao City. The brand adheres to the core philosophy of "Customer First," and its main products are "Jiefang Brand" light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks, along with various clean energy and new energy products.
The development history of FAW Jiefang Qingdao is a stirring story of growing from a small local factory into a key Chinese commercial vehicle enterprise.
Period of Hardship and Entrepreneurship (1968–1993): In 1968, in a low-rise building in the northern industrial zone of Qingdao City, Qingdao Automobile Manufacturing Factory was established through a production shift, thereby rewriting the history of Qingdao not producing automobiles. In the early stage of factory construction, the enterprise, relying on a style of "struggle and rapid response," was the first to achieve truck dieselization, making early explorations for the technological progress of China's truck industry.
Joining FAW Group (1993–Present): In 1993, Qingdao Automobile Manufacturing Factory officially joined FAW Group, becoming a member of the FAW family and opening a new chapter of development. In 2011, the FAW Jiefang Qingdao Jimo New Factory was completed and put into production, adopting world-leading manufacturing processes and Asia's most advanced commercial vehicle production lines. In 2024, the FAW Jiefang (Qingdao) Commercial Vehicle Development Academy was unveiled, marking a key step for the enterprise in the field of R&D innovation.
FAW Jiefang Qingdao has built a product matrix covering medium/heavy-duty and light-duty trucks, with full-series and multi-energy capabilities:
Medium and Heavy-Duty Platform (Yingtu, JH6, etc.): This is the foundation and ace of FAW Jiefang Qingdao. Its core flagship product is the JH6 series. Since its launch in 2014, with strong product strength, it has accumulated sales of over 440,000 units and is one of the most classic and reliable models in users' minds. Based on the JH6, in recent years FAW Jiefang Qingdao has launched the new high-end strategic model, the Yingtu series, positioned for the high-efficiency trunk logistics market. In addition, FAW Jiefang Qingdao also possesses five other product platforms, including the Xinda Wei, Han V, JK6, and 2 Long V series, fully covering the four major categories of tractors, cargo trucks, dump trucks, and special vehicles, meeting different transportation needs.
Light-Duty Platform (Lingtu, J6F, Hu V, etc.): The brand also has strong competitiveness in the light commercial vehicle field. It currently owns the "Lingtu" series for the high-end market, the classic "J6F" series, and the economical and practical "Hu V" series. In 2025, the new high-end light truck "Hu 6G" series further enriched the product line, sounding the horn to enter overseas high-end markets.
New Energy and Clean Energy: Facing the "Dual Carbon" strategy, FAW Jiefang Qingdao is actively laying out the new energy track. Its product matrix already covers pure electric, hybrid, CNG (Compressed Natural Gas), and other multiple clean energy and new energy vehicle models, precisely fitting the transportation needs and environmental standards of different regions.
In 2025, FAW Jiefang Qingdao demonstrated strong growth resilience and market competitiveness. According to data, the FAW Jiefang Qingdao Base produced 72,200 complete vehicles in the first half of the year, achieving an output value of 23.849 billion RMB, a year-on-year increase of 9.22%.
Specifically, the core business pillars of FAW Jiefang Qingdao—medium/heavy-duty trucks and light-duty trucks—both achieved steady growth. In the first half of 2025, the brand's cumulative sales reached 32,300 units, and the traditional vehicle market share increased by 0.9 percentage points to 12.1%. The new energy penetration rate increased to 7.2%, achieving double-digit growth. At the start of 2026, FAW Jiefang Qingdao achieved a "Good Start to the New Year" with strong production data of 16,000 complete vehicles and a year-on-year growth of 70%, with a new vehicle rolling off the assembly line every two minutes on average.
FAW Jiefang Qingdao has continuously invested in core technology R&D and intelligent manufacturing capabilities by building a commercial vehicle development academy, building a solid moat:
Intelligence and Smart Manufacturing Capability: The company's Jimo Factory has adopted Asia's most advanced commercial vehicle production lines, integrating a large number of robots, AGVs, intelligent conveying systems, and data traceability systems, achieving automation and transparency of core processes.
Lightweight Technology: Through the application of new materials and new processes, FAW Jiefang Qingdao's main models, such as the JH6, have achieved scientific weight reduction while ensuring structural strength, improving transportation efficiency.
New Energy and Smart Connected Technology: Relying on Qingdao's mature hydrogen energy automobile industry chain, FAW Jiefang Qingdao has deeply deployed hydrogen energy, pure electric, and hybrid technologies. At the same time, centered on big data analysis and smart connected technology, it has deeply integrated the whole vehicle development system with frontier technologies.
Qingdao is the export bridgehead of the Jiefang brand, and FAW Jiefang Qingdao is the core force driving the internationalization strategy of the Jiefang brand. Currently, the Jiefang brand has formed a global R&D layout of "Four Countries, Nine Locations," with exports covering more than 100 countries and regions worldwide.
FAW Jiefang Qingdao recently showed strong growth momentum in overseas markets. From January to April 2026, the production volume of FAW Jiefang Qingdao's light truck exports increased by 46% year-on-year. It has performed particularly well in the Southeast Asian market. In March 2026, 64 "Hu 6G" high-end light trucks arrived in Southeast Asia in batches, successfully opening the door to the Southeast Asian market. Looking ahead, FAW Jiefang has released the "SPRINT2030" internationalization strategy, clearly stating that overseas sales should reach 180,000 units by 2030, with the Qingdao Base serving as the key capacity and R&D support to achieve this goal.
FAW Jiefang Qingdao is accelerating along the path of high-quality development. According to the planning of Jimo District, Qingdao City, in 2026, it will support the FAW Jiefang micro-truck project to achieve full-scale mass production. This marks that FAW Jiefang Qingdao's product line will further expand from the previous medium/heavy-duty and light-duty truck fields into the substantial micro-truck market, with the goal of forming a "full-series" commercial vehicle product line.
In terms of new energy, FAW Jiefang Qingdao will continue to promote the "ALL in" new energy strategy, iterate the "1+N" product series, and accelerate the construction of green intelligent transportation solutions. It can be foreseen that FAW Jiefang Qingdao will seize opportunities in the wave of automotive electrification, intelligence, and connectivity, and with excellent products and innovative technology, let "Made in Qingdao" go further on the international stage.
