In 2026, the brand upgraded to the global brand proposition of "Forging the Future Together."
Tough Start and Birth Period (1953–1956): On July 15, 1953, the First Automobile Works was established in Changchun. On July 13, 1956, the first domestically produced Jiefang brand car, the CA10, was successfully developed and rolled off the assembly line, ending the history of New China not being able to manufacture cars. The term "Jiefang" (Liberation) was personally named by Chairman Mao to celebrate the cause of the liberation of the Chinese people, thus opening the grand blueprint of the Chinese national automotive industry.
First to Second Generation Entrepreneurship Period (1956–1990s): The advent of the Jiefang CA10 filled a gap in China's automotive industry. After multiple technical upgrades in the 1980s, FAW independently developed and produced the second-generation Jiefang CA141 truck, achieving a second wave of entrepreneurship. Later, FAW experienced a third and fourth wave of entrepreneurship with the goal of strengthening and expanding its independent undertaking. Seven generations of classic products were created. Although "Jiefang" is just the name of a truck, every step forward has moved the hearts of FAW employees and even the entire Chinese people.
Marketization Transformation and Product Iteration Period (1990s–2020): After Reform and Opening Up, FAW gradually moved from a planned economic system to a market-oriented modern enterprise. Entering the 21st century, Jiefang successively launched the J5 Aowei, J6, and other heavy truck platforms. Among them, the advent of the J6 platform marked Jiefang's entry into a brand new development stage. The J6 won the "Special Award of China Automotive Industry Science and Technology Award" in 2011 and the "First Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award" in 2020, becoming a "merit platform" for the Jiefang brand.
In May 2020, FAW Jiefang went public through a major asset restructuring, divesting the original passenger car business of FAW Car, focusing its main business on commercial vehicles, and achieving independent operation in the capital market. That year, the self-developed high-end heavy truck J7 was launched on the market in full swing, marking the official entry of the Jiefang brand into the era of high-end intelligent trucks with world-class standards.
New Energy and Globalization Transformation Period (2021 to Present): In 2021, FAW Jiefang launched its "15333" new energy strategy, anchoring the core track of commercial vehicle new energy transformation as a priority, and comprehensively planning the three technical routes of pure electric, hybrid, and fuel cell. In 2024, Jiefang International Company was officially established, systematically promoting the transformation of overseas business from general trade to localization, taking a key step in its globalization layout. In 2025, sales broke through 280,000 units, new energy sales increased by 330.9% year-on-year, and overseas exports achieved a "tenfold growth in six years" leap. The company is anchored on three strategic main lines: "Technology Jiefang, Green Jiefang, International Jiefang," striving to achieve the "Three 100-Billion-Level" goals of brand value exceeding 180 billion RMB, revenue exceeding 100 billion RMB, and market value exceeding 100 billion RMB by 2030.
In 2026, FAW Jiefang clarified four major strategic transformation directions for the "15th Five-Year Plan": transformation from traditional energy to green and low carbon; transformation from domestic leadership to international expansion; transformation from traditional manufacturing to deep integration of new energy and intelligence; and transformation from single product sales to full lifecycle solutions.
