Brand Overview

FAW Jiefang Light Truck is the light commercial vehicle division of FAW Jiefang, the core commercial vehicle brand under China FAW Group Co., Ltd. Known as the "Eldest Son of the National Car" in China's light truck sector, the FAW Jiefang Light Truck brand was officially established in 2003 and is headquartered in Changchun City, Jilin Province. Its production and manufacturing base is located in the Jimo District of Qingdao City, Shandong Province. The brand integrates R&D, manufacturing, and sales, with products covering a wide range of categories including light trucks, small trucks, and new energy vehicles such as pure electric and hybrid models.

In 2021, FAW Jiefang Light Truck followed the industry's green transformation trend and officially released its new energy strategy, accelerating its shift to the new energy track. In April 2022, Jiefang Light Truck Co., Ltd. was established and began operating independently as a light vehicle division. The brand logo features an "Eagle Logo" set within a blue oval frame. The character "汽" is stylized with the number "1" and three strokes resembling eagle wings, symbolizing FAW Jiefang Light Truck soaring like an eagle with unlimited range. After more than 20 years of development, the brand has firmly established itself in the first tier of the light truck industry.

Development History

The history of FAW Jiefang Light Truck dates back to 1983. That year, in order to adapt to product structure adjustments, FAW began developing 1-2 ton light trucks. The following year, the company introduced Japanese Nissan cab technology and continued to expand its light truck lineup. In 2003, the FAW Jiefang Light Truck brand was officially established. That same year, classic products such as the J6F and Tiger V were launched.

After the 2000s, Jiefang Light Truck introduced the J6F and Tiger V as its two major product platforms, carefully creating star models such as the "King" and "Taurus." Market share rose rapidly, and the brand successfully entered the top tier of the industry. In 2021, the brand released a new energy strategy, focusing on pure electric, hybrid, and other new energy products. In 2025, under the guidance of its "ALL in" new energy strategy, FAW Jiefang Light Truck achieved full coverage of multiple technology routes, including pure electric, hybrid (P2, PS, extended range), and hydrogen fuel, marking a transition from traditional vehicle leadership to comprehensive new energy leadership.

FAW Jiefang Light Truck has built four core platforms: Lingtu, Tiger 6G, J6F, and Tiger V. In 2025, it launched the new small truck series "Yitu," completing full scenario coverage from light trucks to small trucks.

Lingtu Series: This is FAW Jiefang Light Truck's high-end new energy flagship platform. In 2025, the brand launched all-new pure electric and hybrid versions with completely redesigned styling, equipped with the Jiefang Smart Power Domain and focused on efficient urban delivery logistics.

Tiger 6G Series: As the brand's flagship star platform, by the end of 2025 it covered pure electric models with multiple battery capacity versions ranging from 82 kWh to 165 kWh, as well as hybrid models adopting P2 and PS hybrid routes. Among them, the pure electric version is equipped with a 96.2 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and offers a CLTC range of 260 to 300 km.

J6F Series: This is FAW Jiefang Light Truck's classic brand, positioned in high-end urban distribution and highway logistics, and has maintained an excellent market reputation for a long time.

Tiger V Series: This series includes the Tiger VR narrow-body models and the Tiger VH wide-body models. The family has a large market presence and is deeply trusted by users.

Yitu Series: Launched as an all-new series in 2025, this marks FAW Jiefang's product line expansion into the small truck segment. It offers 2.5t to 3.5t class pure electric, fuel, and CNG versions, with minimum electricity consumption as low as 15.7 kWh/100 km.

Market Performance

In the first half of 2025, FAW Jiefang light vehicles achieved cumulative sales of 32,300 units. The brand's traditional vehicle market share rose by 0.9 percentage points to 12.1%. New energy terminal sales exceeded 2,500 units, achieving double-digit growth (doubling year over year). In the first half of 2025, the overall share of light vehicles increased by 0.2%, while the brand simultaneously achieved market share growth in four sub-segments: cargo trucks, special hazardous chemical trucks, aerial work vehicles, and new energy.

In the new energy sector, FAW Jiefang Light Truck is actively implementing its "ALL in" new energy strategy, with new energy terminal sales doubling year after year. In terms of technology routes, the brand has achieved full scenario coverage, with comprehensive performance in range, energy consumption, and quality control ranking at the forefront of the industry. Looking ahead to 2026, the overall light truck market is expected to reach 700,000 units (an 8% year-on-year increase). The brand aims to continuously expand its advantages in intense competition through comprehensive strengths in product power, service levels, and global layout.

Core Technologies

The technical system of FAW Jiefang Light Truck relies on the Jiefang Commercial Vehicle R&D platform, forming significant advantages in powertrain, new energy three-electric systems, and system fuel-saving technology.

Fuel-Saving Technology: This is a core energy-saving technology independently developed by FAW Jiefang. Through vehicle-level and component-level collaboration across multiple technology routes, and relying on deeply calibrated matching of fuel-saving engines, fuel-saving transmissions, and fuel-saving rear axles, combined with lightweight and low-drag design, the brand has achieved extreme energy consumption performance.

Powertrain Technology: Traditional fuel products are equipped with Jiefang Power Jingwei CA4DB1 series diesel engines, focusing on lightweight, standard-load city distribution and delivering extreme fuel economy. Pure electric models are equipped with Jiefang's independently developed e-drive axles, providing stable and efficient driving performance.

New Energy Three-Electric Technology: Pure electric products achieve full coverage across light, medium, and heavy load-bearing platforms as well as various battery capacity ranges, with continuous breakthroughs in lightweight battery integration and thermal management technology. Hybrid products cover a full range of industry-standard technology routes, including P2, PS, and extended range. Lightweight Manufacturing: Through the application of new materials, new processes, and new structures, the vehicle is lighter and more stable, directly contributing to efficient energy savings. Quality has improved by 30%, electricity consumption has been reduced by 5 kWh/100 km, achieving a balance between energy efficiency and compliant payload.

Global Presence

FAW Jiefang's overseas light truck business has achieved leapfrog growth for three consecutive years. It broke through 5,000 units in 2023, climbed to 11,000 units in 2024, and exceeded 14,000 units in 2025. From Southeast Asia to Africa, the overseas footprint of Jiefang Light Truck continues to expand. Currently, the brand has formed a "Four Countries, Nine Locations" global R&D layout, with exports covering more than 100 countries and regions worldwide.

The Southeast Asian market is an important engine for Jiefang Light Truck's overseas growth. In the Philippines, FAW Jiefang Light Truck's annual sales have remained steadily above 2,000 units for two consecutive years, making it one of the preferred brands trusted by local users. In March 2026, 64 "Tiger 6G" high-end light trucks were shipped in batches to the Philippines, completing the first batch of deliveries in the Southeast Asian market. In South Africa, sales reached 2,700 units in 2025, a year-on-year increase of 130%. In Myanmar, orders jumped from just over 100 units in 2024 to more than 1,000 units in 2025. In March 2026, the brand secured another large order of 700 units.

Future Outlook

Standing at a new starting point of the "15th Five-Year Plan," FAW Jiefang Light Truck is making focused efforts in product, technology, and marketing. On the product front, the Jimo Base micro-truck project plans to achieve full mass production in 2026, continuously expanding the depth of the product line.
