FAW Bestune Bestune T77 Pro

2026-09-19 14:30:00

The Bestune T77 Pro (Bestune T77 / T77 Pro) is a front-engine, front-wheel-drive (FWD) compact SUV developed by FAW Bestune. Serving as the brand's first strategic core SUV to feature the refreshed "Window of the World" corporate emblem, the model line navigated FAW Bestune's brand transformation phase in its home market before emerging as a key volume driver for FAW Group's overseas expansion via global rebadging and complete vehicle exports.

Model Overview

The Bestune T77 Pro is positioned as an urban premium compact SUV. Within the brand's lineage, it is historically recognised as the "trailblazer of FAW Bestune's new emblem era". Key selling points include its bold, geometric "holographic faceted" exterior styling, an innovative class-first 3D holographic virtual in-car assistant (rendered via holographic projection for interactive digital communication), and well-proportioned cabin packaging. The model primarily targets tech-savvy young urban buyers with a budget between RM100,000 and RM140,000, as well as emerging overseas markets that prioritise value for money and solid manufacturing quality.

Development History

The inception of the Bestune T77 Pro spearheaded FAW Bestune's brand rejuvenation push. The model first debuted in prototype form as the Bestern T-Concept at the April 2018 Beijing Auto Show, followed by the official launch of the production-spec "Bestune T77" at the Guangzhou Auto Show in November of the same year, initially powered by a 1.2-litre turbocharged engine. To offer stronger power reserves, FAW Bestune introduced an upgraded 1.5-litre turbo variant in March 2020, formally naming it the "Bestune T77 Pro".

In 2023, the model line received a comprehensive mid-lifecycle facelift, adopting the brand's latest horizontal full-width radiator grille design. As FAW Group accelerated its global expansion, the Bestune T77 Pro stepped up its international footprint. Beyond bulk exports to the Middle East, Chile, and Central Asia under the "Bestune T77" moniker, it was also briefly slated for a rebadged joint-venture programme with a domestic automotive giant in Russia (initially planned to be rebadged as the Lada X-Cross 5). By the 2025–2026 cycle, as China's domestic compact SUV market aggressively shifted toward plug-in hybrid powertrains, updates for this pure-ICE model slowed down locally, allowing production and lifecycle resources to be redirected toward export markets.

Market Performance

The Bestune T77 Pro reflects contrasting market dynamics locally and abroad. On the domestic front, heightened price competition from tier-one Chinese new energy vehicle (NEV) brands has subdued retail market share for the T77 Pro. In overseas markets, however, the model continues to generate respectable export volumes. Industry showroom data as of 2026 shows that the 2026 Bestune T77 retails across Middle Eastern markets like the UAE and Saudi Arabia within the RM80,500 to RM93,500 AED price band (approximately RM21,900 to RM25,400 USD). Offering a larger footprint than comparably priced foreign B-segment crossovers, along with upmarket dual digital displays and a 5-year/150,000 km manufacturer warranty, it has carved out a solid foothold in the international compact crossover segment.

Core Technology

In terms of exterior dimensions, the Bestune T77 Pro showcases an athletic profile characterised by a high shoulder line and a floating roof design. The SUV measures 4,525 mm in length, 1,845 mm in width, and 1,615 mm in height, riding on a 2,700 mm wheelbase with a kerb weight of roughly 1,515 kg and a standard boot volume ranging from 342 litres to 400 litres.

Powertrain and driveline specifications include:

Engine Technology: The range is primarily powered by FAW's proprietary 1.5-litre inline-four turbocharged petrol engine (internal code CA4GB15TD-30). Featuring high-pressure direct fuel injection, the mill pushes out 124 kW (around 169 PS) and a peak torque of 258 Nm across a wide rev band between 1,300 and 4,350 rpm.

Transmission and Fuel Economy: Power is channelled through a 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (7DCT), with a 6-speed manual gearbox available on select entry-level or market-specific variants. Official top speed is rated at 192 km/h, while combined fuel consumption under standard test cycles is rated between 6.5 L/100 km and 7.1 L/100 km.

Chassis Setup: The model rides on a front-engine, front-wheel-drive (FWD) platform, featuring a conventional front MacPherson strut independent suspension and a rear torsion beam semi-independent setup, tuned with a distinctly firm, European-inspired dynamic profile.

Interior tech is a major highlight, with higher-grade variants packing twin 12.3-inch screens for the full LCD digital instrument cluster and central infotainment touchscreen. Overseas-spec models feature native Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. On the safety front, the SUV comes fitted with six airbags, a 360-degree surround-view monitor, and an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite incorporating Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), and Lane Departure Warning (LDW).

Future Plans

Under FAW Bestune's overarching globalisation roadmap, major lifecycle development for the pure-ICE Bestune T77 Pro platform has transitioned into a steady maintenance phase. Moving forward, core product strategies will centre on localised infotainment ecosystem updates and stringent emission compliance overhauls. While retaining the SUV's structural cabin rigidity, FAW Bestune plans to fine-tune the catalytic converter and thermal management systems to comply with varied overseas emissions and carbon tax regulations. Concurrently, export models will receive improved multi-language voice command recognition and localised navigation services, reinforcing the vehicle's competitive value proposition across increasingly regulated global markets.
