Elektron

2026-06-01 14:40:01

Elektron is not a single brand but refers to two distinct automotive entities. Worldwide, there are two "Elektron" names with high public recognition—one based in Europe, associated with an electric hypercar startup known for "more hype than substance"; the other originates from Southeast Asia and is a new electric brand that is steadily making progress.

German Startup: Elektron Motors

Overview

Elektron Motors GmbH is a startup automotive company originating from Germany. It was founded in July 2017 by Armağan Arabul, an electrical and electronics engineer and race car driver, and is headquartered in Frankfurt am Main. The brand name comes from an ancient city in Turkey, the founder's hometown. The company is positioned as a designer and manufacturer in the hypercar-supersport segment, committed to integrating cutting-edge technology, extreme performance, and environmental concepts to create world-class fully electric drive supercars. Elektron Motors aims to apply technological innovation and racing experience to its mass-produced hypercars, thereby securing a place in the hypercar market.

History

Since its founding in 2017, Elektron Motors has launched its hypercar blueprint planning. In its early stages, the company was known as "Elektron Innovativ."

In 2020, Elektron released renderings of its first work, the Elektron One, officially entering the public eye. Then, in 2021, the company launched two concept models with even more aggressive performance in one go—the Quasar and Truva—although most of these releases remained at the rendering stage.

During this period, Elektron Motors also showed ambition to integrate global top-tier resources, including plans to set up a factory in Italy's "Automotive Valley," and attempted to form an electric formula team named "Scuderia-E" (Formula E).

However, brand development was not smooth. After 2021, its planned 2023 production schedule was not fulfilled. Management at Elektron admitted that after the initial announcement of the Quasar in 2021, the impact of the pandemic forced them to change plans.

Nevertheless, Elektron Motors did not go silent. In 2024, the company announced an R&D partnership with Electra Vehicles, which specializes in AI/ML battery management systems, to advance the electric technology of its "hypercar" vehicles, indicating that it is still conducting technology development work. In early 2026, commercial information platforms still listed it as an active startup on record, and its founder, Armağan Arabul, continues to serve as CEO and CTO.

Product Portfolio

Elektron Motors' products are based entirely on renderings and design drawings. As of Q2 2026, no model has yet been put into mass production. The planned models are all fully electric drive, forming a step-shaped product matrix:

Quasar: The brand's flagship hypercar, benchmarking top performance. The name "Quasar" comes from the astronomical term "quasars," implying that its speed approaches the explosive power of light speed. This car is planned for limited production of 99 units, with each unit priced at approximately 2.2 million Euros.

Truva: Positioned slightly lower than the Quasar hypercar. It is named after an ancient city in Turkey, the hometown of founder Armağan Arabul. The Truva is planned for limited production, priced at approximately 600,000 Euros.

Elektron One: The earliest announced entry-level hypercar by the brand, originally intended as the first mass-production car. It will be launched as a follow-up product after the Quasar and Truva are released.

Market Performance

All models of Elektron Motors are still in the early stages of R&D and have not entered the actual sales link. Its future potential market mainly targets North America, the Middle East, North Africa, and some Eastern European countries. Elektron is also actively looking for dealers in these regions to represent its brand.

Technology and Innovation

Although progress has been slow, a series of technical specifications claimed by Elektron Motors once attracted widespread attention. All models are built on a high-level composite monocoque chassis made of carbon fiber, aramid (Kevlar), and bio-fibers. The suspension system is the push-rod suspension standard for hypercars.

Quasar: Claimed to be driven by four independent motors, forming a four-wheel drive system. Total system power was increased from an initial 2,300 horsepower to over 2,400 horsepower, with wheel torque reaching up to 3,000 Nm. It can be paired with a two-speed transmission and uses a torque vectoring control system to assist handling. The vehicle comes with a battery pack with a capacity of 64.7 kWh and is equipped with an advanced active aerodynamics system.

Truva: Claimed to adopt three-motor drive (dual motors on the rear axle and a single motor on the front axle). Maximum power is approximately 1,400 horsepower, equipped with a battery pack of about 100 kWh.

Philippine Brand: FMC Elektron

Overview

In Southeast Asia, FMC Elektron is a brand new pure electric crossover model planned by Francisco Motors Corporation of the Philippines. The brand points to this traditional manufacturer's independent attempt in the new energy field. FMC's iconic Philippine retro multi-purpose vehicle, the Jeepney, has long been a symbol of the country's public transportation, and the Elektron project is regarded by the company as a clear break with its own traditional image, intended to open up a new passenger car market.

History

The core of the FMC Elektron project is not starting from scratch, but based on an electric vehicle platform that has been verified on actual road conditions for secondary development and brand integration. This move aims to shorten the R&D cycle and reduce technical risks.

Technology and Market Performance

FMC Elektron directly skipped the concept stage, and the project's focus lies in engineering optimization and commercialization preparation. After confirming the trademark registration of the model name, the company plans to advance the formal listing process. According to the disclosure of its chairman, Elmer Francisco, the Elektron will be a model with a target pure electric range exceeding 600 kilometers, and plans to launch first as a battery electric vehicle.

Global Presence

FMC Elektron is actively integrating global resources. Its engineering verification is being conducted in Turkey, the UAE, and other places. Meanwhile, the parent company Francisco Motors Corporation has extended its R&D reach to California, USA, where it plans to conduct in-depth research on more cutting-edge technologies such as hydrogen fuel cell systems.

Viewing the whole picture, the future of Elektron presents two completely different paths between the grand narrative of the German startup and the pragmatic advancement of the Philippine brand. As of 2026, the latter has already steadily moved toward commercialization, while the former still needs to deliver solid production cars to verify whether the blueprint of the electric hypercar empire depicted in its planning is merely a mirage.
