Model Overview

The Dongfeng Fengon 580 is a D-segment SUV launched under the Fengon brand by Dongfeng Sokon Motor Co., Ltd. (DFSK), codenamed internally as Q51. Serving as DFSK’s flagship passenger vehicle, the Fengon 580 first debuted at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show before officially going on sale on 21 June of the same year. Leveraging an attractive "7-year/150,000 km" extended warranty and a generous 7-seater cabin as its key selling points, it quickly established itself as the brand's volume driver during its early lifecycle. As of June 2026, the lineup primarily consists of 2025 model-year variants offered in two trim levels: Comfort and Honor, carrying official retail prices of RM112,900 and RM141,900 respectively, with a choice between 5-seater and 7-seater configurations. Featuring the brand's "Force-Penetrating Aesthetics" design philosophy, a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, and an independent rear suspension, the Fengon 580 spearheaded DFSK's move upmarket.
Design Language
The 2025 Fengon 580 adopts the "Force-Penetrating Aesthetics" design theme, measuring 4,720 mm in length, 1,865 mm in width, and 1,710 mm in height, with a 2,785 mm wheelbase. Up front, it sports an imposing blacked-out radiator grille with a radiating chrome mesh pattern, seamlessly integrated with LED daytime running lights (DRLs) on either side. Slender lower air intakes flanked by red trim accents and a darkened front skid plate give the SUV an aggressive, commanding road presence. At the rear, the Fengon 580 features a full-width LED taillight assembly, complemented by twin chrome exhaust garnishes on the lower apron. Exterior colour options include Gilded Black, Nebula White, and Space Grey. Depending on the variant, various tyre specifications are offered, matched with large multi-spoke alloy wheels.
Inside, the cabin features a predominantly black theme with a wraparound dashboard housing an integrated large central touchscreen and a digital instrument cluster. Leatherette upholstery comes standard across the range, with split-folding second-row seats and fully flat-folding third-row seats that expand boot capacity up to a cavernous 2,215 litres.
Powertrain and Performance
Under the bonnet, the 2025 Fengon 580 is powered by a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine (code: HD15M1A) displacing 1,499 cc, kicking out 135 kW (approx. 184 PS) and 300 Nm of peak torque, with the torque band spread between 1,600 and 4,000 rpm. Power is channelled to the front wheels through a 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission (6AT). While official 0-100 km/h sprint times and top speed have not been published, fuel consumption is rated at 7.3 to 8.5 L/100 km on the WLTC cycle, running on standard RON 92 petrol. The 1.5T mill features direct fuel injection and Dual Variable Valve Timing (DVVT) to deliver smooth, progressive power delivery for city commutes and highway cruising. Fitted with a 58-litre fuel tank, the SUV offers a combined cruising range of roughly 750 km.
Chassis and Handling
In terms of underpinnings, the Fengon 580 rides on a front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link independent suspension setup in a front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout. The chassis underwent over 10 key component revisions benchmarked against European-spec Toyota RAV4 dynamics. Notably, the rear suspension features a thick anti-roll bar and diagonally mounted dampers, effectively mitigating body roll through corners while soaking up road surface imperfections. Braking is handled by ventilated discs up front and solid discs at the rear, complete with an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB). Steering is managed by an Electric Power Steering (EPS) system with speed-sensitive assistance, offering light effort during low-speed manoeuvres and reassuring weight at highway speeds. Drivers can toggle between three drive modes—Eco, Standard, and Sport—to suit urban traffic and open highways.
Cabin and Equipment
The 2025 Fengon 580 comes standard with a central touchscreen infotainment display (screen size varies by variant) with smartphone connectivity, a multi-function steering wheel, automatic climate control, and a reverse camera. The flagship Honor variant adds premium appointments such as a panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate with memory function, keyless entry with push-start ignition, and a power-adjustable driver's seat. In-car entertainment is delivered via a 4-to-6-speaker sound system. The instrument cluster combines traditional analogue gauges with a digital display. Higher trims also gain automatic headlights with follow-me-home delay and heated wing mirrors. Notably, the 2025 Comfort 7-seater is priced roughly RM3,000 higher than its 5-seater counterpart, offering versatile seating options to cater to various family needs.
Safety and Driver Assistance
For passive safety, the Fengon 580 is built around a high-strength safety cage structure with extensive high-tensile steel reinforcements. A six-airbag suite comes standard across the board, comprising dual front airbags, front side airbags, and full-length curtain airbags. Active safety is comprehensively covered across all variants, featuring an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Emergency Brake Assist (BA), Traction Control System (TCS), and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).
In terms of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), the range-topping 2025 Honor variant is equipped with Level 2 driving assistance, bundling Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), and Lane Change Assist (LCA). The entry-level Comfort variant is fitted with cruise control, a reverse camera with dynamic guidelines, and Hill Start Assist. A Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) is standard across the lineup, providing added everyday driving reassurance.
Market Performance and Outlook
On the sales front, the Fengon 580 was DFSK's prime breadwinner during its initial launch, with monthly deliveries breaching the 20,000-unit mark in late 2016. However, since 2018, its market share has seen a steady decline due to the rapid influx of new energy vehicles (NEVs) and intensifying competition. According to CPCA figures, full-year sales for the Fengon 580 in 2025 stood at around 2,757 units, with December contributing 188 units; cumulative deliveries from January to May 2025 amounted to just 140 units, with monthly sales in certain months dropping into single digits. Heading into 2026, sales momentum has yet to show meaningful recovery, leaving the model largely on the fringes of the market.
From a product standpoint, the Fengon 580's key strengths lie in its sub-RM120,000 entry price for a D-segment SUV offering strong value for money, a rear multi-link independent suspension that is a rarity in the RM100,000 bracket offering superior ride comfort over torsion-beam rivals, and versatile 5/7-seater seating options for large families. However, slower powertrain updates, lagging in-car tech, and a delayed electrification push have seen it lose ground against formidable competitors like the Geely Haoyue L, Chery Tiggo 8, Jetour X70, and similarly priced NEVs. Nevertheless, as DFSK's pioneering passenger vehicle, the Fengon 580 laid the foundation for the brand's presence in the SUV market, cementing its strategic and historical role in the company's journey.
