Chery New Energy Wujie Pro

2026-09-29 15:40:01

The Wujie Pro is an all-electric microcar introduced by Chery New Energy in November 2022. Positioned above the QQ Ice Cream and Little Ant, it centres around the "Thunder Mecha" design philosophy and intelligent tech features. Marketed under the "Performance Little Monster" tagline, it was aimed at young buyers seeking bold individuality. However, due to steep pricing and rampant quality control issues, sales languished following its debut, and it has since been quietly dropped from official Chery channels.

Model Overview

Positioned as an A00-segment fully electric hatchback under the Chery New Energy umbrella, its key highlights include an all-aluminium body, front and rear MacPherson independent suspension, up to 408 km of range, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon digital cockpit. The 2022 lineup comprised 5 variants across two CLTC range options (301 km and 408 km), carrying a price range of RM89,900 to RM112,900. Exterior dimensions measure 3,402 mm long, 1,680 mm wide, and 1,550 mm tall with a 2,160 mm wheelbase, configured in a 3-door, 4-seater layout.

Design Language

Up front, the exterior adopts the "Thunder Mecha" design theme, featuring Thunder Tomahawk LED headlights paired with an electric-wave front grille for an aggressive, distinctive look. In profile, it gets flush pop-out door handles and a floating roof effect, offered in seven exterior body colours. The cabin embraces a clean, tech-focused layout with a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, while range-topping variants gain a 12.9-inch floating infotainment touchscreen powered by a 3rd-generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 6155 automotive processor with Huawei HiCar smartphone connectivity. Seats are trimmed in synthetic leather, with power adjustment for the front passenger seat.

Powertrain and Range

The entire range features a rear-mounted motor with rear-wheel drive (RWD), available in two output levels:

Variant Motor Output Torque Battery Capacity CLTC Range 0-50 km/h
301km Version 55 kW (75 PS) 150 Nm 29.23 kWh 301 km N/A
408km Version 70 kW (95 PS) 120 Nm 40.3 kWh 408 km 4.5 seconds

DC fast charging is standard across the board, juicing up from 30% to 80% in 30 minutes. The chassis setup features MacPherson struts front and rear—a rare all-round independent suspension setup for a microcar in this class.

Equipment and Driver Assistance

Kit levels are generous for the segment: standard features across the range include dual front airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), reverse camera, cruise control, auto brake hold, hill-start assist, and hill descent control. The flagship Shenshou Edition adds a 360-degree camera system, blind spot monitoring (BSM), lane departure warning (LDW), traffic sign recognition, a fixed panoramic glass roof, built-in dashcam, and a wireless charging pad. Rear parking sensors comprise two ultrasonic units.

Market Performance and Quality Issues

Dismal Sales: The Wujie Pro recorded just 1,600 deliveries in its first month, after which numbers plummeted—dropping to 309 units in December 2022, 136 units in April 2024, and sliding to a low of 94 units in March that same year. Monthly sales struggled to break out of the double-to-low-triple digits, standing in stark contrast to its stablemate, the QQ Ice Cream (4,253 units/month).

Widespread Quality Complaints: One owner, Mr. Zhang, reported that after a year of ownership, the flush pop-out door handles suffered from unresponsive sensors and failed to retract while driving—an issue shared by multiple owners. Other frequent gripes include real-world range falling well short of indicated figures on a full charge, the transmission failing to engage drive after charging (requiring a full vehicle reboot), interior rattles, and peeling paint on the side mirrors.

Lack of Aftersales Support: The Wujie Pro has now vanished from Chery and Chery New Energy's official portals, effectively abandoned amid strategic restructuring. Owners have also had to migrate across two different telematics apps, with a third app migration reportedly underway.

In summary, the Chery Wujie Pro represents a flawed effort boasting "impressive hardware but fatal build quality lapses". While premium touches like all-round independent suspension, an all-aluminium construction, and a large touchscreen are commendable on paper, its RM89,900 starting price pushed it squarely into compact car territory. This cost-versus-quality mismatch compromised overall reliability—epitomised by finicky door handles—and led to the car being quietly phased out within a year. It serves as a classic textbook example of over-promising on spec sheets whilst faltering on dependability. A purchase is not recommended; within this price bracket, mainstream contenders like the BYD Seagull or Wuling Bingo make far more sensible alternatives.
