Model Overview

The Changan X7 PLUS is a compact SUV from Changan Auto, officially launched in January 2024. Originally known as the Changan Oushang X7 PLUS, this second-generation iteration retains the core styling of its predecessor while dropping the "Oushang" badging in favour of the unified Changan V-emblem, formally integrating it into the mainstream Changan V-badge product lineup. The new model comes in 7 variants, priced between RM93,900 and RM128,900, with a choice of 5-seater and 7-seater layouts. In the RM100,000 family SUV segment, the X7 PLUS leverages its generous cabin space and Blue Whale powertrain to target practical, value-conscious family buyers.
Design Language
The Changan X7 PLUS introduces the brand's latest "Boundless Universe" design language, grounded in the ethos of "power and dynamism". Up front, it features an imposing dragon-scale supreme front grille with an inverted trapezoidal layout and generous chrome garnishes; split LED headlamp clusters come standard across the range, sporting sharp upper daytime running lights, while the low and high beam units flanking the front bumper are accented with black trim and silver highlights. Along the sides, sleek character lines complement a floating roof design and a subtle tailgate spoiler for added flair. At the rear, it features full-width light-bar taillights with a horizontal chrome bar underneath, alongside an "X7 PLUS" emblem on the bottom right of the tailgate. 19-inch alloy wheels are standard across the range, wrapped in 225/55 R19 tyres. Inside, the dashboard is subtly angled towards the driver, maintaining a wrap-around cockpit layout. Two interior colourways are available: black and brown, with mid-to-high-spec variants featuring extensive suede and wood-grain trims that enhance overall cabin texture and perceived quality.
Powertrain & Performance
Under the bonnet, the Changan X7 PLUS is powered by the next-generation Blue Whale NE1.5T high-pressure direct-injection turbocharged four-cylinder engine, tuned in two states of output. The low-output variant churns out 125 kW (170 PS) and 260 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed manual transmission; the high-output tune delivers 138 kW (188 PS) and 300 Nm of torque, mated to a Blue Whale 7-speed wet dual-clutch transmission (DCT). The transverse engine runs on RON 92 petrol. The high-output variant achieves a 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.23 seconds and a top speed of 190 km/h. WLTC combined fuel consumption is rated between 7.0 and 7.3 L/100 km depending on the spec.
Chassis & Handling
Underneath, the Changan X7 PLUS utilises a front-engine, front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout. Suspension duties are handled by MacPherson struts at the front and a multi-link independent setup at the rear. Steering is managed by an electric power steering (EPS) system. Braking is handled by ventilated discs up front and solid discs at the rear, complemented by an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB). Automatic variants offer three drive modes: NORMAL, ECO, and SPORT. Auto Brake Hold, Hill-start Assist Control (HAC), and Hill Descent Control (HDC) are fitted as standard across the range.
Cabin & Equipment
Inside, the Changan X7 PLUS offers distinct screen setups across its variant range: entry-level specs get a 3.5-inch LCD instrument display and a 7-inch floating touchscreen infotainment head unit; mid-to-high variants upgrade to a 7-inch or 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster paired with a 12.3-inch floating infotainment display. Automatic models feature a yacht-style electronic gear selector as standard. Infotainment is driven by the OnStyle 3.0 intelligent system, powered by a MediaTek MT8666 automotive processor. Features include real-time online GPS navigation, natural voice control (covering 120 vehicle scenarios and 380 voice intents), Carlink smartphone integration, the NetEase Cloud Music app, proactive fatigue monitoring, gesture controls, and mic-free in-car karaoke. In terms of practicality, the 5-seater variant offers a boot capacity of 780 litres; the 7-seater features a 2+3+2 layout with second-row seats offering 120 mm of fore-aft slide adjustment, with the third row folding flat to expand cargo room. Automatic variants get a powered driver's seat, while the range-topping flagship adds driver seat ventilation and heating.
Safety & Driver Assistance
Safety-wise, all Changan X7 PLUS variants come standard with driver and front passenger airbags, front side airbags, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), and Traction Control System (TCS). For driver assistance, rear parking sensors, a reverse camera, and cruise control come standard across the range; higher trims add a 540-degree panoramic camera system (with transparent chassis view), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) / active safety system, and full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC with stop-and-go from 0 to 130 km/h). Additionally, high-spec variants gain the APA 5.0 one-touch automated parking system. Driver fatigue monitoring is standard across the board.
Market Performance & Verdict
As a facelifted and rebranded version of the Changan Oushang X7 PLUS, this model carries over its strong value proposition in the RM100,000 SUV bracket. In terms of market performance, monthly sales in 2025 have hovered around 1,600 to 2,000 units. Owner feedback generally highlights its spacious cabin, plush seating, and reasonably accurate steering; interior appointments such as suede and wood trims also give it a notable edge against competitors in its price segment. Conversely, some owners have noted low-speed transmission jerkiness and noticeable wind and tyre noise at highway cruising speeds. On the whole, with "ample space + Blue Whale powertrain" as its main selling points, the Changan X7 PLUS firmly cements its position as a practical, family-centric compact SUV.
