Model Overview

The Changan Qiyuan Q05 is a compact new energy vehicle (NEV) SUV under Changan Automobile’s Qiyuan brand, serving as the core SUV pillar within the brand’s "A/Q" dual-line product matrix. The model has undergone a strategic transition from plug-in hybrid (PHEV) to fully electric (BEV)—initially headlined by the "Q05 Classic" PHEV variant, followed by the debut of the all-new Q05 underpinned by the Tianshu EV platform in late 2025, and a further updated spring edition in April 2026. In terms of pricing, the PHEV version initially debuted in late 2023 with a starting price of RM119,900; following several rounds of price wars, the official retail price was revised down to start from RM96,900, with selected regions offering trade-in deals as low as RM63,900. Meanwhile, the all-new pure electric version carries an official retail price ranging from RM79,900 to RM109,900, with limited-time promotions bringing effective entry prices down to RM74,900. Positioned as an "RM80,000-bracket premium pure electric SUV" and the "only LiDAR-equipped pure electric SUV under RM100,000", the all-new Q05 benchmarks key rivals such as the BYD Yuan UP and GAC Aion Y.

Design Language

Stylistically, the Q05 has seen significant generational evolution. The PHEV Classic variant features a signature closed-off front grille design for a sleek, understated aesthetic. In contrast, the all-new pure electric model adopts the "Digital Intelligence Flying Wing 2.0" design language, highlighted by a full-width light bar paired with split headlamp clusters, where the subtly upturned light strip and an "Angry Birds" co-branded aesthetic add distinctiveness and youthful flair. Dimension-wise, the all-new Q05 measures 4,435 mm long, 1,855 mm wide, and 1,600 mm tall (1,595 mm on selected variants), with a 2,735 mm wheelbase—offering near-compact-SUV cabin room despite its B-segment SUV classification. At the rear, it sports full-width tail lamps, a uniquely sculpted rear roof spoiler, and semi-flush door handles, with 5 exterior colour options available. Inside, the cabin adopts a wraparound layout available in Jasper Black and Jade White colour schemes, anchored by a 15.6-inch 2.5K central infotainment touchscreen and a 10.17-inch full LCD digital instrument cluster, offering 29 storage compartments throughout the cabin and up to 1,008 mm of front headroom.

Powertrain and Performance

The Q05 is offered in two distinct powertrain setups: PHEV and fully electric. The PHEV Classic is powered by the New Blue Whale hybrid system, combining a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated engine (72 kW / 98 PS) with a front-mounted single motor in a P1+P3 dual-motor architecture, delivering a system output of 158 kW (215 PS) and 330 Nm of torque via an E-CVT. Equipped with an 18.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack from Gotion High-Tech or CATL, it delivers a CLTC pure electric range of 125 km (95 km WLTC), a combined cruising range of 1,215 km on a full tank and full charge, a depleted-battery fuel consumption of 5.22 to 5.3 L/100 km (WLTC), and an official 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 7.3 seconds. The all-new pure electric version features a front-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor as standard across the range, producing 120 kW (approx. 163 PS) and 280 to 330 Nm of torque (depending on variant specifications), completing the 0-50 km/h sprint in 3.6 seconds. CATL LFP battery cells come standard across all variants alongside Changan’s in-house "Golden Bell Shield" Battery 2.0 tech, available in 40.29 kWh and 51.91 kWh capacities, corresponding to CLTC pure electric ranges of 405 km and 506 km, respectively. The all-new Q05 supports 3C DC fast charging across the board, taking as fast as 15 minutes to charge from 30% to 80% and adding approximately 120 km of range in just 5 minutes.

Chassis and Handling

Chassis hardware also varies across the lineup. The PHEV Classic rides on a front MacPherson strut and rear multi-link independent suspension setup with a front-wheel-drive layout. Its suspension is tuned primarily for comfort, isolating road chatter well, though it can feel somewhat unsettled with noticeable body roll over deeper potholes or consecutive speed bumps. The all-new pure electric model adopts a front MacPherson strut and rear torsion beam setup, but comes standard across all variants with FSD (Frequency Selective Damping) shock absorbers, substantially improving ride compliance and bump absorption beyond the segment average, alongside commendable body roll control through high-speed bends. Steering is electric power-assisted with multi-level adjustment, driving the front wheels. Driving dynamics feature standard Eco, Normal, and Sport modes, alongside 1% to 100% stepless customisation for regenerative braking intensity, brake feel, and steering weight, supplemented by driving modes like iEM intelligent drive, pure electric, and hybrid to cover the vast majority of daily driving conditions.

Cabin and Features

Cabin technology forms the core selling point of the all-new Q05. The infotainment system runs on the Tianshu Intelligent Cockpit operating system powered by TSMC’s 4nm automotive-grade MT8676 chip, backed by 24GB of RAM and UFS 4.0 flash storage, drastically enhancing multitasking responsiveness and cutting app launch latency from 150 ms to just 50 ms. Connectivity covers mainstream platforms such as HUAWEI HiCar, Carlink, Apple CarPlay, and Honor Smart Car, complemented by full-scenario voice control driven by the iFLYTEK Spark large AI model. In terms of comfort, the PHEV variant comes with synthetic leather upholstery and a power-adjustable driver's seat. The all-new pure electric variant raises the bar further: both front seats gain heating, ventilation, and 8-point massage functions, with the front passenger seat boasting an ottoman leg rest with up to 70° elevation (Queen's Co-pilot seat)—a rarity in this class; the 506 Pro+ variant upgrades the driver's seat to 10-way power adjustment with lumbar support; the 506 Max+ variant adds a 1.8 m² panoramic glass roof complete with an electric sunblind. An 8-speaker audio system and 256-colour ambient lighting come standard across the range. Boot volume starts at 540 litres and expands to 1,380 litres with the rear seats folded down, complemented by a 90-litre underfloor "Qiankun" sub-trunk, bringing total in-cabin storage compartments to 29.

Safety and Intelligent Driving

On the safety front, the all-new Q05 features a high-rigidity cage body structure with 9 crossmembers and 5 longitudinal beams, utilizing 80.3% ultra-high-strength and high-strength steels, with 1,500 MPa hot-stamped steel applied in critical crash zones alongside laser-welded and integrated hot-stamped door rings, backed by 6 airbags as standard across all variants. For driver assistance, the PHEV Classic gets standard Level 2 ADAS, supporting full-speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), and a 540° panoramic camera system. The pure electric model takes ADAS capabilities to another level—the LiDAR variant packs 27 high-precision sensing units (1 LiDAR, 3 millimetre-wave radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 11 HD cameras) powered by a Horizon Journey 6M chip delivering 128 TOPS of computing power. Functionally, it enables Navigation Cruise Assist (NCA) on highways and expressways with autonomous lane changes, overtaking, and ramp navigation, alongside self-learning navigation assist capable of storing up to 10 commuter routes. Automated parking features include APA in-car parking, RPA remote parking, HZP memory parking, and Reverse Tracking Assist, highlighted by a segment-first "nose-in" automated parking function. The LiDAR Special Edition launched in April further enhances this intelligent driving suite.

Market Performance and Reception

Market performance for the Changan Qiyuan Q05 has experienced a notable roller-coaster trajectory. Monthly sales of the early PHEV variant peaked at 4,751 units in March 2024 before enduring eight consecutive months of year-on-year declines starting in April, tumbling to 1,193 units in August 2025 (a 65.94% drop). Nonetheless, across the 23-month window from January 2024 to November 2025, cumulative sales for the entire Q05 lineup (including Classic and new models sold concurrently) hit 381,453 units, with single-month peaks exceeding 17,000 units, reflecting resilient consumer demand. The launch of the all-new pure electric model sparked a swift recovery—posting 12,600 deliveries and 12,977 insurance registrations in March 2026 to clinch the top sales spot in the compact pure electric SUV segment. On the global front, the all-new Q05, positioned as a key global volume model, will roll out across Southeast Asia, Europe, the Middle East & Africa, and Central & South America beginning in Q2 2026. Market reception has praised its linear power delivery, dependable real-world driving range (with tests exceeding 97% range accuracy on the EV model), clever interior packaging, and class-leading ADAS hardware, though some user feedback noted that rear suspension damping over consecutive minor road ripples still leaves room for improvement. Overall, through its strategic transition from PHEV to full EV, the Changan Qiyuan Q05 is solidifying its standing in the RM100,000-bracket new energy SUV market on the back of segment-busting cabin tech and electrification specifications.
