BAIC ORV is a core independent passenger car brand under the Beijing Automotive Group, and also the most historically deep hardcore off-road vehicle manufacturer in China. The brand is operated by Beijing Automotive Group Co., Ltd., with headquarters in Beijing. The BAIC ORV brand logo is the Chinese character "Beijing", carrying the development history of Chinese off-road vehicles from nothing to something, known as the "Inventor of Chinese Off-Road Vehicles". The brand has been deeply invested in the off-road track for decades, is the only domestic independent off-road vehicle manufacturer with a full spectrum system, and has built a complete hardcore off-road product ecosystem covering entry-level rigid demand, mid-range all-rounders, and flagship premium.
Beijing Automotive Group (abbreviated as "Beijing Automotive Group") is the parent company of BAIC ORV. Beijing Automotive Group was established in 1958 and is a large-scale state-owned automobile enterprise group in Beijing with registered capital of 20.5 billion Yuan. Beijing Automotive Group covers two major joint venture brands, Beijing Benz and Beijing Hyundai, as well as independent brands such as BAIC ORV, Arcfox, and Stelato. BAIC ORV is the core growth engine of the independent sector of Beijing Automotive Group, jointly forming the three pillars of Beijing Automotive's independent passenger cars with Arcfox and Stelato.
In public perception, "BAIC ORV" and "Beijing Automotive Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (BAW)" are often confused, but they are actually two completely independent automotive enterprises. BAIC ORV belongs to Beijing Automotive Group and is an independent brand operated by a large central state-owned enterprise, mainly promoting models such as BJ40, BJ60, etc., using the Chinese character "Beijing" car emblem. Beijing Automotive Manufacturing Co., Ltd. was founded in 1958 and once developed the BJ212 off-road vehicle. In 2001, it was integrated into Beijing Automotive Group as a whole, but in 2015 it was separated from the Beijing Automotive system due to strategic adjustment. In 2020, it completed the private reform, was controlled by Shandong Weiqiao New Energy Vehicle Technology Group Co., Ltd., headquarters was moved to Qingdao, and now continues the 212 series models with BAW as the brand logo. Although the two have deep origins, property rights are independent and operations are separated, and each owns an independent R&D system, manufacturing standards, and after-sales service network.
Regarding key figures in the brand, Zhang Guofu, Deputy General Manager of Beijing Automotive Group, concurrently serves as Chairman of BAIC ORV, coordinating brand strategy; the Chairman of Beijing Automobile Holdings Limited (BAH) was Wang Hao (from January 2025 to March 2026) and Zhang Guofu (succeeded in March 2026); Chen Geng, President of Beijing Automotive Group, is responsible for daily operations. In addition, Wang Chunfeng, General Manager of Beijing Automotive Group Sales Company, is in charge of marketing strategy, and Xu Feng, General Manager of BAIC ORV Product Center, is responsible for product planning.
Military Foundation and BJ212 Birth (1958–1983) . BAIC ORV's military heritage can be traced back to 1958. That year, Beijing Automotive Manufacturing Factory (the predecessor of Beijing Automotive) was established as the second large automotive production enterprise in New China, shouldering the mission of national defense construction from its inception. In 1963, the BJ210 light off-road vehicle developed by Beijing Automotive was officially named "Beijing" brand. In 1965, in an industry environment with almost blank technology, Beijing Automotive developed China's first generation of light military off-road vehicle BJ212, filling the domestic gap in 0.5–1 ton light off-road vehicles. In 1966, the BJ212 prototype was arranged for mass production, and the domestic "Beijing" brand off-road vehicle was officially born. This model accounted for more than 80% of the market share of light off-road vehicles in the country at that time, becoming a collective memory of several generations, and also a milestone for independent innovation in China's automotive industry.
Joint Venture Exploration and Technical Accumulation (1984–2000) . In January 1984, Beijing Automotive Manufacturing Factory jointly established Beijing Jeep Automobile Co., Ltd. with American Motors Corporation (AMC), becoming the first joint venture enterprise in China's automotive industry, and made multiple improvements and upgrades to BJ212. In March 1988, the improved BJ212C model resumed production. Afterwards, BJ212 was renamed BJ2020 after being restyled, becoming the second generation of military off-road vehicles. During this period, Beijing Automotive learned modern automobile manufacturing systems and quality management experience through joint ventures with the United States, accumulating capabilities for subsequent independent research and development.
Beijing Automotive Group Development and BAIC ORV Brand Formation (2001–2019) . In 2001, Beijing Automotive Manufacturing Factory was integrated into the newly established Beijing Automotive Group as a whole. Thereafter, Beijing Automotive Group continued to strengthen independent businesses, and successively laid out multiple independent brand business sectors in the 2010s. In 2013, Beijing Automotive launched BJ40, marking that the BAIC ORV brand product system achieved a mass production iteration from the 212 era to modern off-road vehicle manufacturing. In the 90th Anniversary of the Founding of the Army Parade in 2017, BJ80 served as the Commander-in-Chief's car and was assigned to review missions, and was selected as the third generation of military command vehicles. From then on, BAIC ORV's product system was gradually built into an array of products pointing to different needs such as BJ40, BJ60, BJ80, BJ90, and so on.
Brand Independence and Market Explosion (2020–2022) . In 2020, BAIC ORV operated as an independent brand sector under Beijing Automotive Group, focusing on the professional off-road passenger car market. In 2022, BAIC ORV established the brand positioning of "Beijing Capital · Off-Road Family", and began to accelerate penetration into the consumer market. The BJ40 series gradually established its core position in the domestic hardcore off-road market, attracting a large number of mass consumers with its "box" design and high cost-performance strategy.
Leapfrog Breakthrough and New Energy Transformation (2023–2025) . In 2023, BAIC ORV started brand transformation. In 2025, under the leadership of the "Off-Road + Electrification + Intelligence" strategy, the brand achieved historic growth—the full-year sales exceeded 200,000 units, "box" models delivered 147,000 units, a year-over-year increase of 72%, monthly sales stabilized and exceeded 20,000 units. The core model BJ40 Extended Range Version achieved sales of 38,000 units in 8 months, ranking first in the extended range box market. In the light off-road field, BJ30 Traveler filled the gap of 100,000 Yuan 7-seat light off-road vehicles. Within 24 hours of launch, orders exceeded 16,000 units. In the luxury off-road field, BJ60 Extended Range Executive Version set a benchmark with global first fit Altitude-Adaptive Automatic Oxygen Adjustment Technology. That year, the penetration rate of China's hardcore off-road SUV market exceeded 3%, new energy off-road sales reached 388,000 units, penetration rate exceeded 41%, and independent brand market share exceeded 68%.
Deep Transformation and Global Expansion (2026 to present) . 2026 entered the strategic assault phase. On March 28, Beijing Automotive Group welcomed key personnel adjustments: Wang Hao was transferred to Minister of Group Brand Management, Zhang Guofu and Liu Guanqiao succeeded as Chairman of Beijing Automotive Holdings Limited and Beijing BluePark, respectively. This move is essentially a rational correction of the "traffic-oriented" development model, aiming to strengthen brand synergy at the group level. In 2026, BAIC ORV plans to launch 6 new vehicles (including 3 all-new models and 3 facelift models), targeting full-year sales of over 300,000 units (200,000 domestic, 100,000 overseas), reaching 500,000 units in 2027, and challenging the million-unit scale in 2030. At the April Beijing Auto Show, BJ40 Extended Range Long Range Version started pre-sale (214,800 Yuan), and "Tactical Box" Beijing 81 simultaneously started blind orders, focusing comprehensively on the new energy off-road track.
BAIC ORV's product line is centered on the BJ series. Currently, it has formed a "Full Box Matrix" with fuel and new energy lines advancing together, covering three scenarios: light off-road, professional off-road, and luxury off-road, radiating to the full price range of 100,000–300,000 Yuan.
BJ40 Series is the core product line of BAIC ORV and the sales benchmark in the Chinese hardcore off-road market. The series has cumulative sales exceeding 300,000 units, covering multiple power forms such as Fuel Version, Extended Range Version, and Extended Range Long Range Version. BJ40 Fuel Version refreshed price is 126,900–136,900 Yuan, focusing on the professional off-road entry market. In Q2 2026, a new BJ60 equipped with Huawei Smart Driving System will be launched, equipped with 3 LiDARs, deeply integrating luxury and intelligence.
BJ30 Series focuses on the light off-road market. BJ30 Traveler (launched in September 2025) fills the gap of 100,000 Yuan 7-seat light off-road vehicles with its "Three-Engine Four-Wheel Drive Six-Mode" architecture, relying on a 72% 3-year resale value to firmly hold the first place in the 100,000–150,000 Yuan independent compact SUV market resale value. During the 2025 South Africa G20 Summit period, 10 BJ30 units completed commuter guarantee tasks with "Zero Failures" performance, showcasing the hardcore strength of product quality.
BJ80 Series is BAIC ORV's flagship military vehicle, undertaking multiple major national event tasks: as Commander-in-Chief's car in the 2017 90th Anniversary of the Founding of the Army Parade, as reviewing car for Hong Kong troops in the 2017 20th Anniversary of Hong Kong's Return Parade, and performing cannon towing tasks in the 2015 70th Anniversary of Victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression Parade.

Xiangye 700 is a mid-to-large extended range SUV upgraded from BJ60, focusing on "Hardcore + Smart Electric Drive", roof integrates LiDAR supporting advanced smart driving, optional drone compartment, CLTC range exceeds 1000 km.
Planned models include: In Q3 2026, BJ30 Year Model will be launched; in Q4, an all-new A+ segment light off-road all-rounder new car will be launched, providing fuel, pure electric, plug-in hybrid multiple power choices.
BAIC ORV is experiencing a growth volume stage from specialized tool vehicles to mass consumption attributes. In 2023, the brand's overall sales showed monthly fluctuations, hovering at the 20,000–50,000 unit level for the full year. In 2024, BAIC ORV welcomed significant growth—the wholesale volume for each month of the full year achieved year-over-year positive growth for 8 consecutive months, November sales exceeded 11,000 units, December reached 13,034 units, creating the peak for that year.
2025 was the most important year in BAIC ORV's history. Cumulative deliveries for the full year exceeded 200,000 units, far exceeding the original sales target of 150,000 units, among which "box" models delivered 147,499 units, a year-over-year increase of 72%. Hardcore off-road vehicle sales for the full year reached 76,000 units, nearly doubling compared to 2024. From April 2025, the brand achieved monthly sales exceeding 10,000 units for 8 consecutive months, November even broke through the 20,000-unit high point. User structure achieved a fundamental transformation—personal user proportion increased from 70% to 83%, a 13 percentage point increase compared to the previous year; sales proportion of high-value products above 150,000 Yuan increased significantly, marking that the brand's products have successfully integrated into mainstream users' daily life scenarios from traditional tool vehicle attributes.
From monthly trends, 2025 full-year sales showed a "low start, high rise" trend: February due to Spring Festival and other factors affected sales 3,544 units, climbed rapidly to 8,306 units from March, 7,193 units in April, 5,112 units in May (affected by new product update rhythm), 7,170 units in June, 6,342 units in July, 6,153 units in August, 8,164 units in September, broke through the 10,000-unit barrier in October to reach 10,522 units, reached 9,884 units in November, spiked to 12,329 units in December. 2026 start maintained high growth rate—January wholesale volume 10,149 units, February already achieved phased results such as 2,113 units exported overseas for the year.
Regarding resale value, BJ40 topped the hardcore off-road body-on-frame SUV category with a 50.28% 3-year resale value, BJ30 firmly held the first place in the 100,000–150,000 Yuan independent compact SUV market resale value with 72% 3-year resale value.
In financial dimensions, Beijing Automotive Holdings Limited achieved full-year sales of 850,000 units in 2025, BAIC ORV is the core growth engine of the independent sector. But in 2025, Beijing Automotive Holdings Limited's net profit attributable to parent company is expected to be only 110 million to 130 million Yuan, plummeting year-over-year by 86.4% to 88.5%, declining for the third consecutive year. The core reason is that strategic focus tilted too much towards the independent sector, core joint venture assets Beijing Benz and Beijing Hyundai failed to obtain sufficient resources, Beijing Benz's contribution to group profit proportion appeared structural decline, joint venture base stable improvement still faces major pressure. This brings certain uncertainty to BAIC ORV's future cash-generating capability and independent growth.
BAIC ORV's technology system is based on military-grade quality heritage, fusing new energy and intelligent transformation, forming core competitiveness with fuel and new energy lines driving.
Military Vehicle Gene and Chassis Technology is BAIC ORV's core barrier. The brand has accumulated decades of body-on-frame, professional part-time 4WD, global chassis tuning, all-terrain recovery system and other hardcore off-road bottom-layer technologies. BJ40 series adopts high-strength cage body and metal roll cage structure, one of the few in the industry that take roll cage as factory standard for hardcore off-road vehicle brands. Beijing 81 adopts "Two Longitudinal Eight Transverse" high-strength frame, body torsional stiffness is 30% higher than same-segment city SUVs.
Extended Range Power System is the main stem of the brand's new energy transformation. BAIC ORV's main range extender "BAIC Shenqing" power generation efficiency reaches 97.5%, cooperating with self-developed AI Energy Management Master, achieving refined energy distribution. BJ40 Extended Range Long Range Version is equipped with CATL deep-customized top-spec battery pack, impact resistance reaches 8 times national standard, vibration resistance reaches 6 times national standard, bottom equipped with partial double-layer protection system can instantly mitigate 1200J bottom impact energy. Nanjing Times SOP power prediction control technology turns battery into "Digital Brain" capable of perceiving working conditions, reasonably releasing power in extreme scenarios like low battery climbing to achieve stable recovery. Battery system achieved IPX8 grade submarine-level sealing standard.
Intelligent Architecture aspect, BJ40 Extended Range Yuanjing Zhihang as the country's first pure vision technology solution off-road vehicle, equipped with 26 high-precision sensors and Horizon high-performance chip, collaborating with Bosch to build Perception-Decision-Execution loop, achieving precise road condition recognition in off-road scenarios. Unique high-speed NOA function in same level supports highway automatic on/off ramps, intelligent overtaking, and other L2-level assisted driving capabilities. Brand new BJ60 will be equipped with Huawei Intelligent Driving System and 3 LiDARs, further enhancing intelligent experience of luxury off-road vehicles.
Light Off-Road Technology level, BJ30 Traveler adopts "Three-Engine Four-Wheel Drive Six-Mode" architecture, filling product gap between light off-road SUV and home SUV with high cost-performance, becoming compact SUV resale value champion. BJ60 Extended Range Executive Version globally first fit Altitude-Adaptive Automatic Oxygen Adjustment Technology, unique medical-grade oxygen production standard in same level, equipped with full-domain in-vehicle satellite communication (no dead angle coverage within China), setting tech benchmark in luxury off-road field.
BiP (Build in Public) Car-Making New Mode is BAIC ORV's management and technological innovation in car-making process end. This mode turns product from 0 to 1 whole process—development progress, core decision basis, technical difficulties, and iteration direction are all made open and transparent to users, through "Open, Participate, Feedback" loop, user demands directly convert into product upgrade momentum. Beijing 81 is the first result of this mode, already in blind order stage.
BAIC ORV's globalization strategy is in acceleration phase. The brand plans to develop high-temperature version, cold-climate version, EU version and other international versions, through complete vehicle export, SKD/CKD overseas production assembly and other ways, to realize 100,000-unit sales target for overseas markets.
Africa Market is an important position for overseas strategy. BAIC ORV takes South Africa as the operation center for Africa market. During the 2025 South Africa G20 Summit period, 20 BJ30 and X55 were officially delivered to South African Department of International Relations and Cooperation to join summit official fleet sequence, additionally 40 units delivered to South African Ministry of Transport as summit security guarantee vehicles, fully achieving "Zero Failures" performance throughout. BJ30 will subsequently complete local production in South Africa, and radiate to multiple African countries markets.
Europe Market is BAIC ORV's medium-term key focus direction. Through Spanish Santana obtaining Chinese capital restart project, from mid-2026, Beijing Automotive independent R&D BJ40 Pro, BJ30 and other off-road vehicles will enter European market, adopting brand licensing method for Spanish factory to complete local assembly. BAIC ORV and Beijing Automotive International collaborate to jointly develop EU version models, planning to enter core markets such as Spain, France, Germany, etc.
Middle East and Gulf Market is also strategic focus. BJ series has already batch exported in UAE, Saudi Arabia and other regions and gradually established dealer networks. In 2026, BAIC ORV plans to promote international version BB synchronous development, among which brand new BJ60 plans to be equipped with Huawei Smart Driving System, already planned to enter Gulf, Europe and other overseas markets. In Southeast Asia market, right-hand drive countries like Thailand, Indonesia take BJ40 series as entry point, achieving local assembly and sales through SKD method.
Beijing Automotive Group overall export scale continues to expand. Beijing Automotive official data shows, 2025 Beijing Automotive Group achieved export 308,000 units, creating historic high, year-over-year growth 26%, growth rate higher than industry by 7.3 percentage points, Beijing Automotive vehicles already sold to over 130 countries and regions globally. Passenger vehicle aspect, Beijing Automotive International released brand new overseas brand architecture, and in Gulf, North Africa, Southeast Asia, Central and South America and other regions launched multiple new models.
