Tesla Cybercab launch event set for September 3 - No steering wheel, wireless charging

Tesla announced that its Cybercab launch event will take place on 3 September. Earlier reports had suggested that the company was looking to start production of the autonomous taxi as early as April.

The Cybercab has a low-slung coupe-style body, giving it a very different look from the usual taxi.

Up front, there is a full-width light bar and projector headlights, while the side profile gets a set of eye-catching butterfly doors. The rear takes some inspiration from the Cybertruck, including its full-width tail light.

Inside, there is no steering wheel, accelerator or brake pedal. Elon Musk has said the Cybercab will instead rely on Tesla's full FSD (Full Self-Driving) system.

The cabin gets a minimalist layout, while the seats use a one-piece design that separates the cushion and backrest into sections. A folding centre armrest sits between the seats, with a centrally mounted display further forward.

Charging is another area where Tesla is taking a different approach.

The Cybercab has no conventional charging port and is expected to use wireless charging instead. There is also a robotic arm designed to clean the cabin automatically.
