New Jaguar Type 01 electric GT debuts with 850V architecture

Jaguar has unveiled the Type 01, a new four-seat electric GT that becomes the most powerful road-going model in the marque's history. The global debut took place in New York on 7 October.

The Type 01 is a low-slung GT with a long bonnet and flowing bodywork. Jaguar has given the car a very different look from its previous models, but there are still clear links to classics such as the E-type and XJS.

It also represents a step up in both performance and aerodynamics compared with Jaguar's previous production road cars.

The cabin keeps things simple. A 24-inch OLED display sits behind the steering wheel, while a 7-inch touchscreen is mounted vertically in the centre console for functions such as media and climate control.

Underneath, the Type 01 uses Jaguar's JEA electric vehicle platform and develops more than 1,000 hp. An 850V electrical system gives it an EPA-rated range of 400 miles (around 640 km), while 350 kW charging can add 200 miles (around 320 km) in 13 minutes.

The chassis uses double-wishbone front suspension and a multi-link rear setup. It also gets air suspension with variable-volume air springs and active twin-valve dampers.

Four-wheel steering helps keep the car manageable at low speeds. The rear wheels can turn up to 6.0 degrees in the opposite direction to the front wheels, giving the Type 01 a turning circle of around 11.5 metres.
