Hong Kong's first European-standard flash-charging station opens at Gold Coast Piazza

Hong Kong's first European-standard flash-charging station, and the first of its kind in the Asia-Pacific region, has opened at Gold Coast Piazza in Tuen Mun. The station was jointly developed by Sino Group, BYD, CR EVIVA and iCar Group, and began operations on 17 September 2026.

The system is also designed to reduce the impact of high-power charging on the local electricity grid, allowing EVs equipped with BYD's second-generation Blade Battery to make use of higher charging power without requiring a correspondingly large grid connection.

Under normal-temperature charging conditions, BYD flash-charging EVs can charge from 10% to 70% in as little as five minutes. A 10% to 97% charge takes around nine minutes, according to the companies.

That brings charging times closer to the short stops drivers are used to when refuelling a petrol car, although actual charging times will vary depending on the vehicle, battery temperature and other conditions.
