Freelander 8 pre-sale set for 14 August: 46.3-inch rear display, 4 LiDARs, plus i-ATS

FREELANDER has postponed the pre-sale launch of its new Freelander 8 SUV from August 10 to August 14 due to the approaching Typhoon Dolphin.

The delay was announced by Zhou Wen, Global Chief Marketing Officer of FREELANDER, on social media. The company said the decision was made after assessing travel and event safety for staff and guests.

The Freelander 8 is positioned as a luxury technology-focused all-terrain SUV. It will come standard with Huawei's Qiankun ADS 5, an 800V high-voltage platform and Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8397 automotive-grade flagship chip, making it one of the first production models globally to use the new processor.

The Freelander 8 takes design cues from the CONCEPT 97 and retains the brand's familiar boxy SUV shape.

Up front, the SUV features a closed-off grille area and rectangular headlights. The side profile gets straight, clean lines, alloy wheels and roof rails. The overall design stays fairly upright, giving the SUV a more rugged look.

FREELANDER is also offering three exclusive exterior colours designed by Phil Simmons, Director of the FREELANDER Global Design Centre. They are Vibrant Lemon Gold, Radiant Silver and Twilight Purple.

The interior takes a more modern, tech-focused approach, with a 46.3-inch rear display and a 15.6-inch LED central touchscreen.

There is also plenty of attention to the smaller details. Standard equipment includes physical buttons featuring Clous de Paris (Parisian hobnail) textures rooted in luxury watchmaking heritage, along with K9 optical crystal control knobs featuring 144 precision-cut facets. A 256-colour dual-ring ambient lighting system is also available across the range.

The Freelander 8 puts a strong emphasis on rear-seat comfort. The second row gets two zero-gravity seats with heating, ventilation, massage and adjustable leg rests.

Other rear-seat features include dedicated folding tables, a built-in refrigerator and a roof-mounted entertainment screen. The third row also gets cupholders and adjustable seats.

The Freelander 8 is also claimed to be the world's first production model to combine four Huawei LiDAR sensors with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8397 flagship chip.

It comes with Huawei's Qiankun Intelligent Driving system, an 800V high-voltage range-extender platform and an i-ATS intelligent all-terrain system jointly tuned with Huawei Qiankun.

The SUV is also equipped with three differential locks at the front, centre and rear, giving it the hardware to handle everything from daily city driving to more demanding terrain.
