F1 Dutch Grand Prix: Norris wins again as Antonelli extends championship lead

The 2026 F1 Dutch Grand Prix came to a close at Zandvoort on 23 August, with McLaren's Lando Norris taking his second win of the season after starting from pole. He finished 11.536 seconds ahead of Mercedes rookie Kimi Antonelli, with George Russell completing the podium. Home favourite Max Verstappen crashed out on the opening lap, bringing out a red flag and interrupting the race.

Rain before the start left parts of the track damp, but Norris made a clean getaway from pole. The race was stopped after just one lap when Verstappen lost the rear of his Red Bull and hit the wall, with the red flags bringing the field back into the pits for around half an hour.

When the action resumed, Antonelli made a quick move to take the lead from Norris and gradually built a gap. Norris stayed within reach, however, and the McLaren driver eventually made his move in the closing stages. On Lap 54, he overtook Antonelli and then Lewis Hamilton to retake the lead, and from there he was not seriously challenged again. Norris took the chequered flag in 2:04:44.859, 11.536 seconds clear of Antonelli.

Russell held off the Ferraris to secure third, finishing 15.906 seconds behind Norris. Hamilton and Charles Leclerc finished fourth and fifth, followed by Oscar Piastri, Liam Lawson, Nico Hulkenberg, Fernando Alonso and Pierre Gasly.

After the Dutch Grand Prix, Kimi Antonelli remains at the top of the drivers' standings on 242 points, 59 ahead of Mercedes team-mate George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, who are tied on 183 points.

Norris moved up to fourth on 159 points after his win, while Leclerc is fifth on 155. Max Verstappen remains sixth on 112 points after failing to score at his home race, while Oscar Piastri is seventh on 104.
