Chery Clinches UK Car Market Sales Crown for First Time in August

The UK's August sales figures are out. Across its three marques—Chery, Jaecoo, and Omoda—Chery delivered a combined total of 8,618 units, overtaking longtime chart-topper Volkswagen to secure the UK monthly sales crown for the very first time.

**Strong Showing from Chinese Marques: MG Takes Third**

By brand, Chinese marques put in a stellar performance. MG recorded 4,960 new registrations in August, up 93.5% year-on-year, finishing third on the brand leaderboard; Jaecoo registered 4,022 units, surging 194.2% year-on-year to break into the top ten; while BYD logged 3,867 registrations, up 119.8% year-on-year, ranking eleventh.

**Chinese Models Secure Four Spots in Top 10 Best-Sellers**

In terms of individual models, Chinese vehicles claimed four places among the UK's top 10 best-sellers: the Jaecoo 7 came in second with 2,022 units; the MG HS took third with 1,785 units; the Jaecoo 5 placed fourth with 1,670 units; and the Omoda 5 finished sixth with 1,465 units.

**Jaecoo 7 Dubbed the "Budget Land Rover"**

With its generous cabin space, imposing styling, and an accessible entry price of £29,000 (approx. RMB 263,000), the Jaecoo 7 has hit the sweet spot in the family SUV segment. Dubbed the "Temu Land Rover" (budget Land Rover) by the British motoring press, it has racked up cumulative sales of roughly 55,000 units since launching in 2025.

**MG HS Cumulative Sales Top 80,000 Units**

The MG HS, a compact SUV starting at £26,500, offers higher equipment specifications than rivals in its class. Since 2024, its cumulative sales have surpassed 80,000 units.

**Chinese Marques Capture 16.1% Market Share in First Eight Months**

Chinese models are seeing rapid growth momentum in the UK. From January to August, cumulative registrations of Chinese brands reached 222,979 units, capturing a 16.1% market share.
