BYD's new RACCO has got off to a strong start in Japan. Just one week after pre-orders opened, the electric kei car had secured more than 5,000 confirmed orders.
Interest in the model had already been building well before its market launch. Following its debut at this year's Japan Mobility Show, the RACCO prototype reportedly attracted over 30,000 expressions of interest, highlighting the strong demand for BYD's first kei car.
In Japan, the RACCO is priced from JPY 2.145 million before tax (~HKD 105,000).

The BYD RACCO features a clean, boxy design with short front and rear overhangs, giving it a compact footprint while maximising interior space. Practicality is further enhanced by power sliding rear doors, making it easier for passengers to get in and out, especially in tight parking spaces.
Buyers can choose from six exterior colours: Arctic White, Cosmos Black, Arctic Blue, Midnight Green, Ruby Red and Cheese Yellow. Ruby Red is exclusive to the flagship variant, which also comes with premium synthetic leather upholstery.
Measuring 3,395 mm long, 1,475 mm wide and 1,800 mm tall, the RACCO stays within Japan's kei car size regulations and remains well suited to urban driving.

Despite its compact dimensions, the BYD RACCO comes generously equipped. Standard features include heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, Level 2 driver assistance, vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability and six airbags, offering a strong mix of comfort, convenience and safety.

Other highlights include a tall roofline for improved headroom and power sliding rear doors with hands-free kick activation.
Inside, the RACCO is fitted with a 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen, synthetic leather seats, a six-way power-adjustable driver's seat, a dedicated insulated cup holder and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), giving the kei car an equipment list that rivals many larger vehicles.

The BYD RACCO is available with two battery options. The entry-level variant is equipped with a 22.4 kWh battery pack, while higher-spec models feature a larger 35.84 kWh battery.
The standard version offers up to 210 km of driving range, and the larger battery extends the range to 320 km, making the RACCO well suited to daily commuting and short-distance trips.
Charging is equally practical, with support for DC fast charging at up to 50 kW.
