smart China has recently released spy shots of the production-spec smart #2 on its official social media channels. Penned by the Mercedes-Benz design team, the new model is set to make its global debut at the Paris Motor Show this October.

Although the test mule remains camouflaged, its overall silhouette closely matches the concept prototype revealed earlier. It carries forward the classic design heritage of the smart fortwo while being innovatively re-engineered for an all-electric powertrain.

Up front, the car adopts the closed-off grille typical of electric vehicles, paired with a split-headlight setup. The illuminated headlights and daytime running lights deliver a high-tech aesthetic with strong visual recognition.
Measuring just 2.79 metres in length, the new car retains smart's signature "wheel-at-each-corner" layout. Combined with a floating roof design, the overall styling is compact and refined. At the rear, circular taillights echo the front lighting signature, creating a cohesive and well-balanced design.

It is understood that the new model will initially be offered as a two-door hardtop, with a convertible version likely to follow later to enrich the lineup.
In terms of powertrain and practicality, the smart #2 is powered by an all-electric drive system, delivering a CLTC range of up to 400 km. It supports DC fast charging, taking just 20 minutes to recharge from 10% to 80%, and also features a V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) reverse charging function for added versatility. In addition, with a turning radius of just 6.95 metres, it is ideally tailored for daily urban commuting.
