BYD made its debut at the 2026 Busan International Mobility Show, officially unveiling the Sealion 6 DM-i — its first hybrid model specifically engineered for the South Korean market — on Media Day. This launch marks the brand’s official entry into South Korea’s hybrid vehicle sector. The vehicle is priced at 37.5 million Korean won (approximately HK$190,000) locally.

This year marks the tenth anniversary of BYD’s South Korea subsidiary. Liu Xueliang, Vice President of BYD Group and General Manager of the Asia-Pacific Automotive Sales Division, stated that the brand will continue to leverage its comprehensive operational ecosystem spanning both passenger and commercial vehicles, bringing fresh choices and new opportunities to South Korea’s new energy mobility market.

BYD pioneered the world’s first mass-produced plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) as early as 2008 and has relentlessly refined and optimised its hybrid technology over the years. The company’s DM-i hybrid system has proven its resilience under long-term market scrutiny, with cumulative global sales exceeding 8 million units and total mileage surpassing 30 billion kilometres, earning widespread industry recognition for its technical maturity.

The newly launched Sealion 6 DM-i stands as a flagship exemplar of BYD’s deep expertise in hybrid technology. With this vehicle’s official entry into the South Korean market, BYD will establish a dual-track new energy portfolio combining pure electric and hybrid options, offering South Korean consumers a broader array of diverse and environmentally sustainable mobility solutions.
