The all-new Mengshi M817 (also marketed as the M-Hero II or M-Hero 817) has officially launched in China's mainland, with prices ranging from RMB 299,900 to RMB 399,900 across five variants. Positioned as a large plug-in hybrid electric SUV, the M817 comes fully equipped with Huawei's Qiankun ADS 5 intelligent driving assistance system and features an 896-line LiDAR. Both powertrain performance and pure-electric range have seen significant improvements over the previous model, while the manufacturer has also hinted at an upcoming X-series lineup.

The Mengshi M817 adopts the brand's "Xionghun Aesthetics 2.0" design language, projecting a commanding presence. The front fascia features a closed "Lion Roar" grille flanked by illuminated trim; when the daytime running lights are activated, the M-LOGO on the grille lights up in sync, enhancing its technological appeal. The hood is sculpted with dual creases to form a lion's nose, while the segmented structure creates a dynamic, uplifted lion-head posture that underscores its rugged power. Five exterior colour options are available.

From the side, the profile retains classic off-road styling cues, with black wheel rims, flared wheel arches, and roof rails, delivering a distinctly athletic stance. The roof is fitted with Huawei's latest dual-view optical-path image-grade LiDAR, a core hardware component of the Qiankun ADS 5 system. The rear maintains the traditional hardtop SUV design with an externally mounted spare tyre. The tailgate uses a side-hinged configuration, while the distinctive cross-shaped taillights provide excellent visibility when illuminated.

The cabin retains a proven, user-friendly layout, featuring a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch central infotainment display, and a W-HUD head-up display. Deeply integrated with Huawei's HarmonyOS, the system supports the Xiao Yi voice assistant, seamless smartphone-to-vehicle screen mirroring, and multi-screen linkage, delivering a fluid and versatile smart user experience.

Powertrain upgrades are a key highlight. The M817 now primarily uses a new 2.0-litre turbocharged plug-in hybrid powertrain. The dedicated hybrid engine achieves a thermal efficiency of 45.5%. Paired with a dual-motor setup, it offers two power calibrations: a maximum combined output of 598 kW or 715 kW, and peak combined torque of 1,175 Nm or 1,241 Nm. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is achieved in just 4.26 seconds.

Regarding range and efficiency, the M817 offers multiple CATL battery configurations. The high-spec variant is equipped with a 62.5 kWh ternary lithium-ion battery, delivering 301 km of CLTC pure-electric range, 1,450 km of total combined range, and a fuel consumption of just 7.99 L/100 km (WLTC) in depleted-battery mode. The alternative variant, featuring a 51.9 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, provides 215 km of pure-electric range, 1,365 km of total combined range, and 8.36 L/100 km fuel consumption (WLTC) in depleted-battery mode.

Built on an 800V high-voltage architecture, the vehicle supports 6C ultra-fast charging technology. The two battery options require only 9.6 minutes and 16.2 minutes respectively to charge from 30% to 80%, ensuring exceptional energy replenishment efficiency. The lineup also includes a 1.5T plug-in hybrid entry-level variant with a combined system output of 505 kW, a 0–100 km/h sprint time of 5.2 seconds, and a 31.7 kWh LFP battery offering 140 km of CLTC pure-electric range, catering to a wider range of budgets.
